Boys r us replied: WEll, who knows what is true..but I've been doing some research on this today and from what I can find, it's the people who are causing a lot of the problem. With rumors abound about running out of gas supplies..people are packing in at the pumps and the stations who are running out of gas are the stations that sold astonomical amounts for instance, one store in Ga sold $4,000 gallons in under 2 hours b/c of these rumors. So yes, now he IS out of gas. But not because there is a shortage, but b/c of the mass attack on his station from rumors.

I haven't filled up since Monday. I will in the morning. But we have fell pray to them. On Monday we knew it was going to get out of hand.. so everyone rushed and got gas then... the next day or so up .50 cents a gallon.. Scared again .. We all rush to fill up...
And now shortages.. we will rush and fill up..
It is human nature to want to fill up.. and when I get gas.. I will FILL IT UP.. but we just feed the OIL industry.. and they win the war this way.

Yes, people are freaking out, buying more so the price skyrockets. Hopefully within a couple of weeks this will have evened out a bit.

DH sent me this email
"Onshore, wholesale gasoline suppliers have begun capping the amount of fuel they sell to retailers in certain markets to make sure retailers do not take delivery of more fuel than they actually need. Analysts said they do not anticipate widespread fuel shortages and cautioned motorists not to top off tanks out of fear.

So that seems to be the reason why gas stations are running out of fuel. I hear talks around where I live that the gas stations aren't filling up their tanks after then run out because they are being told they are being capped.

3_call_me_mama replied: A station near us does 5 cents off on thursday, and Typically they don't raise the price until fridasy mornign so that you get a DECENT savings over the guy across the street. Well todasy (I shoudl have taken a picture) Mobil was $3.07 for low grade and the Sunaco was $2.79 (then 5 cents off) so $2.74a gallon for low grade!  So $.33 cheaper per gallon jsut acros the street. Unfortunately Sunaco ran out of gas They hada delivery at 12:00 noon, and I went at 9 pm to fill up (i know should have went sooner but it was 1 1/2 hour wait  SO i went tonight after I finished work. adn ALL they had left was PREMIUM but that was still only $2.94 (after the 5 cents off) versus $3.45 across the street for the same grade. I was talking to the attendant adn she said that peopel had been bringing in HUGH oildrum type tanks and charging $500-$600 of gas to their credit cards and fillling those tanks. Not necessarily cause they were worried abotu running out of oil, but because the price was so cheap compared to what it's likely to be for a while:( So because these people have the ability to rack up a hugh credit card bill and get all that gas, the rest of us suffer, adn they run out of gas and we HAVE to buy premium and pay more to fill up. The store started telling customers that there was a $400 limit to the gas they could charge in one day. Can you imagine $400 in one day for GAS:( I'll start biking or walking or staying home:(
