update on my mom

She's feeling much better. The perscription pain meds were really causing a lot of her crumminess. Now that she's off of them, she's doing well.
She has her first round of chemo scheduled for next Wednesday which her dr has warned her will leave her feeling "flu like and rundown" for a few days afterwards. Then she will have a three week break before her next round. During the break, we expect her to be in our area getting a second opinion at Moffit here in Tampa. She wanted to go to RA Anderson but her insurance won't pay for that hospital.
We are all just trying to stay positive and focused on the way she feels rather than how much time she may or may not have left. Dwelling on the what if's is just the kind of thing that is completely against her grain. I'm doing my best to honor her by focusing on the positives at this time.

When my gma developed ovarian cancer, it went undetected until it was too late. It spread to the same area where your mother has her cancer. Very very tough. I am so sorry.
I will keep her in my prayers.

I've been following your Mom's website as I have been thinking of you and your Mom. I know I've said it before, but your Mom is amazing. She has a smile in every picture and it's not one of those fake smiles for the camera either. I am sure it helped having you and the girls around.
I'm glad you are focusing on the positive and that's important to your Mom. But, if you ever need to talk and just have someone listen, I'll be here for you any time.

jcc64 replied: Big hugs, girl ! Ita that focusing on the "what ifs and how longs" is not going to do anyone any good. My mom and dad just tried to take one day at a time, and most importantly, not to live from dr's visits to dr's visits. Your mom was and still is much more than a cancer patient, and she more than anyone, needs to feel a connection to her life pre-diagnosis. Plan little outings or things that she can look forward to when she's feeling up to it. It's no picnic, but walking this road with your mom will be one of if not THE most meaningful thing you will ever do in your life. I'm a completely different person than I was before my dad's illness and death, and I can honestly say, I treasure that time because it really gave me alot of clarity about my relationship with my dad while he was still here. I made peace with any remainging demons from childhood (and there were plenty), and when he went, we were much closer than had he never gotten sick. Not everyone gets that opportunity, Cary, take advantage of it. I know you will, and I promise you, there are still many good times ahead for both of you. They just might not be the same kind of good times. You can do this!

I hope chemo goes smoothly for your mom. My mom had breast cancer back in 2002 and she had the worst time with chemo. She had really big doses, though...but anyway, every time she got chemo, it made her feel so bad for 3 weeks that she swore she would not go back for another round...then she felt OK for about a week & would talk herself into going for the next round. She is sooooo strong & doesnt give up on anything so it was really scary to see her like that, very unlike her character to want to back out of something.
But she made it through abotu 7 or 8 months of chemo & then radiation & she has been cancer free for about 5 years now.
Good luck to your mom & your family. All the best.
