to what temp do you heat your home?
cameragirl21 wrote: ok, so it is 48 degrees here now, brrrr, and it's only 68 in my house. For me that's cold as I rarely turn my AC below 75 degrees and even that is usually too cold for me. I am thinking of turning on the heat but wonder if I'm being ridiculous. To those who heat their homes, what do you heat it to? Would you turn on the heat if it were already 68 degrees inside? When I was staying in Philly, I had the room's thermostat turned up to 75-80 degrees but figured I was paying for the room so I can heat it to whatever I want. Now that I have to pay the bill for this heat, just wondering if it even makes sense...?
PrairieMom replied: 68 in the winter. BUT My house faces south and with the sun today My heater didn't kick one once! it stayed 70 the entire day. In the summer I rarely use my AC, I think it kicks on at 80, but it is usually 85-ish.
PrairieMom replied: Put on a sweater.
redchief replied: We keep the house at 67 in the winter. We're in the middle of renovations and until today most of the insulation was removed for utility installation, so with the cold weather we've been having we haven't even been able to keep it up to that.
MommyToAshley replied: We keep it 68 year round -- winter and summer. Our bill is usually higher in the summer (AC) than it is in the winter. It's normally very comfortable. (Except the other day when I couldn't get warm, I cranked the heat up past 70) We have electric heat so it is very dry and seems warmer than other types of heat to me.
luvmykids replied: I try to keep it below 70, in the high 60's, but sometimes I get chilled like Dee Dee....tonight after DH went to bed I cranked it up to 75 I'd already put my robe on over my jammies and my warmest socks and couldn't fall asleep (still can't) because I'm cold
mom21kid2dogs replied: 70 degrees in the winter 72-73 in the summer (A/C)
Our Lil' Family replied: 68 here, 70 if I feel a chill, just until I'm warm. Summers we keep it at 76 daytime and 74 nighttime.
DillsMommy replied: Between 70-72. I hate to be cold.
5littleladies replied: We keep ours at 68 during the day, and no more than 65 at night.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: At our house we kept it at 68 round the clock in the winter, unless I was just feeling really cold during the day then I'd turn it up to 69 or 70 sometimes.
Here at my mom and dad's house they keep it at 70 all the time.
lisar replied: 80 year round. I hate to be cold.
cameragirl21 replied: ah, Lisa, you are a kindred spirit...I thought I was the only person here in the Sunshine state that keeps her AC at 78-80 degrees, lol.
MoonMama replied: Heat - 75 I HATE being cold. A/C - 73
lovemy2 replied: Heat 68 during the day and 66 at nite - A/C usually 75 - sometimes we turn it up a little to cool off upstairs before we go to bed - even though we have central A/C it still stays warmer upstairs....
Danalana replied: In the winter, we keep it at around 73. That's mostly because Kade's room is the coldest room in the house. I'm not sure what we do in the winter...
My3LilMonkeys replied: I keep the hear around 66, DH keeps it around 72 so it goes back and forth all winter long.
I keep the AC around 76-80 depending on the outside temp, DH likes it closer to 70 so that goes back and forth all summer long.
I am all about keeping the bills low and DH...isn't.
Nina J replied: Well, we do not have central heating. We just have reverse cycle air conditioner, no heaters in the bedrooms. It never get cold enough in the bedrooms.
Although where I am from, 50 degree's celcius is considered very cold. That is considered a cold winters day, lol. We would have the heaters on.
68 fahrenheit is still not very warm. I don't know, you must not feel the cold in the Northern hemisphere, lol. But I remember last year it went down to 5 celcius (41 fahrenheit) or something, and we were all so cold. In winter the day time temps are usually around 10 - 15 degree's celcius and overnight it goes to about 5 celcius. The lowest state temp in winter is usually -1 celcius (30 F).
In winter, we don't have the heater on every day. But when it is cold enough for it (a.k.a when it is 50 degree's F), we have the heater to between 28 - 30 degree's celcius (82 - 86 Fahrenheit).
My2Beauties replied: LOL I am so cold natured, so in the winter time the heat stays on 75, we have a digital thingy and it always moves back to 72 (it must be programmed or something) so I'm constantly checking it to make sure it's on 75, I even get up in the middle of the night to turn it up In the summer I freeze if it's even on 70, I am such a cold person, so when DH is at home he puts it on 70 but when he's gone I turn it to 72 so the AC doesn't come on as much, I can withstand very hot hot temperatures, I am so cold natured. I go outside sometimes when the AC is on in the summer just to get warm It could be 99 degrees outside with a heat index of 110 and I will sit out on the deck for long periods of time because my house is too cold! I'm weird I know
jcc64 replied: OMG, I would die at most of your houses. I can't deal with being too warm, it makes me woozy. I think that's b/c my mom used to keep our house on 58 degrees in the dead of winter. When I visit her, I usually leave my coat on in the house. Here, we rarely go above 62, if it was much higher, we'd be spending a ridiculous amount of $$$, and most of it would be going right out the windows of our 100+ yr old house.
msoulz replied: As much as I would love 75 degrees, DH would suffocate and/or melt and I would probably have a heart attack when the gas bill arrived. This year we have kept the temp at 65 degrees the whole winter. We used to hover between 68 and 70 but it's a cost saving thing - we wear more sweaters.
