what are your eating idiosyncrasies?
cameragirl21 wrote: does anyone besides me having weird eating idiosyncrasies? ok, here are mine--since i'm trying to avoid white flour, i will eat hummus right out of the container. plain. with a fork or a spoon, just like that. same with mango salsa...last night i went to the gourmet grocery and they had mango salsa with cilantro which i ate as a salad, plain. of course, as i mentioned in another thread, i'm having some digestive probs and i sure did pay for that meal last night. but once i'm well i will eat it again, i loved it! also, sometimes i'll eat spinach/artichoke dip plain too, right out of the container. i also tend to crave a certain food and can eat it for every meal of the day for days, sometimes a week or longer...then i'll not want it for a very long time because i'll be sick of it. that's all i can think of for now but i'm sure there are more.
gr33n3y3z replied: since I had surgery and recoverd from it and quit smoking all at the sametime I gained weight and I mean lots of weight So I'm off to eating better and less this should be interesting oh yeah and exercising
Calimama replied: I can't stand to watch people drink the milk from cereal, other than that I eat pretty normal.
redchief replied: I don't really have any. I like to talk about others' eating idiosyncrasies though.
PrairieMom replied: I won't eat peeps or marshmallows unless they are stale. I like stale sandwich cookies too. I will buy a pack and open them and put them on top of the fridge for a few days before I eat them.
TheOaf66 replied: I eat Cheetos or Nachos with a fork cuz I don't like that cheese stuff stuck on my hands
redchief replied:
PrairieMom replied: how do you even do that?
TheOaf66 replied: just like an endloader would pick up dirt, go underneath and raise and balance
PrairieMom replied: like right out of the bag? your a freak. (J/K)
TheOaf66 replied: no I put them in a bowl or on a plate
Cece00 replied: I like to eat all the colors of a candy at once...for example, if I am eating skittles, I will eat all the greens, then all the purples, all the reds, etc.
I can not drink anything without it being in a cup FULL of ice, especially water...it is very very rare that I will drink like a coke from the can, unless there is no ice and no cups. But if there are cups & no ice, I will not drink it from a cup.
Thats all I can think of right now...
Calimama replied: Oh that reminded me of one! I can't drink out of a cup if it's been sitting there for awhile or outside. They get those outsidey-ish smell..
grapfruit replied: Ew! That gags me too!!!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Funny...I was just thinking of starting a similar thread. I will NOT buy sugary cereals ever, only healthy organic kind....BUT I always put sugar or maple sugar on the healthy cereal. Strange, I know. It is probably JUST as bad for me, but somehow it seems "okay" when I can put the sugar on myself. I also like to put salt on granny smith apples. Love the salty and sour taste.
I have a friend who won't anything from a bone. She isn't a vegetarian, just won't eat ribs or chicken legs. Which I'm the opposite, I prefer dark meat so I like the boned meat. Lamb, duck...just about anything except pork.
Hmmmm, what others? I have a thing about temperatures of food. If they are meant to be hot, they should be HOT. I can't stand when people lag to get to the dinner table after I place the food. Eat it while it's hot! If a food is meant to be cold, it should be really COLD. Fruit must be cold. Lunchmeat should be really cold. DH will eat things at any temperature. He can have a sandwich sitting in his car all day and still eat it. NO way for me.
ediep replied: these are funny
My DH has some wierd food issues, like he doesn't like to mix textures, for example if s crumb gets in mac and cheese, he'll gag. He also hates anything soggy, like salad dressing on a sub sandwich...makes the bread wet
now, for me....... try not to eat dairy becasue it hurts my stomach and stomach aches raise my anxiety level. I also can not drink soda from a can. I always have dessert, even if it is just a small fat free ice pop.
grapfruit replied: I also can't stand when people loudly lick/suck their fingers (like if they just ate a cheeto or something) Totally gags me. Chewing w/your mouth open. *shudder*
I can't think of anything I eat strangely. Or strange stuff I eat...I like buttered saltines w/chili, is that weird?
cameragirl21 replied: i am the same way...i eat dessert after every meal, i am trying to work on that as it's not good for the weight loss goals....
boyohboyohboy replied: oh this thread was made for me! i cant eat my food if its touching on my plate, and i eat one thing completely before eating the next. i have no idea why, just always have.
i like my drinks from the freezer with ice chips in it...even milk. but especially soda.
i wont eat meat if i have to touch it when its raw..so my husband usually makes it all up before work and i just dump it from a zipper bag onto what ever its cooking in without touching it...
i dont eat anything that has seeds or "pieces" to it..no strawberrys, or sesame seeds, or fruit that is stringy...
maybe its an ocd thing?
Insanemomof3 replied: OMG I eat crackers with mayo on them with my chili. LOL I know, I am strange.
luvmykids replied: I'm like Tara on the Peeps, the more stale the better.
