what to take for strep throat?

As previously suggested, gargling with warm salt water or Listerine should help but you really should see a doc. IMHO

i used mouthwash for like 2 minutes and that helped a bit besides the fact that it made me have an actual taste in my mouth
also, hooray for fever!! when i find out who made me sick, they're done!!! yay!

booey2 replied: Well the reason we suggested a doc visit is that if it is really strep it is caused by bacteria which can be killed using antibiotics.

Jackie012007 replied: ummm no! You need to get that taken care of with antibiotics because A) you are infecting the people around you and untreated strep throat can cause blood infections, kidney issues, scarlet fever, etc.

definitely not something to mess around with!

jcc64 replied: The ONLY way to know if you have strep throat is to do a throat culture, period. If you do, in fact, have it, you must take antibiotics. Untreated strep can lead to systemic infections, scarlet fever, or damage your heart. Not something to mess around with. But again, a bad sore throat is not necessarily the same thing is strep. Only way to know is to do the throat culture, which I would advice in your case. Feel better.

Anthony275 replied: of course ive been going to school sick, but taking robitussin made me so much better now. i am no longer coughing up blood and my coughing is reduced 3/4ths from yesterday

Anthony275 replied: nope, i wasnt going to go anyway because i dont need to pay $250 for somebody to tell me i have strep throat
i know i shouldnt had gone to school when i found out i was the only one in my classes who went everyday this week

Just an FYI~untreated strep WILL kill you. Two brothers in their 40's (otherwise healthy men) died a few years ago in our town. Cause of death~untreated strep throat.

It cannot cost $250 to visit the doctor, that is not possible. It does not cost me anything to visit with a doctor because we have financial troubles at the moment and can access schemes, but even when we are not having money trouble, it is only $50 for a visit. You should go to a different doctor or something. But definatly go, paying a little money is better than getting problems that last forever.

Why are you not concerned if you are coughing up blood? That is not a normal thing to be happening. And you should not be going to school and spreading your illness, that is very inconsiderate of other people. You are upset that someone has made you ill, yet you still go to school and expose others to your germs? Treat others how you wish to be treated, if you expose others to illness, you cannot complain or be angry when you become ill yourself from someone else's germs. Really, you just reap what you sow.

But yes, get seen by a doctor, it is not fun to be ill and you will get well a lot quicker. If you want to stay sick, don't go.
