tax refunds

Figured out why we're getting such a big one .... our horse farm showed a big loss this year (thank you Mr. Accountant!) so actually we're not even breaking even. But I'm still not complaining!

fashionmumofboys replied: We usually do ours between now and April. Our deadline here in Canada is April 30. I usually wait towards the middle of April to do mine since I already know that there will be no refund for me.

We just gave our tax stuff to an accountant yesterday, but I know that we will be paying in for the first time. Whenever they tell us just how much we have to pay in, we will be lieing on the floor since I know we will fall out of our chairs anyways.

We didn't truly lose a lot, it just looks like it after depreciation and deductions and all that. Plus this year (or last year I guess) we had a lot of babies and not many actually racing, which is where the income normally comes from. It's a tricky business anyway, you spend a lot of money training, feeding, etc. and then just hope you get lucky I guess! Actually a pretty foolish business but we have been lucky, it's really just glorified gambling. Except that we breed and sell too.

MamaJAM replied: We were happy (and a bit surprised) to be getting any type of refund this year.....actually - to have more in our pockets - DH changed his paycheck info back in July (after figuring out what he'd owe for the year) and we haven't been paying much in taxes since. It helped to be getting a little since DH went back into buisness for himself Jan 1 and won't see a check from his biggest client until the end of Feb. We filed early Jan and already got the refund (and used it to pay some bills).

ammommy replied: I'm filing tomorrow, but a friend filed a right at the end of January and has her $$$. She did direct deposit.

Insanemomof3 replied: We filed right away and got it last Friday. But it is gone. James wanted to get lenses for his camera. He spent $3100 on them!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: We filed as soon as Dh got his W-2's. (his stupid work waits as long as they legally can to give them out. ) We got our federal refund last week because we e-filed, but we mailed in our state forms so it will take a bit longer to get that one. We got a little over $2000 from federal (thankyou Andrew! ) and $500 from state -- we bought a cheap crib because the second hand one we had is falling apart and the rest is going to pay off my dead car. Next year I'm hoping we can actually have some fun with our refund!

3_call_me_mama replied: We filed on Sunday Feb 5th (Turbo Tax online) and got our state refund check Thurdays Feb 10th. Still waiting ot hear on federal It was filed same night we got notice that they accepted it but we are just waiting fo rhte check now >

mom21kid2dogs replied: We did e-file on 2-5-06. We have the state back but are waiting on the Federal. Likely it will come today or tomorrow!

coasterqueen replied: Dh filed ours, not sure when. I just remember, maybe it was last week signing my John Hancock on it as I raced out the door. I honestly don't know if we had to pay or what. We've almost always had to pay so I'm sure this year is no different.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yep, we filed. If you e-filed, it will always be deposited in your account on a Friday. We get ours this Friday.

mckayleesmom replied: We got ours done on January 22nd and its gone already...we had alot of stuff we needed to get...We got a new bed set and comforter, Mckaylee got a new bed and comforter. Paid off some bills...etc.

Mom2BNTN replied: My DH and I e-file using Taxact.com and we already have our refund back. We had it direct deposited which seems to be quicker to us.
