User Submitted Graco Vienna Travel System Reviews July 18, 2006 Nice stroller, but heavy and harness problem We purchased this as a travel system. While pregnant, I tested this out in the store and we were satisfied that it wouldn't be too heavy or bulky. Mistake. Testing it without a 16 pound baby in one arm was a mistake. Testing it a few inches from the floor (instead of picking it up horizontally a few feet, like where my car trunk is) was a mistake. This thing is heavy (almost 22 pounds). It's heavy, and it kills my back everytime I have to put it in the trunk. (I have a mid-size car not a van or SUV.) Also, the tray doesn't fold, so it sticks out taking up yet more room and barely fitting in my trunk.
The stroller itself is lovely. Moves nicely, easily steerable with one hand, great storage basket. Nice, sturdy, smooth stroller.
A HUGE complaint is that the 5-point harness does not tighten nearly enough to hold my almost-5-month-old. On its tightest, I've still got about 2 inches of space between it and him. I thought I must be doing something wrong. Brought it to the store and asked them. No, they said, it can't tighten any more than that. Called Graco and asked. Nope, you're not doing anything wrong, that's as much as it tightens. How stupid is this? Totally unsafe. And no, he wants nothing to do with the car seat in the stroller (he barely tolerates it in the car), so that's not an option. This is not a tiny boy, either. He's about 16 pounds -- large enough to sit in the stroller comfortably -- but totally unsafe to put him there because the harness is way too loose. They HAVE to fix this issue.
I wish the thing was easier to fold, too -- it's supposed to be easy and it looked easy, but mine does not fold with one hand like it's supposed to. But I can deal with that. My problem is how heavy it is. Like I said, it seemed fine in the store. But after using it every day and fighting to get it in the trunk every day, well, I'm on my way to the store today to get a lightweight Combi or Peg Perego (about 10 pounds - quite a difference). Okay so they're not made as well, and okay so they won't last as long, but at least I won't yank out the muscles in my back getting the thing into and out of the car trunk every day. What a shame. Wish Graco would make a decent lightweight (TRULY lightweight - 10 pounds or so) stroller. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Great company, and this is a great stroller if you're young and in fantastic shape. Otherwise, make absolutely sure you can lift it horizontally all the way up to a car trunk-level, every day, before you buy it.
July 14, 2006 Very satisfied with Graco Vienna We did a lot of shopping and test-driving travel systems. We knew that we wanted a Graco infant car seat, as they have very good safety ratings (I think they rank highest). We chose the Graco Vienna over other Graco systems because it was a good compromise. It is small enough for the folded stroller to fit in the trunk of our compact car (the larger, heavier Graco Models like Quattro Tour were too large). We also like that this model has a "standing fold", where the front (where the tray is) and the rear (where the handle is) of the stroller fold together and can stand without support. Many of the other Graco models use a fold where the stroller folds down over the wheels, toward the ground. This is combined with the additional weight of these models, and I did not want to be dead-lifting 26 pounds from the ground immediately after giving birth! We liked the Vienna a little better than the Metrolite, which is similar in weight and had the same standing fold. The Vienna seems more sturdy and automatically locks in the standing postion, while you have to flip a plastic hook over to secure the fold on the Metrolite. We've been using it for over 2 months now on an almost daily basis, and are satisfied with our choice.
