A great product!!
I bought two of these gates to use as baby gates. They keep my daughter in the living room but allow our cats and small dog to have access to the rest of the house. These gates are very sturdy, and I have recommended them to a lot of friends with babies!! This is a great product!!

Carlson Extra Wide Pet Gate - Awesome
This gate is one of the best I have seen for the price. A lot of reviews mention door closure issues and other anomolies. Read the instructions, but you might look below and see my tips.... :-)
TIPS:
Assemble the gate so it is within 2" of the sidewalls where you want to mount it. Start with the bottom screws and tighten them equally to provide equal distance from each wall. Align these so they are staright and flat against the wall as the pressure fittings will slip when istalled at an angle under pressure. Tighten these adjustments until the gate no longer moves under slight pressure from your hand pushing it.

Move to the top screws and adjust them so the pads just meet the wall on each side and there is slight resistance in the adjustment knob. On the opposite side from the latch, turn the adjustment 2 or 3 more times to apply medium pressure against the wall.
Move to the side of the gate where the latch is. Note the gap that prevents the latch from making proper contact and staying closed. You will eventually close that gap to make this truly functional. On one side of the latch, there is a shorter "catch" that will allow the gate to swing open away from that side of the gate. Tighten the adjustment screw until the latch has just come together and cannot swing open on it's own. Once in this position, you may want to tighten that same adjustment to place just a little more pressure against the wall. DO NOT over tighten where the door is catching on the side rails!

I installed this weeks ago and have not had to either adjust it or make excuses for improper operation. It works as advertised and has performewd flawlessly.

I find the purchase of extensions for the gate a little confusing as they are not always availbale fromt he same online vendor, but the hardware has been great.

A quality gate, easily installed.
We purchased 2 of these gates in order to allow our cat to pass freely when necessary, yet keep the dog and cat separated at other times. We paid $39.97 at WalMart. That price probably can't be beaten. Installation took all of about 15 minutes from box to finished installation. Yes, the gate opening will close up when you properly tension the unit in the door opening. Follow the instructions, and don't over tighten things, and you will be just fine. Kudos to Carlson for a quality product at a reasonable price. NOTE: This gate is also available as a child-safe gate, without the small door, under the Evenflo SimpleStep Pressure Gate Taupe label, which sells for $39.95 direct from Amazon. If you don't need the small access door to allow certain pets to come and go, that might be the gate for you.

Good gate for the price
I just bought this at our local PetSmart and came online to see if I could have gotten a better price (answer is YES - Amazon is $20 bucks less than at the store - but I needed it today). The gate comes with two extensions which make the gate wider - I did not use either on as the install is in a standard door. The gate installs with four pressure knobs on each of the corners and you will not be able to use the gate until pressure forces the gate together on the top. All in all, I think it took less than 5 minutes to get in in the door and operating and it seems high enough quality. My cat is using the door already and the gate is keeping my cocker out of the room, as intended. I would definitely recommend this unit, especially at the lower online price!!

keeps the dogs out!!!
After receiving the gate, it took me only 20 minutes to get it installed on our staircase. from that moment on no dogs are getting upstairs! Great product.

Extra Tall Gate
Extra-Wide Walk-Thru Gate - White (30") I have this gate and it functions really well. It is difficult to put together in that you think it is broken because it doesn't seem to come together at the top....BUT it does when you continue to crank it down. I have another brand of shorter gate that is the same system. I did find it in black and my only negative comment is that I would prefer the door walk through be a bit wider. It does stay put.

Gate Doesn't Latch
I purchased one of these from Target and I had the same issues. Its not welded square and it says its supposed to be like that. Ok so I go with it and tighten the tension rods...read the directions again...re-tighten tension rods. I messed around with it for over 45min and there was still too much of a gap for the door to catch the latch. I think the worst part is there isn't enough reinforcement on the side frame member as the top bends in from the tension. The usability of this gate is terrible I just ended up getting these plastic pressure gates that worked ten times better and cost half as much.

Pet Gate
This gate is wonderful especially if you have cats, and you don't need to permanently secure it to the wall.

Not worth the money
This may be one of the cheaper options when it comes to pet gates, but it is not worth the money. When I put the gate together, the door and the rail where it is supposed to latch did not meet. The directions said that this was normal and would fit properly once the gate was installed with the proper tension. After installing the gate and adjusting the tension, the latch and rail still do not meet. I am not able to lock the swinging door. I have used the gate anyway, since it still serves its purpose. However after several weeks of use, the screws at the bottom have become loose, and possibly stripped since I have been unable to tighten them. The side rail flops back and forth and does not stand up straight. The whole gate unit is off balance and tips over frequently. I am going to contact the manufacturer, but I have basically accepted that I just threw $50 down the drain. I would recommend saving your $50 and investing it in a slightly more expensive, but better put together gate.
