kimberley wrote: well my car is officially junk! the differential in the tranny is cracked so that is pooched. will cost anywhere from $2700-$5000 to rebuild or replace the tranny. car isn't even worth that much and i still have yrs of payments left on it . gonna see if there is some way to sell the hunk of crap and pay off as much of the financing as possible... so i guess we will be carless for a while. Calgon.. take me away!
lisar replied: I am so sorry. I have been there before. You will get it all worked out.

Kaitlin'smom replied: that sucks, sould like a similar thing my sitter is going through her van is junk and she owes sooo much on it.
hope you can sell it and get the loan payed off
MommyToAshley replied: I am sorry, you just don't need this on top of everything else.
On a side note, when I had an accident a few years ago, my car was totalled. I hand uninsured motorist but not under-insured motorist. To make a long story short, I got about half of what my car was worth from the insurance company. They had towed my car, and I was told that I could go pick up my items from the car. I asked what was going to happen to my car and they told me that it would be auctioned off for parts. I asked who usually gets this money, and I was informed the insurance company. Well, I made a few calls and insisted that I get the money from the auction since I wasn't fully reimbursed for my car. I ended up getting another $1500 from it. (Mostly from the engine of the car). Most people probably don't know what happens to their car after an accident like that and the insurance company is making money this way. So.... maybe you can contact one of these acution places and at least get something out of your car. Just a thought.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Sorry to hear that. Hope everything works out!!
MommyToAshley replied: Just another thought, I don't know if any dealers in Canada have this but some places will give you money on a trade-in even if the car isn't working. I see deals all the time where they give you trade-in of $2000 for anything you can drive, drag or pull into the dealer. Maybe you could pay off the old car and get a new one at the same time without raising the cost of your monthly payment.
I hope you can work something out.
kimberley replied: ya i am going to see about a trade-in but i doubt i'll get much unless i fix the tranny. it is not driveable. and there is no way i can afford to double our car payments right now. i will do the auction thing as a last resort tho. it just seems like such a waste. Dh is trying to get a loan so if it is enough, we may be able to pay off the car and have a down for a new one. fingers crossed. he should know by friday.
luvbug00 replied: oh that stinks!!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I am so sorry that you are dealing with this! Car problems are sooooo irritating! Our trans went out a few years ago and it was about a 3,000 dollar repair. Do you know someone who could fix it if you went to one of those pick and pull places? We have some kind of big transmission so we couldn't find one but maybe you would have better luck! I hope it works out!
A&A'smommy replied: awww hun I'm sorry that sucks!!!! ((((HUGS))) I hope you can sell it and pay it off!!
b&bsmom replied: Sending good thought your way and hope it all works out. Hate when we have to deal with that stuff it never comes at a good time. Good luck and keep us posted if you can. ((((Hugs)))))
mummy2girls replied: where i am i got to trade my peice of crap car that was dented in the front and back and did not run at all. The transmission was shot on it and the transmission oil leaks... And they towed it in for me and gave me 2000 towards a down payment for the car i have now:)
I hope kimberely it works out for you! I know the pain of car troubles:(
Sirax replied: May not help much, I don't know where you live, but if you are anywhere close to NE Oregon I may be able to help with the transmission problem. I am an ASE Master Certified Tech.
kimberley replied: i drive an uncommon model saturn (SL2 - 10yr anniv edition ) so finding wrecker parts would be like finding a needle in a haystack the trade in just doesn't look like it will work because the outstanding financing on the car is more than what the car is worth. our dealerships here are cheap too i only got $500 trade in value on my taurus when i got the saturn.
you are a dear for offering and i wish i could take you up on it, but i am in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and my car won't make it there . i am amazed by the genorisity of our members here. thank you!
