window or aisle seat?
MamaJAM wrote: OK - Say you are traveling alone on an airplane. Would you rather have a window seat or an aisle seat? Why?
I need to get my seating request in for my trip in August and I'm not sure which to choose.
While a window seat would be nice for the view -- I'd be stuck between a stranger and a wall (not sure I like that). If I choose an aisle seat -- I'd have some 'space' next to me but I might have strangers climbing over me the whole trip to use the bathroom. I plan to have a book with me and be reading most of the time - so the view isn't a huge deal. I'm really torn. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. THANKS
Jamison'smama replied: For me, it is always the window--I can turn my body away from anyone else and sleep or read. The widow provides you with a view, knowledge of where you are, when you're about to land and just feels more private. Also, there is always a chance the middle seat is not taken. My DH always prefers the aisle for the leg room. He needs to be able to stretch.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I am no help I guarantee you that. But I would choose a window seat, only because I have never been on an airplane, and I would like to have the full effect of being a flying passenger by being able to see out the window.
1lilpeanut2love replied: I have NEVER been on an airplane. I hope I NEVER have to go on one either. Sorry I'm NO help. I'm terrified to go on one. My SO has never been on one either. We plan to NOT fly ever! Scary to us!!
na81 replied: I have never been on an airplane, but I would have to say isle seat. I think I would feel more comfortable with not having to climb over people to use the bathroom. Plus, I think you would have a little more room to move! Good luck with whatever you choose!!
PrairieMom replied: I always get isle. I get very air sick if I even peek out the window.
coasterqueen replied: Same here.
MamaJAM replied: See that's partly what I'm worried about. I've been on airplanes before -- but not since I was 14....and back then I had no problems with motion sickness -- though I have serious motion sickness now as an adult.
Thanks for the advice so far...keep it coming.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I'm a window kinda girl although the ADD side of me likes the aisle seat for people watching purposes, too!
luvmykids replied: I like the window, you can prop window on the wall if you want to snooze.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I prefer the window, I can lean against the wall and get a bit further away from the person next to me. In the aisle people are climbing over you and the beverage cart comes up and down. And bumps you.
moped replied: I don't care either way! Nice to have isle to run to the bathroom or whatever, or if you have kids an isle seat is ok too, window is just nice to look out. So either way I don't care.........I jsut like going places
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: And, Judy, I must have missed the post. Which destination did you decide on? You friend from school or the online friend you've never met IRL?
MamaJAM replied: I'm going to Idaho to visit my friend from school. She's thrilled as I'm the first person to visit them out there (not even either of their families have gone out to see them).
I'd rather save the trip to New Zealand for when I can afford to stay in a hotel -- and possibly have DH along.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Cool, enjoy my state. And try to get to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It's touristy, but worth it for a first time visitor.
kayla's mama replied: I always have to have the window seat. The isle seat you have strangers climbing over you and stuff, which irritates me to no end
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I like the aisle seat if I'm alone. This way I can get up without having to ask someone I don't know to move for me. Windows are better for sleeping, so if it's a long or late flight, you may consider that.
salmndr007 replied: It all depends on how long the flight is. If it is a short flight (less than 3 hours) I usually get a window because I know I can hold it if I have to go to the bathroom and no one will be climbing over you to get out of the seat. If it is a longer flight then I prefer the isle so that I can get up and move around a bit, plus it is easier than trying to climb over everyone to get out and go potty.
paradisemommy replied: definite window seat...i think the majority of the people like window seats so there is a possibility that nobody will be by you then you can have both
oh and if you are afraid of the window because of the airsickness - all you have to do is close the window shade and not look out the window..
MyLuvBugs replied: Window over the wing or in view of the wing b/c I want to know when the wing falls off so I can panic. I'm not fond of flying. First class is great too, but I still want a window.
luvmykids replied: Also if you ask for a bulkhead or exit row you may have a little more leg room.
kimberley replied: well have a fun trip! i would go with aisle. nothing worse than climbing over a bunch of people to use to loo or stretch your legs. you can still see out the window.
MamaJAM replied: I'm coming in and leaving from Jackson Hole. I don't know about doing any sight-seeing there. My friend works in Jackson Hole - so I don't know if she'll be wanting to hang around there on her vacation. We'll see.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Okay, take it from someone with severe motion sickness...get a window seat When they come by and ask you what you want to drink, get ginger ale. While it really has no 'ginger' in it, it still settles my stomach.
I also take an herbal motion sickness pill that is non drowsy and works GREAT!
Have a great trip!
ilovemybaby replied: Window seat!
ashtonsmama replied: WINDOW! For sure. I always take the window, or ask for it. I can't handle being so scrunched in the aisle and not being able to sleep on something, the window makes that possible...
holley79 replied: Depends on how long the trip is. When I flew from here to Orlando (3 hours) I took the window seat because I knew I wouldn't have to get up. To Mexico City, Mexico (6.5 hours) I took the isle. The bad part about the isle was that I kept getting bumped by everyone and their brother.
Brias3 replied: I really rarely fly alone so usually don't have to choose- we end up with one of each- but I do probably prefer the window. It feels more "private" to me to be in your own little corner. Just so I don't have to climb over someone AND to avoid the small, cramped plane restroom, I usually just go right before I get on board and try not to drink much so being in an aisle is never really that crucial to me.
