the babysitter - is great!!
Schnoogly wrote: She lives in a nice house and has 40 years of babysitting experience! She kept saying how beautiful he is and said she never ever leaves babies for a minute. She said babies are her favorite also and that he would bring her "much happiness." She also said she is very very patient. She'll need it!!
The only problem is the car ride. On the way home he got himself so worked up that he barfed all over the place when we were almost home. I had to stop a few blocks from home and clean him up. I actually drove the last couple of blocks with him on my lap since I couldn't put him back in that barfy seat and was worried he might choke on it if he barfed again. I know how stupid that was, but I just thought it was a few blocks and he was so upset. When can I turn that seat around again? I doubt it will even help. He just can't go that long without being held
kit_kats_mom replied: Yay on the sitter! Score big for you!
Sheesh, he is a handful isn't he? K has usually been a pretty good car baby so I don't have any tips except for singing their favorite songs & maybe a favorite cd...I'm sure youve probably already tried all of that though. . We play the animal sounds game now and that usually stops any fussing.
Kaitlin'smom replied: at least 20lbs and 1 year is what I have been told..........how much doe she weight?
good news about the sitter, sorry about the car ride though, I hate when they get upset and you really cant see them to comfort them.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'm glad you found someone credible to keep him. She sounds great! I'm sorry about the drive you will have to make. That would be rough. Are there any toys to keep him pre occupied? Maybe you could talk her into letting him nap earlier so he will be tired on the way home. Most babies are fussy around 5 p.m. (if that is what time you will be driving).
I hope it works out and is only a one time thing that he did that.
ediep replied: yay on the sitter!!
Yikes on the barf
I wish I had a solution on the car ride.....only thing I can think of is hopefully he will get used to it after a while
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm so glad that the babysitter is great! Sending many hugs for you and Iain! I hope things get better for you and that he outgrows this phase soon!
A&A'smommy replied: congrats on finding a good babysitter sorry about the car ride though!!!
aspenblue1 replied: Congrats on the babysitter!! Sorry for the car ride. Have you tried the toys you pur on the carseat to maybe keep him entertained. Isabella has always loved riding in the car so I really don't have any tips. Or maybe stop 1/2 way through and get him out for a little bit may help.
DansMom replied: That sitter sounds wonderful! I hope that Iain gets used to the car ride if you do it every day. My nephew barfed whenever he got himself upset and worked up. He's five now and doesn't do it anymore, although he will STILL say he has a tummyache when things aren't going his way.
amynicole21 replied: So glad you found such a great sitter!!
Sophia used to get herself really worked up in the car. In fact, she still does it about 1 in 5 times, even though the seat is turned around. Sometimes I have to drive with one arm in the backseat holding her hand... probably not the safest way to drive, but it quiets her right down. I hope he gets over it soon
Schnoogly replied: Well I normally just try to drive like a bat to get home as fast as possible. He is OK if he is sleepy then he usually falls asleep. But we drove there and back which was a lot of time in the car and I did a lot of animal noises and peek a boo (I can see him over my shoulder when I turn around) in traffic, which kept him OK for about 20 minutes. The last 15 were murder though!! He has only barfed once before when he got upset--usually I don't let him get that upset. It was just scary because he wasn't breathing and I was afraid he was choking on it since he was lying back in the seat!
Also he weighs almost 20 lbs, about 19.5 I'd guess since he was 19 several weeks ago at his dr. appt. If he doesn't get used to it I might consider turning the seat around early since choking on barf is just as unsafe!!
kit_kats_mom replied: yeah, I would have to say that turning him around is probably safer than having him in your lap. Poor mommy, I'm sure you were scared.
jcc64 replied: Corey's a psycho in the car too! She's not a puker, but the other kids and I often feel like puking after listening to her scream full throttle in the car. I like Amy, ride with one hand contorted to enable hand holding with her. She's so puny, I think she'll be rear-facing till she's 16! Glad the sitter is working out. What a relief, right?
chloe&tysmommy replied: So happy to hear you found a great sitter but sorry about the car ride home If he's just about 20 lbs I think I would turn him forward-facing and see how he does...if he'll be a better boy this way, you won't have to get stressed out while driving
MommyToAshley replied: Congrats on the baby sitter! YEAH!!! I have heard good babysitters are hard to find, it sounds like you lucked out.
I am sorry Iain gives you such a hard time in the car. Turning the seat around might help. You might want to check your state laws... ours specifically says 1 year and 20 lbs. But, I have to agree that turning the seat around would be much safer than having him on your lap. Does he have a favorite song or type of music? Ashley loved reggae when she was smaller, LOL. So we made a CD of the song "Underneath It All" by No Doubt and it would calm her every time. Or maybe one of those soothing CD's that sound like the ocean might calm him? I hope you find a way to make the car ride a little easier until he outgrows this stage.
Here's some extra hugs -- you deserve them!!!
