User Submitted Delta Children's Products Portable Mini Crib in Natural Reviews June 30, 2008 Too big to put in the car - not 'portable' at all! It was easy to put together and just the right size (or so we thought) for our 18 month old, who we are taking on vacation, hence the need for a portable crib.
When we went to put it into our car (which, I might add, is an incredibly spacious mini-SUV), we were shocked to find that it did not fit. Not only did it not fit flat in the back of the SUV, but it also did not fit in the trunk of our BMW (two good sized cars and this 'portable' crib didn't fit?!?!?) What is going on?
Needless to say, I would advise taking measurements first before ordering - this crib is great to move from room to room, but if you are looking to travel with it in your car, look out! We've ended up having to buy a roof rack, just to be able to use it on our trip.
June 22, 2008 Junk I ordered this crib for my son to have at my parents house for visits. Don't waste your money. I don't know how Delta can even produce such a piece of junk. Honestly, a better use for it would be firewood.
June 17, 2008 Great interim crib Our oldest is too young to move to the big boy bed, so we got this one for the new baby. I admit, the mattress isn't great, but it works fine. I flip it often because it gets a head impression/dent from where he lays in it.
I made a cute bumper for the crib (the breathable one works too, just use the one long piece) and it looks great and his room. WAY cuter than a Pack-n-Play!
We've also brought this camping. It fits perfectly between the benches in our camper.
September 10, 2007 Great crib! We got this crib because our son refused to sleep in two of the other "pack and play" style cribs. Fortunately, he took right to this one on the road! Maybe it's because it looks and feels more like his "real" crib.
It is a bit bulky so fortunately our vehicle can handle it (lies flat in the back); otherwise, it would be difficult to use. The mattress is a little flimsy. Overall, though, we are pleased with the quality.
July 21, 2007 Great for small spaces This crib was a lifesaver for us! We live in a small condo and didn't have room for a full-size crib. This was the PERFECT solution. Because it's made of wood, it looks much classier than the other alternatives we considered (which were made of white plastic tubing or were pack-and-plays). It also conforms to all the safety standards for portable cribs.
It was simple to assemble, folds very flat, and can easily roll through doorways. The platform is easy to switch from the upper to the lower position (but this design makes it impossible to put a skirt on the crib unless you are able to sew your own with openings for the levers and the parts of the platform that protrude through the slats). Only one side goes up and down, and it does take two hands to do that... but at 5 feet 5 inches tall I can easily reach in and out without having to raise or lower the side.
It differs from a standard size crib mainly in that it is not as long, so I don't anticipate that our daughter will be able to climb out of it any earlier than she would a standard size crib. We also put my friends' two year old (who is at the 90th percentile for height) into this crib once, and he fit in it just fine.
Like other reviewers, we did buy a two inch portable crib mattress (38 x 24 inches) to replace the thinner mattress that came with the crib. We love the crib so much, however, that this extra expense was no big deal. Of note, two inches is the thickest mattress that is considered safe for this crib.
I don't think this crib would be practical for families looking for something to take in the car on trips, but it's great for those without room for the full-size version or who want something that can be set up and then stored away again quickly (i.e. at Grandma's house).
June 6, 2007 great small scale crib and doubles as changing table I was really impressed with the quality of this crib, and the price included the mattress! I didn't think the thin mattress was much of an issue, because the baby hardly weighs enough to sink down into a mattress; I much rather have a thin mattress that I can trust is safe and fits properly in the crib.
We haven't used the crib too much for our 3 month old, as she usually sleeps in bed with us, but she does nap in it and it's still a good size for her at 12.5 lbs. We do find the crib extremely handy as a changing table. We lay down a disposable paper mat on the bed during the day for changing purposes, and remove it when our baby naps. Because my husband and I are both 6' we used bed risers make it a more comfortable height for our backs. Plastic Bed Risers - Set of 4
I never would have imagined we'd get so much use out of the crib, especially considering the baby doesn't even sleep in it at night! It's been one of our best baby purchases yet.
May 10, 2007 old fashioned - I guess I bought this crib because I had used the old wooden portable cribs. The crib is lovely, because it is wood but it is certainly not made like they used to be. My children range from newborn to 18, so I thought I would be able to store it for grandchildren one day. The plastic holding up the side totally ruins the crib. Why would they put such a cheap part on a wooden crib, which is priced similiar to full size cribs? Call me old-fashioned, but bring back the metal latches, they lasted for ever. I'm already telling my children not to keep putting the sides up and down and certainly my three yr. old can't stand on the side.
March 21, 2007 Satisfied The item arrived in a timely manner and as advertised. I am happy with the purchase.
December 12, 2006 Don't Buy Extras The crib just the way it comes is best. A thicker mattress would be bad for 2 reasons. Firm is best to avoid suffocation dangers. Bumber pads are also recommended against by *all* modern advice sites and classes. SIDS deaths appear to be related to suffocation, and this happens usually when the baby's mouth and nose are against padding. Firm mattress (like this very thin one) are much safer. The main thing is to always lay the infant on it's back to sleep, and not on it's belly. Also, never use a bumber padding in *any* crib for any very young child. Finally, there is also the issue of "outgassing" of any kind of waterproof plastic type matress covers and foam filling. What you want, if you can't afford the very expensive natural options, is a *thin* mattress like this one, that won't have a lot of material to outgas, thus reducing the exposure of your baby to these common somewhat toxic VOCs. Best is to buy this a few weeks (or longer) ahead of time, and then air out the mattress. I'm even putting ours in the clothes dryer on low heat just past the switch off point, so that the drying heats it up a little and then clicks off the heat and continues exhausting air past it until the end of cycle. This is my own idea of how to accelerate the outgassing, so that our new baby in January won't have much VOCs to breath.
October 4, 2006 Great Crib If Your Space Is Limited We have 2 kids in a 2-bedroom apartment. When our 2nd child was born, we put him in our bedroom. There is not much space there, so this portable crib was a great find! We use it as a permanent crib until our son outgrows it.
Pros: saves space, folds, easy to move from room to room (on wheels), really easy to change the sheets (compared to regular crib with heavy matress). It also has very neutral color and style, so it fits really well with other traditional furniture.
Cons: the baby will outgrow it in about 1 year, the matress is extremely thin (about 1 inch!). We bought an extra matress (the normal thickness) for about $20. To find it, do a search for "portable crib matress".
