your worst nightmare

cameragirl21 wrote: ok, i can think of more but i think that is enough spookiness for one poll. they are all scary but pick the one that would freak you out the MOST.

Calimama replied: Def. the shark one. unsure.gif

me too, even though i love sharks, have been fascinated by them since i was little, have had a ten foot bull shark swim up to me in the ocean (and as you see, i survived) and am eager to go on a shark dive so i can see them up close.
there was a time i'd not have given this one a second thought until i saw the movie "Deep Water" in which this same scenario happened to a couple...boy, did that freak me out.
i think the issue here is loss of control--there's nowhere to hide, you're out of your element no matter how good a swimmer you are and you'll just never outswim a shark. whereas in the others, you have some sense of being able to save yourself although the earthquake and hurricane can take you out before you even know what hit you, as i've been thru both and the rabid animal could be pretty scary too.
eta--that movie is called "Open Water" not deep water, i knew something didn't sound right. it's a really good movie btw and i highly recommend renting it if you haven't seen it.

jcc64 replied: I have another one that plays through my head every time I commute to my job in NY-
Being in a train in an underwater tunnel at the bottom of the Hudson River, when a terrorist's bomb is detonated, thereby trapping me in an inescapable water grave.
This scenario brought to you by an actual plot uncovered sometime last year to blow up the very commuter train I take all the time.

cameragirl21 replied:
i thought about adding terrorists to the mix but tbh, i think that would be the worst one for all of us because in all fairness, you can trust a shark, rabid animal, earthquake, etc more than you can trust a terrorist whose said goal is to kill you.
what irks me the most about terrorists is that they target those against whom they have no realistic complaint. no one who died on 911 did anything to any of the killers and their choice of politics may or may not be in line with some of the killers also.

I think they would see it differently, Jen. I think the WTC was picked because it was the biggest, most blatant symbol of the excesses of capitalism (in their view) in a neighborhood devoted to the gluttonous accumulation of wealth, often on the backs of those lower down on the economic ladder. (again, their view). The people who worked there were all willing participants in the ongoing oppression of their causes, their religion, their people. (again, this is NOT my opinion).
We're all lumped together in a great big infidel cesspool, whether we're investment bankers or janitors. There is very little distinction in the minds of zealots- we're all fair game.

cameragirl21 replied:
i realize that, Jeanne, but i think that is my issue with them and that is why i lean to the right on this particular issue. personally, i have a problem with the fact that 8 year old boys can drive in saudi arabia but women can't. i have a problem with the fact that a woman can lose her home, her husband and her whole life for the god awful crime of giving birth to a baby girl. i have a problem with the fact that if a saudi (and this is true of many islamic nations, not just saudi) girl is raped, very likely her rapist will go free but she will be killed in an "honor killing" very likely at the hands of her father, brother, or even mother. blink.gif and i can go on and on about this....
BUT
you don't see me hijacking a saudi jumbo jet and ramming it into mecca during hajj, do you?
it's the difference between barbarians and civlized human beings, which is why i say that a terrorist is far more dangerous than a great white shark who hasn't eaten in months.

CantWait replied: I said waking up in public naked. Seriously though I think people seeing me naked would be scarier. emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

sparkys2boys replied: Im siding on the sharks here too.

gr33n3y3z replied: everything else that was said you have control over and have a chance if you use your sences to the point of no harm being done to you.

an earthquake that is a 9.9 you dont so thats what I picked

my2monkeyboys replied: open water... sharks..... enough said. blink.gif

luvbug00 replied: as long as i am not high up or in a small confined space I can handle any of the sitations above with ease. happy.gif
