lisar wrote: Okay after reading Steph's post I have a question.
We all know I do not believe in god. However I do believe in angels. Is that okay in most peoples eyes? I always like to believe that my Mom is my girls guardian angel. I tell them that she is and everything. For the record though both of my kids believe in god, Lexi who is ten now wants get baptized so we are letting her. My hubby is a huge believer and I do not get in the way of his beliefs.

I guess my question to you is: does it matter if it's ok in other people's eyes? Imo, all that really matters is that your beliefs are ok in yours.

my2monkeyboys replied: Well, I am not sure how you can believe in one thing without the other, but that's only because I see them as a combo deal, so to speak. LOL I am not sure why you would feel the need for it to be ok to anyone else... I know I believe what I believe, and others can like it or not. I respect that everyone else has their own beliefs and expect no less in return. So the question is, I think, why do you care if it's ok with us?
A&A'smommy replied: Girl I don't know why you are asking if that is ok. I can say that I don't know how you can believe in one without the other..or how you can believe in afterlife with God, or satan. I am with Steph it's kinda a two for one deal since they were created by God. Can I ask you a question without you getting offended and you don't have to answer and I'm not judging you, I'm curious. Why don't you believe in God?
PrairieMom replied: Ita
lisar replied: I dont believe mainly because I see everything in a scientific stand point. Also because, I do not see how if there is a god how he can put kids thru so much pain. I watched my cousin Casey at a young age be in so much pain from cancer, and I was about 12 (I think) when I was thinking and praying that if there was a god he would stop her pain. But he didnt, so I made my choice then. Also the fact that Raygen last year laying in a hospital bed, in extreme pain and there was nothing I could do to help her. I have heard the whole, well the Dr saved her and all and that god gave the dr the knowledge to save her, but that is where I see it again as scientific thing. Science saved her. Thats how I look at things. I know it offends alot of people which is why I generally do not talk about it. Especially on here. I have heard the whole the devil done it, but I dont believe in that either.
And dont worry it doesnt offend me, 99% of the people in my family dont believe either I am use to it. I could go on and on about why I dont believe but alot of my reasons offend most people and I dont want to start an argument on here.
lisar replied: Very True, but I guess I should have asked it in a different manner. Is it normal I guess is what I meant.
lisar replied: I believe in one thing but not the other because I believe there is some form of after life, I just dont believe in god. Its hard for me to explain it sometimes.
stella6979 replied: I know exactly what you're saying as I feel the same way.
msoulz replied: I believe in "to each his own", adding "as long as it harms no others". I think it is fantastic that you respect your husband and kids' beliefs and do not look down upon them for differing from your own. If we could all be that way I think we would have a much more peaceful existence.
my2monkeyboys replied: Amen, Mary!!! And I *kind of* think I know what you mean, Lisa.... but now I'm curious! LOL Do you believe there is a dark side as well as angels? Do you think there is a good place and a bad place, as far as the afterlife is concerned?
lisar replied: No I dont!
my2monkeyboys replied: Oh ok. I am not meaning to offend you, I am just curious, that's all. I love to learn about what others think and believe, and why. You say you do believe in an afterlife, so what do you think it is like? Obviously I believe in a heaven and a hell, though I probably don't think exactly the same way most Christians do about the details. Lol
A&A'smommy replied: just my two cents because I love you
Sin is the reason we have pain, disease, murder, crazy people ect... the earth started out holy, beautiful and clean then satan tempted Eve when she was told not to eat of the fruit from the tree of knowledge. Just the way a lie can start out small and seem so harmless and then turn into something ugly and big thats the way sin changed the world. So basicly its not from God it from humans, yes God allows it but if you believe in God and have a personal relationship with him. You will spend eternity with him in Heaven in pure beauty, peace there will be no more suffering, no more tears, no more pain. When you are going through something so awful if you allow him to hold you up you will come out on the other in stronger, stronger than you could ever imagine. I can understand anger, bitterness but I promise God doesn't mind if you get mad at him, he is bigger than anger. He wants us to choose him, in the midst of everything bad in the world he wants us to give up ourselves and follow him. The bible says that He will wipe the tears from our eyes and take away all pain and suffering because the old earth will have passed away.
I SOO hope this makes sense my brain quit functioning properly a couple of hours ago.
lisar replied: I believe in angels! I believe that someone who done good in thier life will come back to be an angel. However I do feel that someone that did alot of bad in life their soul will die with them, so there is no after life for them. KWIM?
luvbug00 replied: lisa I have yet to place a label on what I believe. I do however also tend to lean toward the way you think more often then not. in my case it is more out of bitterness, I have yet to not feel totally pooped on by God. I have yet to find ONE good reason to lean toward any religion that leads me to believe there is a higher being that is good. so i get where your coming from
Hillbilly Housewife replied: You can believe in whatever the heck you like... heck I still believe in the Bogeyman.
msoulz replied: IMHO religion and God can be mutually exclusive. Religion is man-made. That's why there are so many of them. JMHO!!
Now I can't speak for the Boogey-man!
Boo&BugsMom replied: This pretty much sums it up for me.
Sin entered the world because humans (Adam and Eve) screwed it all up. It wasn't God's fault...He created us in His image to be like Him...perfect and holy. Sickness and everything else came forth from our sins. Heaven is basically like our second chance at making a perfect Earth.
The difference between Christ and other religions to me, is truth. The truth (the Bible, which talks endlessly about false prophets), IMO, is that we will go one of two places when we die and it's up to us to choose which way we want to go. I choose Him, not just because I want to, but because of what He did for me on the cross so I could be forgiven. We don't get to heaven by being good people or doing good deads, we get there simply for believing in Him and what He did for us. I still sin, and sin some more...we all do. We ALL fall short of the glory of God because of our sins (all which are equal)...that is why we need Christ, because believing in Him is how we enter into our enteral salvation (heaven). It is truth, IMO...whether or not someone chooses to believe is their will...God gives us that will to choose.
God doesn't just come from 'the sky' or miraculously heal people because He wants us to believe in Him in our hearts, not our eyes.
Anyways...that's the best way I can explain it.
As far as other people not believing...I pray for those people, and I still love them for who they are because God loves them regardless as well.
A&A'smommy replied: And He is amazing, KNOWING him I see Him and his works daily!! I pray for them too... I pray for you Lisa because we love you!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Reminds me of the Jars of Clay song..."They Will Know We Are Christians By Our Love".
Danalana replied: You know that I believe in God and, of course, angels. I'm not offended that you don't believe. The truth is that this world can be very painful because of its nature. I think the verse that says "it rains upon the just and the unjust" says it well. Even as a believer, it's easy to look around at all the sad things and wonder why. But I know an easy time was never promised. Heck, we just celebrated Christmas...Jesus didn't even have anywhere nice to be born. He was lying in a cattle trough--born in a barn. I can SO feel you on the human suffering part. The thing I have learned is that Jesus was no stranger to suffering. I believe God mourns right along with us when hard things happen. ANYWAY, I didn't mean to write a sermon. Just basically wanted to say that I wasn't offended and that I think it's really nice that you allow your girls (and husband) to believe what you don't. As far as your original question, it's hard for me to separate God and angels, since my faith teaches that God created them. But I know there are others out there who believe the same thing you do.