I eat brownies just about everynight, even if I had dessert with dinner
If I'm eating sunflower seeds, I have to eat them eight at a time, four on each side of my mouth.
Can't drink from someone elses cup, can, etc.
Can't handle sogginess. I extra picky about things like stuffing, if it's the slightest bit soggy, forget it.
A&A'smommy replied: I will not eat anything off of a bone.. I LOVE chicken but if its on a bone GAG ME I wont touch it.. Jeremiah is the same way. I will eat IF someone peels it off for me and its white meat if its not white meat then NOPE wont touch it.. and I want it OFF of my plate or I can't eat anything
I really don't like beef or pork but I will eat a beef roast and bacon but VERY rarely I really should be thiner because I don't eat much junk food or meat.. or a lot of bread
I think thats it
sparkys2boys replied: Hmm, this is to funny!! I have a few of them. I have to put a bite of egg unto a peice of bread then eat it or I dont like it. If I make a sandwhich I make the mayo is right to the crust of every peice of bread..lol. And I love dill pickle sandwhiches, which grosses the heck outta poor DH..lol!! MMMMMM.. they are so yummy though!!
Calimama replied: Is that just pickles and bread? I've never heard of that!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Good thread.
Onions....I HATE THEM!!! I don't care for peppers (of any variety) either.
I normally eat all of one thing before I move on to the next and I always start w/the veggies.
I can never order anything off the menu "as is"...I always have to change it. Especially if it has onions in it.
I won't bite into anything with a bone (chicken, ribs, etc.) I have to pick it apart.
I don't like when my lips touch the spoon, fork.
I HATE watching other people eat. It grosses me out and I lose my appetite.
I don't like soggy bread, either.
Same here. Chilled asparagus soup....NO WAY!!!!
momofone replied: I will only eat the tops of bagels not the bottoms they taste better
momofone replied: I will only eat the tops of bagels not the bottoms they taste better
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Can't have butter or margarine in a sandwich. Makes me gag. But I love buttered bread.
I have to have an even number on my plate. Like if I have baby carrots, I HAVE to have two, four, six... even cut up meat - I have to cut it up in an even number of pieces. If dh yoinks a piece of whateer off my plate, he either has to take another one, or I have to cut another piece to make it even again.
Drives me nuts having to make salad. I am forever counting.
redplaydoh replied: I can't stand onions either... I can smell even the tiniest piece of onion on a wrapped hamburger, inside a bag when it's passed through to me from a drive thru window. I don't even have to check, I just hand the bag back and say I SAID NO ONIONS!!! It ticks me off when someone says "it has onions, but they're cooked and you can't even taste them".... so if YOU can't taste them, why bother putting them in there???
I've also been known to eat cheetos with a fork. I hate orange fingers...
The one that drove DH nuts was with Goober Grape Jam/Peanut Butter in a jar. You absolutely CANNOT mix the stripes inside the jar. You have to take a knife and seperately extract the jam stripe and the peanut butter without squishing them together.
I don't like butter and jam/jelly on toast. Either one seperately is fine.
I don't like chocolate mixed with any other flavors (except Reeses). Leave my chocolate alone, don't mix orange, raspberry etc. If I want chocoate, I want chocolate... not fruit flavored chocolate crap.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: EXACT same here!!!
Or if I order enchiladas and tell them no onions, but there happens to be ONE onion in the entire dish, I can taste it without having even gone near the onion.
sparkys2boys replied: well NOOOOO.. mayo spread all the ay to the edge too!! Its very yummy!! Trust me!
luvmykids replied: LOVE pickles, HATE mayo. Blech. I can't have mayo in or on anything except potato salad where it's disguised by mustard
Kentuckychick replied: my mom is the same way with the peeps... they have to make that stretchy poppy noise when you bite them... ick! lol
lovemy2 replied: So much for my theory that you are a true manly man....
lovemy2 replied: I have to have ice in my milk and I can't drink any milk except skim - can't stand how "thick" other milks seem - and ice cream can't be eaten alone - must have hot fudge or peanut butter and whip cream - the whole nine yards on it That was a pregnancy induced idyo....
Kentuckychick replied: hmm the more I sit here and think, the odder I seem... so I'll have to share some of my less insane ones.
- I cannot STAND when people stand there and eat chips (especially cheetos/doritoes) straight out of the bag... YUCK - Same with dipping straight into the container of dip... unless you're the only one eating it use a spoon and a plate! - I much prefer the soggy fries... the crispy hard ones can be tossed - I'm the same with nachos... fork please! - Store bought salsa must have cilantro added to it or it is no good - I cannot stand it when people scrap their plate with or bite their fork - My brother is guilty of this one... he bites his food... he doesn't chew he BITES. Like you can hear his teeth chomping together. First OUCH! Second EW!! - No sharing ever. You cannot have a bite of my food or a drink of my beverage and I will never ask for a bite or drink of yours. You will also never ever catch me eating after a child. ick.
