your opinion please
boyohboyohboy wrote: ok, give me your opinion on this.. andrew is due next monday for his 18 month appt. he is to get an iron test and thats it.. well he has seen the dr almost weekly since oct..he had that herpes angina oct -nov and then ear infections till jan..and then just got sick last week for two weeks with pneumonia and rotavirus..so he has been seen and measured and is fine. he is healthy now..and just got his iron checked at wicc for our renewel and it was fine..perfect.. every time we go to the dr my kids get sick..every time and he as been so sick this winter with really serious stuff...I just dont want to take him.. this 18 month old physical just doesnt seem worth it to me.. he gets no shots, he is totally caught up on vax..
so am I a bad mom if I cancel it and dont take him? and just take him when he is sick again or two which ever comes first.. he is 20 months..he goes in 4 months for his two yr check up..
I watch 6 kids at one time, that is how andrew got so sick, not that he is a sickly kid normally..up until this winter he rarely got sick and never had an ear infection..and the only reason this one lasted for months, was because the dr treated him in the er for one dose of antibiotics and then refused to cont to treat him and then the infection became antibiotic resistant and we had a really hard time killing it.. this is a huge practice and I dont know if they dont clean the office well, or the drs are just carrying germs from one kid to another but we seriously always end up sick..
PrairieMom replied: I would cancel. Esp if you just had that lab done and it was fine.
my2monkeyboys replied: I'm the worst at getting those check-ups. Will has only been to one when he didn't get vax. If it were me I wouldn't take him either... no sense in it after all he's been through.
coasterqueen replied: I would just wait since you already had the lab work done.
I wouldn't be so quick to say it's the doc office that gets them sick every time, though. Your kids are exposed to other daycare kids as well as school, since you have one that goes. I know there are a lot of germs at the doc office, but there are germs everywhere and schools are breeding grounds for them.
CantWait replied: CANCEL. I hate going to doctor's for that very reason. It never seems to fail, you go, you get sick. If he's been seen recently and needs no furthur care, there's no point.
MommyToAshley replied: If he already had the labs, I would probably cancel.
I have to agree with you about the doc's office. When I take Ashley to the docs office, I don't let her play with the toys in the office. I bring books, crayons, and activities for her to do and then she sits on my lap. That way she doesn't play with the other kids that are sick or play with the toys that probably have tons of germs on them.
Once we had a doc in the practice different from Ashley's normal doc, and I didn't see her wash her hands. So, I asked about it. She probably thought I was a nut case, but I don't care. And, she did wash her hands in front of me.
momofone replied: I would cancel like you said you dont know what he may pick up at the office "germ wise".
CantWait replied: Omg, can you believe I never thought to do that Thanks for the idea.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'd cancel! I think even if he needed shots I'd wait until summer when there's less of a chance he'd get sick again. I wouldn't want to risk him getting sick again when he just got over being sick!
Mommy2Isabella replied: I would Cancel! I just called my ped. today to schedule Isaia's 15month checkup that won't occur until he is 17 months, and then I will THINK about the 18mon. haha because I HATE GOING ...
We have NO other children interaction on a daily basis such as daycare or school. Each time I have had to take him to the ped we always get some kind of cold or something. I like DeeDee don't let them touch ANYTHING.
boyohboyohboy replied: thank you to all of you who made me feel better about cancelling this appointment. I just dont want him to get sick again.
he is past due for the 18 month, he was 17 months when they did the 15 month because he was so sick at the time it was due, and for some stupid paper work reason refused to do his 18 month appt crap.. so now I wonder if they wont do the 2 yr appt if we skip the 18 month one? well guess I will find out.
I never let my kids play with the toys or touch the books.. nor do we sit in the chairs..my kids go in a double stroller..
Boo&BugsMom replied: I would cancel too, especially since he's already 20 months old. I see no point in it unless you would have any concern to ask the doctor about.
A&A'smommy replied: I would cancel also.. do they not have seperate sick and well baby rooms? I know at ours they are VERY clean, they clean the rooms after every patient (sick or not) and the doctors wash their hands often including as soon as they walk into the room
