speeding tickets....
cameragirl21 wrote: Is it just me or are there speed traps and cops everywhere these days? I know they're especially vicious in Florida, largely because we have no state tax here and this is how we make up the money. In the last 8 months, I've been stopped 4 times and drove right into a speed trap all 4 times and all but one were in the city, not on the highway. Today I got another ticket, grrrr. 200 bucks, grrrrr. Out of 4 times stopped, I managed to talk my way out of a ticket twice...the first time because I was rushing my cat to the hospital, she was really sick and the cop just let me go (but not without a lecture about how unsafe my driving was first) and the second time, lol, I was on my way to Orlando and as soon as I got off the turnpike, avoiding countless cops and speed traps, literally, not 30 seconds off the turnpike, bam, speed trap and there was not one, not two, but three state trooper cop cars tag teaming. Still not sure how I got out of that one but that cop was actually pretty funny...he walked over to my car and I start gushing about how sorry I am and how I'll never do it again, etc and he just gives me a stone smile and says, "your license and registration, miss?". And lol, I had a guy friend with me, in the passenger seat who wanted to change his clothes and chooses that moment to take off his pants! I nearly died, I was like, "what are you doing? If the cop sees you half naked he's going to think we're doing something weird, on top of my speeding!" And he just said that if the cop comes back (he took my license and registration back to his cop car) just to tell him and he'll put his clothes back on. Anyway, the cop comes back and my buddy, who hadn't said a word the entire time the cop stopped me suddenly found his voice...the cop asked, "will I ever catch you speeding in Orlando again?" And while I'm saying, "oh, no no no, never" My guy friend suddenly says, "no, no, she won't". Today, the cop didn't care to hear anything I had to say, there goes another 200 bucks and a fun filled four hours at traffic school. Anyone else finding the cops unusually active?
My3LilMonkeys replied: They have been everywhere in our area all week, and with DUI checkpoints - but that's normal for here with the holiday being tomorrow. They're always out really heavy for a week before and the weekend after Memorial day, Labor day, and the 4th of July.
luvmykids replied: They've been EVERYWHERE lately, even on the rural roads We haven't had a particularly bad year for accidents so I'm not sure whats got them all revved up.
Teesa®© replied: We've never gotten speeding tickets, so I don't know how bad they are.
Even if our children aren't in our car, chances are pretty high that there's children in the next car. We just don't speed. It's just not worth it.
mckayleesmom replied: Since my lead foot landed me in jail once...I don't ever speed.
Cece00 replied: We have speed VANS here. And red lights that catch ppl who run red lights and speeders.
I havent gotten a ticket from them yet. Hopefully I wont, I generally do not speed.
And, if you dont speed, you cant get a speeding ticket

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I got one speeding ticket years ago, and that was enough for me! We can't afford to speed anyways.. we get better gas mileage going 55. A speeding ticket would not be something we could afford either right now. And like Teesa it's not worth the danger, especially when the kids are in the car.
stella6979 replied: I absolutely agree!
Calimama replied: As do I. I'm glad the cops are out in droves and I wish they'd catch every single speeder, all the people that run lights/stop signs, that are driving drunk.. etc. There's NOWHERE that possibly killing someone.. is worth speeding too IMO.
A&A'smommy replied: oh yes they are AWFUL here but luckily the place I normally go I know all the hiding places and city cops well about half of them we are friends with and the one time I got pulled over well he tortured me and then let me go they LOVE to pull Jeremiah over jst to talk to him
moped replied: I agree 100%
holley79 replied: Well considering I work for the Sheriff's Office we DO NOT make our money off of tickets. The county and the state make their money off our tickets and we are lucky if we see this money. Largely our departments are ran off grants and the biggest one right now is the aggressive driver grant. This being the cause of the "speed traps" as you called them. This is a federal grant and has nothing to do with the state. For you to have a $200.00 ticket you had to be doing well over the alloted 5 miles over the speed limit!
One minute we are getting calls about speeders then those who get the tickets complain about us being too active. It's a catch 22!
Teesa®© replied: Offer him Gummy Worms... apparently the police really like those
TANNER'S MOM replied: Well here they said that the gas prices where making them go over budget, so they were doing more speed trip, and radaring then driving around. I guess it's all due to oil!
holley79 replied: What a lot of people don't realize if a Sheriff or Police Chief goes over his budget for the year then it is a third degree felony in the state of FL. When the budget was given to us last year in Oct gas was still down and now it has doubled which is putting a HUGE crunch on money.
gr33n3y3z replied: Yes the NJ State Troopers are VERY active since the bad accident last year I think it was with one of the guys in the fire dept. 2 girls were killed by a Trooper
sorry but I figured you would have learned by now and just think how much gas you will save if you do the speed limit
