idk, i've always been a huge U2 fan, not that this will get me into a church but maybe if i weren't Jewish....
i'm kind of at a loss for words though, not what i'd expect to see in church.... wink.gif
eta--what's your fave U2 song?
i really like Bad, Pride, So Cruel, Mysterious Ways, With or Without You, and really anything off the Achtung Baby CD....

luvbug00 replied: I am by far not a big u2 fan and i lothe bono. LOTHE him! so no wouldn't bring me to chuch and tbh I think it's a horrible way to bring people there. jmo.

cameragirl21 replied: i agree that it's a very strange idea to get people to come to church, guess it's a very modern church or maybe it's the church of U2.
i love U2 though and Bono too, so why do you loathe him?

gr33n3y3z replied: I cant stand U2
I dont like the way they think never did and never will the same for R.E.M

luvbug00 replied: I think Bono is very arrogent with his charitible endevors. I think he takes a "look at me i'm helping people" approch with the causes he pertisipates in and I'd like him if he had a slice of humble pie. There are other stars who humbaly do just as much charitable work and don't call as much attention to themselfs and that is what makes their works more inspiring for me.

As far as the church. it's kinda like come and listen to U2 but then when they decide to pull that idea then the real test will be who will stay within the congragation ( community, whatever)

Boo&BugsMom replied: Maybe I'm the odd man out...I love U2. Well, maybe not love them, but I've always liked their music. Bono doesn't bother me. I actually think he's a pretty down to Earth and humble man. It doesn't surprise me, considering how he's pretty outspoken about his own religious views.

HuskerMom replied:
Ditto, well said thumb.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: no way no how would it get me to go to church. In fact, in our visits to different churches to try and find one to start going to, we've been to a few that have "contemporary services" where they play loud music with electric guitars, keyboards, drums etc. I can't stand it. In addition to that, most of the congregation wear sorts or jeans. I much prefer the old fashioned church experience. Organ music, dress up clothes etc.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I LOVE the contemporary services!!! laugh.gif biggrin.gif The hymns, if not updated, just put me to sleep. snooze.gif

ETA: to answer your question Jen, if I was not already a church goer, it probably wouldn't get me to go to church, but for some people it may be a stepping stone in that direction. To each is own, I suppose.

C&K*s Mommie replied: my thoughts too. thumb.gif

redchief replied: I like some of their early stuff, before Bono proclaimed himself master and keeper of the world conscience. There is one later U2 song that I like, "Stand." I always thought that song was fun.

luvmykids replied:
Same here, I like the early U2 before Bono got too big for his britches.

CantWait replied: A church that is hip and not so straight edge is a definete bonus for me. This is one of the reasons I enjoyed going to the Alliance Church when we lived in Alberta.

They mostly sang (although not hip songs), it was casual and relaxed, you didn't have to stand, could wear what you wanted, and the sermons were real life.

I think it's a great idea (U2 or not, I'm sure they are just using this as an example really).

Nina J replied:
My thoughts exactly. And what you said about Bono, I agree.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I'm not much of a church goer - I haven't found one that's right for me yet. I'm not one for the sit-stand-sit-stand routine... not while being bored to tears with sermons dating back from yesteryear about stuff nobody can understand anyways - they're not even comprehensible... you have to interpret everything...and since everyone interprets things differently...the point of most sermons is lost on the people... considering they all talk about them afterwards and half the time most people are talking about different things... rolleyes.gif and the hymns...THE HYMNS! OMG I could write a page baout how BORING they are. I can't stand the ear-splitting sound of old women giving the hymns their best vibratto.... UGH!!

So yep - I'd probably enjoy going to relaxed churches where the dress code isn't stuffy and the sermons you can relate to, and the hymns you can see yourself humming in your head after church...

In any case - I love U2 - I went to a concert of theirs... and i don't particularly care about their opinion - I just like their music. laugh.gif
