weight gain question

DillsMommy wrote: After reading Dana's post about following a diet, it got me thinking. Was it hard for you to lose the weight after giving birth? And if you've had more than one child, was it harder the 2nd, 3rd, etc... time? It took me about a year to lose the weight the first time, but I also gained a whopping 60 lbs. wacko.gif I'm trying not to do that again (so far so good) but I've always heard it's MUCH harder to lose it the next time. So I'm kinda worried.

Boo&BugsMom replied: My experience was this...I gained only 30 pounds with Tanner. I thought that was very little until a friend of mine said she only gained 17 with her first! wacko.gif Anyways....I lost it right away. Within the first two months I looked just like I did before I was pregnant. With the second, I gained 60. About the size of a large adult dog! laugh.gif It has been 2 months now and I still have about 15 more pounds to go. If it matters though, I ate really healthy with my first and did not with my second at all. I'm not having a hard time losing it persay, but it is just taking a lot longer than I had hoped.

Don't know if that helps, but that was what I experienced.

indywndy_04 replied: I think it depends on your lifestyle of activity. In saying that, this is what I mean...with my first...I was married to someone that was not very active so it kind of made me not so active. Then we had a second, but I divorced him when she was about 4 months old....I started going out a lot and joined a gym and got more active so I lost the weight real quick. With my third, I did pretty much the same thing, went out a lot with my girlfriends, married to a very active husband so we were always on the go, even after having my 3rd child, I was wearing clothes that I could fit in High School and I was very skinny in High School.

So, I think it just depends on how active you are. With this one, I started out not so fit and I have a hard time getting motivated to work out, even before I was preggo. So, I am going to try to find it deep with me to get out and work out as much as I can and be more active.

I think I just peed my pants from laughing about the "large adult dog"! Oh that is CLASSIC!!!

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I gained about 30 with both girls and was able to lose that weight pretty quickly after each. It was probably the nursing for me. With Jade I lost the baby weight and then some.

Mommy2Isabella replied: I gained 60lbs with Isabella, and lost almost all of the weight by my 6 week. After 2 weeks I was back into regular clothes.

Though, I think other stuff comes into play. I was 19 when I had Bella, and am a picky eater/ healthy eater.

Calimama replied:
I agree. I gained 25lbs, the weight fell off and I didn't do anything extreme. Same story here, I had just turned 19 so that may have something to do with it.

Twelve Volt Man replied: A mere five weeks after giving birth to my son, my wife has returned to her slender, svelte self. Ever since we got home from the hospital, she's been doing a rigorous workout program that I put together for her. Every morning, she gets up and thoroughly cleans the house. She then jogs in place while she cooks breakfast, having it ready for me when I wake. After that, she does lunges and push-ups while waiting for the laundry to get done. While she folds it, she does sit-ups. A couple times per week, she jogs back and forth across the yard, dragging the lawn mower that is tied behind her. This has worked well for her, and I encourage others to try it.

Mommy2BAK replied:
tongue.gif YOU ARE BAD!!! rolleyes.gif rolling_smile.gif

CantWait replied: With Robbie I only gained about 18lbs, that being said I was quite young and didn't eat well, my metabolism changed after having him and I ended up losing it, but gaining about 20lbs after which really wasn't horrible considering I was sickly skinny before anyway.

With Anthony I gained about 20-25lbs pregnant, ate well, lots of salads etc....however I gained about 40lbs after having him, so no I definetly didn't lose the weight after. dry.gif

luvmykids replied:
OK I'm the old lady here laugh.gif I was 30 when I was pg with the twins, gained 75 pounds, and miraculously was back in my size 4 jeans within two weeks. Don't ask me how, I don't question it or it might come back LOL.

My second pg I was 32, gained 28 pounds, and was back to my normal clothes in about four weeks. So yes, it took longer, but still wasn't "long".

I'm sure nursing had something to do with it because I couldn't eat enough no matter how much I tried. But I also think my natural metabolism had something to do with it, and especially after Macie was here, I was chasing two active two year olds wacko.gif Since then I've gained a little weight but that was actually a good thing wink.gif

DillsMommy replied: Wow, it sounds like nobody really had any problems losing the weight after. That makes me feel better, all I've ever heard were horror stories.

Mommyof3 replied: What happened to me was when I was pregnant with my first, I gained 100lbs....but I was also really sick with that pregnancy. It took me over a year to lose most of the weight and I still hadn't lost it all when I got pregnant with my second. I only gained 30lbs. with that pregnancy total, and I lost it a little faster than the first pregnancy. With my last, I gained only 20lbs. and it all came off right after I had her.
So...to me, it gets better as you keep going, but that's just me! biggrin.gif

lovemy2 replied:
I mean this in the nicest way but YOU SUCK!!!! I gained a ton with Olivia and NEVER really lost it all - most but not all then gained alot of weight for no reason got pregnant and didn't gain too much with Dylan but am now on Weight Watchers to lose the before weight...I at least lost most - except about 10 lbs of the baby weight from him!!!

PrairieMom replied: I gained 75 with ben, and 60 with Al. It took me about 9 months to loose the weight with both of them. It took nearly a full year before I was in my old clothes. dry.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I gained 25 with Wil and about 30 with Wesley. I had an easier time losing the weight the second time actually. Maybe because I am busier with two. Or I started off thinner when PG with Wesley than with Wil. I guess it really depends on your overall health before you get PG, kwim? I was much more in shape when getting PG the second time so I think that made it easier to lose...Muscle helps burn fat.

Without sounding obnoxious, I really had no problem losing the weight after a few months. As you see it wasn't that much to lose anyway, but BF just really helped me take it off. I also eased back into my workout as soon as my doc gave me the go. Lots of water and healthy eating of course helps too. Cut out the sugar, although man do I crave sweets when nursing! wink.gif
