when you buy packaged lettuce

cameragirl21 wrote: or mesclin or spinach or something similar that's already cut up, do you wash it? it says on the plastic that it's triple washed and ready to eat so i never wash it first but i'm so scrupulous about everything else, washing my fruits and veggies with a fruit wash to remove the chemicals that i'm wondering if i should be washing it.
what do you do?

sparkys2boys replied: I wash everything, no matter what. The thoughts of chemicals or bugs freak me out. Just what if the lettuce you are eaten got missed by the triple washing.. ewww.. I wouldn't take the chance.

grapfruit replied: I'll probably end up w/some crazy disease and die, but I just eat it. tongue.gif

stella6979 replied: I ALWAYS ALWAYS wash everything that can be washed.

gr33n3y3z replied: bag stuffed thats been washed no I dont
But fruits and veggies yes I do

I even wash the chicken bc of how nasty it is

Pork I give a quick rinse to

Twelve Volt Man replied: I use bagged lettuce from time to time, and I never wash it. I've seen stories on the news about the risk of e-coli in bagged salads, though. From what I understand, if the lettuce is washed again by me, it wouldn't necessarily get rid of the bacteria. I'll still continue to use them, though, as I feel like there are more serious things to worry about.

HuskerMom replied: I always wash fruit and stuff like that but honestly I never thought to wash lettuce. I probably will now though.

mom21kid2dogs replied: I never wash it. If I wanted to wash it, chop it, etc~I'd just buy it in it's natural state. One does run the risk of EColi, however, by not washing.

jem0622 replied: we don't typically wash it.

Calimama replied: I dont buy packaged lettuce. But if I did, I'd probably wash it myself. Somehow I doubt they triple washed it! dry.gif .

hoosier momma replied: I never wash it either.

jcc64 replied: After the spinach e coli thing this summer, I wash EVERYTHING.

MoonMama replied: I wash EVERYTHING too! cool.gif

DansMom replied: I soak it in that citrus veggie wash, agitate, rinse and spin.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I never use to, but now I do.

cameragirl21 replied: well, you can't wash off the e coli if it's there because it's inside the greens, it's like part of the leaf itself, kind of like if you soak a celery stalk in blue food coloring, the whole thing turns blue from the inside and there's no washing the blue off.
but still, i'm starting to think i should probably wash it.

MotherForever2043 replied: I wash EVERYTHING even meats.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I don't wash the bagged salad mixes and lettuce. I'm sure they are washed enough and one more time by me won't make a difference. wink.gif I do wash head lettuce and other things that I buy that aren't bagged and pre-washed.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I wash mine in a vinegar rinse. It also seems to last longer once I open the bag that way.

MommyToAshley replied:
Me too!!! thumb.gif