I think that's about it.
My3LilMonkeys replied: You would hate to have dinner with me and my family....we share each other's food constantly, and someone always has to finish Brooke's dinner because she won't eat it all. DH and I share drinks constantly and if it's alcoholic, you can bet just about everyone will taste it.
I don't think I really have any idiosyncrasies when it comes to food unless you count my obsession with chocolate and my desire to put cheese on pretty much everything.
Kentuckychick replied: lol, I don't really have a problem with other people sharing with one another... I just can't do it.
Bamamom replied: Let's see...I taste everything on my plate and then eat from my least favorite to my favorite - saving the best for last.
I never drink tea with a straw. It must be iced and drank from a glass - never plastic.
Milk has to be in a glass - never plastic.
I don't like my foods to touch but I can tolerate it as long as they are not wet - like peas or lima beans. That juice has to be contained in a bowl. I don't want it contaminating my other food.
Can't stand soggy bread of any kind. Nothing worse than getting a burger that's soggy. YUCK!!!
That all I can think of for now
redchief replied: <--- Writing all of this stuff down in case he has the good fortune to meet these people in person and have some good, clean fun!
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Yes, Yes, Yes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Drives me nuts, too.
redplaydoh replied:
OMG!! I do the same thing!
hoosier momma replied: I absolutely cannot eat (or cook) any meat with a bone in it. It just creeps me out.
I have to pick all of the beans and meat out of chili, only leaving the sauce and spaghetti. I usually just don't eat it because it is such a hassle, but my hubby loves chili in the winter.
TheOaf66 replied: hey grease, blood, or whatever fine but that cheese junk is like concrete, it just doesn't come off and it has a weird texture...shame on you insulting my manhood
I am also one of those that eats all of one thing on my plate before moving on
hate onions and peppers
I put mayo on my hamburgers
Kaitlin'smom replied: I agree
gr33n3y3z replied: I wont eat the ends of Bananas
msoulz replied: HOORAY for the anti onion crowd! I am totally with you!!! And don't you love those "you can't even taste it" people??
I enjoy meat but I can not eat it off a bone. That's my idiosyncrasy.
TheOaf66 replied: I know, what a crock, obviously I can since I have determined I don't like them
redchief replied:
Anthony275 replied: i eat potatoes and kiwis with the skin on them. am i the only one here that does that?
PrairieMom replied: I can't eat Kiwi, they remind me of um... something... and I can't bring myself to even touch them. I also can't drink anything thick it makes me gag
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'm not a fan of kiwi skins, but I do eat raw potatoes unpeeled. I also don't peel my carrots or cucumbers.
Oh, I did think of one thing - I eat green peppers whole like most people would eat an apple. My coworkers all think I'm
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Me Too. The staler the better. I always get some odd looks when I say that. Also I don't like it when my foods touch on a plate and will eat one thing at a time. I usually leave my favorite for last.
Bamamom replied: Me neither!
Kentuckychick replied:
I don't typically eat them totally whole unless I don't have a knife... but I do love raw green peppers
*heading to the kitchen now...*
Mommy2BAK replied: hmm... let me see
-I can't watch anyone else eat, it grosses me out
-I can't eat or drink after anyone else
-I'm with some others about the bone in meat thing, I really don't know how to eat around a bone, so I just don't. (MIL made us pork chops tonight that still had the bone in and I was a little uncomfortable... I buy boneless everything)
-I'm a texture person, if a drink is really thick, I will often gag
msoulz replied: I'm a texture person too - not necessarily to thick things but other textures are disturbing to me.
Another - I will not eat Jello because FOOD SHOULD NOT MOVE!!!!
momofone replied: As soon as I find a hair in my food at a restaurant I'm grossed out from that point on.
grapfruit replied: This thread made me laugh. We're all so weird!!!
I like RAW onions, cooked? Forgetaboutit!!!! And I agree, if I said leave them off, leave them off!!! I always ask for no tomatoes (hate em) and get so mad when they don't take them off! And what's it w/fast food charging you for something extra (like cheese). If I asked for no tomato add cheese, shouldn't those cancel out??
I usually eat everything one at a time too, but I don't mind it touching...I hate milk (unless flavored), totally hate mayo and mustard. Ketchup I can tolorate, but only on fries (dipped of course).
Question to all you who can't have food touch: what do you do when you eat Chinese??? B/c it's so great mixed together!
PrairieMom replied: I don't eat rice with my chineese. I only eat the meat/sauce/vegi part. The rice is just a waste of tummy space.
