sippy cup

what else can I try as I don't want her to be on a bottle forever?
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I just went cold turkey and threw out (well actually stored for next baby) all Wil's bottles. He transitioned to the sippy okay, but he still needs to have someone lean him back. He still doesn't get the whole gravity thing, so he sucks with it under his chin. I just think it takes practice. I say if your daughter is at least interested, then she will be okay ditching the bottle. Good luck! Have you tried using a straw? Wil loves using straws!
sunrosejenn replied: i've tried a straw and she just makes a mess and plays with it. she also likes to drink from a cup with no lid if you help her. but she looses her patience if she can't hold it herself. LOL so that doesn't last long. she also doesn't quite get the gravity thing.
Kaitlin'smom replied: maybe its the kind of cup, Kait refused to drink from ones with handles only ever played with them , so once I found one she would drink from I bought a few.
sunrosejenn replied: i'm planning on buying a new kind tonight on the way to pick her up. her old one (nuby) has no handles but will try one with handles (munchkin brand)
PrairieMom replied: I started Ben on the kind with handles, that had a soft plastic nub. I think it was easier for him to switch over to. But we also did the cold turkey thing. I packe daway all the bottles, and if he wanted a drink he had to use the sippy. It took a bit, but he got the hang of it!
kimberley replied: definitely try different cups. we cut the bottle cold turkey too but the boys were much older when they started and when they stopped. that was my mistake. they ebf for a year then had a bottle for a year . can you get the exact one her friend had?
PhiMuMommy replied: try a bug juice bottle.. it's shaped more like a bottle and has the sports lid you can push down to keep it from spilling.. my son loves then and they have taken over my cabinet..
sunrosejenn replied: thanks .... i ended up buying a munchkin brand for $2 per cup and got 2 of them and they have handles. the kind her playdate has the cup really is too big for her, Eliana's hands are too small for it. will try it this afternoon once i get home from work. we get off at 12noon today and don't come back til monday
My3LilMonkeys replied: If that doesn't work, Gerber makes one (Fun Grips I think?) kind of shaped like this:

The middle being skinny makes it easier for the little hands to hold. Madison can already hold one (not actually drink from it though) and she is only 6 months.
baileygirl replied: I agree~ Jenna would not use the ones I had saved from when Delaney used them. I just had to buy new ones~ that will probaly work.
sunrosejenn replied: I bought the munchkin kind with handles and she is doing better with this kind.
