User Submitted Delta Children's Products Portable Mini Crib in Natural Reviews November 11, 2008 Excellent I am a single father with twin infants who spend most of their time with mom and the rest with me in my 1 bedroom apt. This product works extremely well for me since the cribs can roll, be folded and stored and seem sturdy enough to support my twin boys. Highly recommended for parents with small babies and limited space at home. I would suggest a different mattress since this one is fairly thin.
November 6, 2008 Why didn't we register for this instead of a cheap bassinett? Shortly after the birth of our second son, our cheap bassinet was recalled. At the same time, our son was ready to progress to a crib, but wasn't quite ready to share a room with his older brother. We wanted to continue to keep our baby in our room until he could sleep through the night, but needed an item with a small foot print.
This crib is compact, assembles, collapses and sets up easily (I, a 5'3" woman assembled it and then carried it up three floors by myself).
The crib bottom can be set at two heights, has a drop-side, collapses in half, and holds up to 45lbs. One thing to note, the crib does not have locking wheels and our 23 month old can easily pull his 7 month old brother around the room with ease. We're presently working on solution to this issue. Most likely we will remove wheels & cover leg ends with felt.
The crib is classical in styling and is sturdily built. We love this crib and kick ourselves for not registering for this instead of the bassinet.
Oh forgot to mention that when the crib is in its highest setting (bassinet), with the drop-side down, the crib can also be used as a changing table.
June 30, 2008 Too big to put in the car - not 'portable' at all! It was easy to put together and just the right size (or so we thought) for our 18 month old, who we are taking on vacation, hence the need for a portable crib.
When we went to put it into our car (which, I might add, is an incredibly spacious mini-SUV), we were shocked to find that it did not fit. Not only did it not fit flat in the back of the SUV, but it also did not fit in the trunk of our BMW (two good sized cars and this 'portable' crib didn't fit?!?!?) What is going on?
Needless to say, I would advise taking measurements first before ordering - this crib is great to move from room to room, but if you are looking to travel with it in your car, look out! We've ended up having to buy a roof rack, just to be able to use it on our trip.
June 22, 2008 Junk I ordered this crib for my son to have at my parents house for visits. Don't waste your money. I don't know how Delta can even produce such a piece of junk. Honestly, a better use for it would be firewood.
June 17, 2008 Great interim crib Our oldest is too young to move to the big boy bed, so we got this one for the new baby. I admit, the mattress isn't great, but it works fine. I flip it often because it gets a head impression/dent from where he lays in it.
I made a cute bumper for the crib (the breathable one works too, just use the one long piece) and it looks great and his room. WAY cuter than a Pack-n-Play!
We've also brought this camping. It fits perfectly between the benches in our camper.
September 10, 2007 Great crib! We got this crib because our son refused to sleep in two of the other "pack and play" style cribs. Fortunately, he took right to this one on the road! Maybe it's because it looks and feels more like his "real" crib.
It is a bit bulky so fortunately our vehicle can handle it (lies flat in the back); otherwise, it would be difficult to use. The mattress is a little flimsy. Overall, though, we are pleased with the quality.
July 21, 2007 Great for small spaces This crib was a lifesaver for us! We live in a small condo and didn't have room for a full-size crib. This was the PERFECT solution. Because it's made of wood, it looks much classier than the other alternatives we considered (which were made of white plastic tubing or were pack-and-plays). It also conforms to all the safety standards for portable cribs.
It was simple to assemble, folds very flat, and can easily roll through doorways. The platform is easy to switch from the upper to the lower position (but this design makes it impossible to put a skirt on the crib unless you are able to sew your own with openings for the levers and the parts of the platform that protrude through the slats). Only one side goes up and down, and it does take two hands to do that... but at 5 feet 5 inches tall I can easily reach in and out without having to raise or lower the side.
It differs from a standard size crib mainly in that it is not as long, so I don't anticipate that our daughter will be able to climb out of it any earlier than she would a standard size crib. We also put my friends' two year old (who is at the 90th percentile for height) into this crib once, and he fit in it just fine.
Like other reviewers, we did buy a two inch portable crib mattress (38 x 24 inches) to replace the thinner mattress that came with the crib. We love the crib so much, however, that this extra expense was no big deal. Of note, two inches is the thickest mattress that is considered safe for this crib.
I don't think this crib would be practical for families looking for something to take in the car on trips, but it's great for those without room for the full-size version or who want something that can be set up and then stored away again quickly (i.e. at Grandma's house).
ADDENDUM At 18 months, our daughter is now 32 inches tall and weighs 27 lbs. She still sleeps just fine in this crib and hasn't climbed out once. Though it's starting to look a little cramped in there for her, she doesn't seem to mind a bit.
We were able to hand a Fischer-Price aquarium on one of the short sides for her. We've also taken it to the babysitter's house in the back of our Subaru Outback.
We've learned that you have to be careful with the little plastic hook in front because it can scratch the finish if you don't hold it away from the slat as you move it.
Overall, we are still thrilled with this purchase and are hoping that it will last us until our daughter is ready for a regular bed.
June 6, 2007 great small scale crib and doubles as changing table I was really impressed with the quality of this crib, and the price included the mattress! I didn't think the thin mattress was much of an issue, because the baby hardly weighs enough to sink down into a mattress; I much rather have a thin mattress that I can trust is safe and fits properly in the crib.
We haven't used the crib too much for our 3 month old, as she usually sleeps in bed with us, but she does nap in it and it's still a good size for her at 12.5 lbs. We do find the crib extremely handy as a changing table. We lay down a disposable paper mat on the bed during the day for changing purposes, and remove it when our baby naps. Because my husband and I are both 6' we used bed risers make it a more comfortable height for our backs. Plastic Bed Risers - Set of 4
I never would have imagined we'd get so much use out of the crib, especially considering the baby doesn't even sleep in it at night! It's been one of our best baby purchases yet.
May 10, 2007 old fashioned - I guess I bought this crib because I had used the old wooden portable cribs. The crib is lovely, because it is wood but it is certainly not made like they used to be. My children range from newborn to 18, so I thought I would be able to store it for grandchildren one day. The plastic holding up the side totally ruins the crib. Why would they put such a cheap part on a wooden crib, which is priced similiar to full size cribs? Call me old-fashioned, but bring back the metal latches, they lasted for ever. I'm already telling my children not to keep putting the sides up and down and certainly my three yr. old can't stand on the side.
March 21, 2007 Satisfied The item arrived in a timely manner and as advertised. I am happy with the purchase.
