with regard to my poll - here is what your choices mean

cameragirl21 wrote: first i want to say there is no right or wrong answer here, every answer makes sense and has legitimacy in the world we live in today. so while it may seem like i favor some answers over others, the truth is that every answer is valid and makes perfect sense.
if you chose Jessica Alba, it means you see true, ultimate power in beauty. And there is logic to that--studies show that even babies, once their vision becomes perfect (as they are not born with good vision) tend to prefer attractive faces to unattractive faces, there is no question that as people we are drawn to those we perceive to have beauty. while i didn't choose Jessica i must say that i've heard myself on more than one occasion turn to my very exotic, very beautiful and striking persian cat and say, "if i were just half as cute as you, i could rule the world." there is no question that beauty begets power.
if you chose Mariah Carey, it means you see true power in talent, which is a gift from God (or whomever you believe in). Talent is something only certain individuals are born with...it sets them apart from the rest of society. Mariah is someone who was born into a family with no money and no influence and had no true opportunities, she had to get to where she is kicking, scratching and clawing her way to the top. nothing but her talent got here there.
notice that she is also good looking, not quite as beautiful as Jessica but again, that's a matter of opinion and i'd say the majority would describe Mariah as being pretty if not beautiful and she also has a killer body, probably nicer than Jessica's if you want to get technical. and Jessica is also an actress, not just a model. yet none of you who chose Jessica said you'd want to be her because of her acting talents and none of you who chose Mariah said you'd want to be her because she's good looking and/or has a nice body. the truth is i purposely chose Jessica, whom i am not here to criticize but in all fairness, she isn't an especially talented actress as compared to say, Julia Roberts or Sharon Stone...she is famous mostly for her beauty. and Mariah, while also attractive is known exclusiviely for her talent. so all in all, comparing the two makes it interesting for those of you who picked one of them. btw, if you chose Jessica it does NOT necessarily make you shallow or vain or whatever, just means that you see ultimate power in appearance, which is quite a power tool in our society. there is no doubt that at a job interview between two equally capable people, the more attractive one will get the job everytime.
if you chose Danica Patrick, it means you see ultimate power in athletics and the power of the body, especially pushing your body beyond where it can normally go. it also means you harbor a secret or not so secret desire to compete physically with boys. you want to show that you as a woman are equally on every level to a man. if you chose Danica it also suggests that when you were a little girl you liked playing with boys and were eager to challenge them to a physical fight and really wanted to win. you have a need to conquer on every level, even on the level that most would say you cannot beat a man on. but you will still try, so good for you. thumb.gif
if you chose Katie Couric, at the risk of sounding condescending, i'm very proud of you. happy.gif i personally chose Annie but if you chose Katie, i'm proud of you because it means you see true power in BRAINS and intellectual competence. Katie is also not exactly bad looking but it's her brains and thinking that got her to where she is, not her looks. She is the first woman anchor to have a major news network and she fought like a tiger, thru her husband's illness and death to get her way to the top. if you chose Katie then you believe ultimately that a woman's brain is most precious and useful asset and on some level you believe that Katie will beat out Jessica anytime, regardless of looks, body or anything else.
if you chose Annie, it means you see ultimate power in artistic talent and subtle influence. remember that a photographer or any artist is someone who shows you the world thru his/her eyes. just as an example, sometime back a photo was taken in Alaska of a baby seal, about to get clubbed to death for its fur. the seal, being young, naive and curious was looking up at the guy holding a club over it with interest and curiosity while the seal's mother was just a few feet away, having to watch her baby be brutally killed. that picture was distributed all around Alaska and completely destroyed the fur industry in Alaska. my point? that subtle influences, such as Annie's (and other artists') photos often have more influence on a society than the more outward and obvious influence like that of Condoleezza Rice, whom i'll get to next. if you chose Annie, you want to leave your mark on the world, that is your ultimate power, to have your art treasured long after you're gone. it also means you go by the beat of your own drummer and don't necessarily seek to fit in. artists are usually in their own world, dressing and acting the way that suits them and not trying to be a part of the crowd. if you chose Annie, you stick by your own ideas even if they're not popular or common. just to illustrate that, Annie gave birth to Sarah, the oldest of her three children at the age of 51. ohmy.gif society would say it was a bad decision on her part but Annie didn't care, she did what felt best for her.
if you chose Condoleezza, it means you want to actively make changes in policy and laws. it also means you don't fear restrictions, such as in the case of Condi, she is a double minority working in a clearly man's world and yet it doesn't deter her. you are less inclined toward subtlety, as opposed to those who wanted to be Annie and more inclined to scream your opinions off the rooftops to anyone who will listen. you are bold, eager, and want to be heard. you see clearcut problems in our policies and want to be a part of changing them. you don't fear the status quo and are eager to create your own status quo.
and if you chose Dr Laura/Ruth, it means you see true power in influencing the minds and personal problems of others. ultimately, the brain is the most powerful organ and you feel your influence would be best used to get in the minds and thoughts of each individual. it means you value each individual more than society as a whole and probably subscribe to the belief that if you can just change one person's mind, then you've succeeded in your mission. you like to talk to and deal with people on a very personal level and like to hear individual ideas instead of having one person represent a group of individuals.
i hope this was a fun exercise for everyone and that everyone learned something positive about herself. happy.gif

so if you know all do you have one that will tell you what job you would be best at?

cameragirl21 replied: haha, Di, i was just kidding about knowing everything...if i knew everything i wouldn't ask so many questions here and IRL! laugh.gif
as for a test to determine what job you'd be best at...give me some time to think about it and i'll come up with one. happy.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
okay let see if I am in the right profession.

b&bsmom replied: The answer for Danica Patrick, is so me!!!!! I still compete with "boys" (bowling) and don't ever let me here you say something like "that is good for a girl" my fil learned that the first day he met me!!!! The answer hits me right on the nose!!!!

Thanks

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Just FYI - Jessica Alba has publicly admitted that she slept her way to the top... so I'm not sure she's popular because of her "looks", or what she's done behind closed doors. wink.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:
rolling_smile.gif I read that interview too! rolling_smile.gif Honesty counts for something too right? laugh.gif

I think the choices were pretty self evident about which character traits they represented- wink.gif Plus a few that were not mentioned smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Actually, to be honest... I lny knew who Jessica Alba, Mariah Carey and Condoleeza Rice are. So I didn't vote... I couldn't vote fairly. emlaugh.gif
