Not a good buy!
I purchased this produce and the device started to fail just a few months after the purchase. The device was used maybe a few times per month so it wasn't overused. I called Madela and I was able to get it working again through troubleshooting the problem. I used it a few times after that and then maybe 4 months later I needed to use it again and could not. I called Madela to trouble shoot and the woman told me that after the 1st troubleshoot call the motor started breaking down because of the method of troubleshooting so now that the warranty is up (6 months) all they could do was offer me a 20% discount from what they charge which would make the purchase price the same as buying it on Amazon.com. The person who initially did the troubleshooting should have told me about the motor so I could get another pump within my warranty. Now, I have to spend money on another pump. This product is unreliable and the company has terrible customer service. DO NOT BUY IT!

Easy to use, easy to clean
This breast pump is easy to use. I use it occasionally when I need relief when my son is full but my breasts are not empty or when I know that I need to leave milk for a sitter. I use it with the Playtex breast milk storage system. I love both products! I like the fact that you can adjust the suction to fit your comfort level. It is easy to clean as well.

Practical, convenient, and good price point
I use this pump with my first daughter, now 5 and I am now using it with my newborn. I use this pump daily at least once a day, sometimes two. It takes me about 10 minutes per breast and get 4 - 5 ounces. I have tried another brand manual pump (takes too long) and electric pump. I always came back to this one. For a few dollars more, go with this one. You will not be dissapointed. It is great for work. It is small enough to put in a fashionable lunch box, practical, the price point is great.

great for occasional pumping!!
I bought this pump about 6 weeks after my baby was born. I'd been using the manual pump and it was just too much work for an already tired and busy mom! This pump is much easier to use and much faster too. I reccomend this pump for stay at home moms that need stored milk for night out with dad...or any other reason that baby will have to stay with a sitter! This pump is great for on the go too. The night I had out with my hubby I actually brought the pump with me and pumped around the time I would have been feeding my little one right there in the car! I've never had a problem not being able to get much out, I think the amount you are able to pump has to do with the woman, not the pump because I have a friend who has the symphony pump and can only get 1-2 oz from BOTH breasts! There is a down side though; it is a bit noisy and takes some getting used to! I had my baby sleeping right next to me and it didnt disturb her one bit so I think its just annoying to the mom!!!

Good, Basic Pump
This pump is practical and easy to use. I used it successfully for two pregnancies. The motor finally broke when I tried to make it work twice as hard for a set of twins.

Assembly is simple, you can adjust the suction strength to your own comfort levels, and I was able to get a minimum of four ounces per breast. For first time moms and moms who have previously be exposed to formula fed babies, keep in mind that breast fed babies eat less per feeding, but more frequently, so 3 ounces is fine! Also, you will need to condition yourself to "let down" when you pump. If you do not let down, you will only be able to pump the foremilk, and it will most likely hurt! I suggest pumping on one side while you nurse your baby on the other side, in this way you will experience a let down while pumping and get out that rich hindmilk, which is what keeps baby full and happy! Once you are conditioned you will be able to pump without baby's help.

Most problems many women have with pumps have to do with their comfort levels. If you can't relax you won't let down, and you can pump for all your worth, the milk won't come out. Baby gets milk out by massaging your breast and stimulating your nipple, inducing let down.
Basically what I am tring to say is that it isn't so much the PUMP as it is YOU. Relax!!! This pump works just fine.

I used it on a cross county driving trip when my daughter was 3 months old. I pumped milk from the front seat (buy the car adapter!) and passed the bottles back to my mom so we didn't have to pull over every 2 hours to nurse. It was great! I am a stay at home mom. I recommend this for the mom who wants to give the occasional bottle to her baby for convenience(no more than twice a day). It is not a workhorse. Meant for occasional, supplemental use.

does the job
i've been using a hand pump for the last 6 weeks and basically stopped pumping for a couple weeks because it was so time consuming and labor intensive (sore hand/arm) I just got this pump yesterday and it is definitely not super effective but it is much more effective than a hand pump for me and its nice to not have to be squeezing the thing the whole time. For engorgement it is less painful than the hand pump. Of course I have a well established milk supply and am 6 weeks post baby so I am not using it to specifically increase my supply so much as to ensure that I always have some milk in the freezer for outings. I try to pump a few times a day so that I have at least one whole bottle's worth pumped every day. I can easily get a couple of ounces out at a time and I think its faster than a hand pump too.

works ok, probably not the best pump
I bought this pump after having used the Avent Isis. I went to full expression for my baby and ended up spending several hours on the pump everyday, so getting an electric was clearly a must!
This pump works, and you don't end up with sore muscles as with the Avent Isis. At the same time, I am not convinced it is as efficient as the Avent Isis... The good point is that I have one hand free when using this pump, which I did not have with the Isis. The bad point is that I probably spend a bit more time with this one than I would need with a better pump. And it is REALLY loud, so there is no way I can watch a DVD while expressing.
As I plan to carry on to express several times per day, I am getting a Medela pump in style, everybody says it's a great pump, and the double pumping will no doubt save me time.

Didn't last long
Heed the bad reviews. I think the problem may be Medela's definition of "occasional use." I used this pump about once every other day or two for a month and a half--and apparently that is deemed more than occasional, because the pump yields very little now... about half of what it used to. So this is yet another review that leads to the same conclusion: I should have gotten a different pump.

Pretty decent pump and it lasts!
I bought this pump in 2001 for when I nursed my first daughter. I pumped only occasionally and I agree it took a while to pump out a minimum amount...usually about 20 minutes for 4 or 5 ounces. But for the occasional use, highly recommend a single pump.
5 1/2 years later the pump still works with all it's original parts! I currently pump every couple of days so my husband can help feed this 2nd baby girl and my gosh, I'll never go to the grocery store without a bottle again! LOL
Of all the pumps I've heard of the the medela is the one most recommended.
I only gave this a 3 because yeah, the pump is a bit loud, although the sound puts my baby to sleep, and it does take the 20 minutes to pump a bit!

Great little electric pump- take it from a mom of six!
Ever since our first child was born, I have had trouble breastfeeding. I produce a copious amount of milk and find it is extremely difficult to teach my tiny newborns to latch on properly. Therefore, I have relied heavily on this little electric Medela pump for all six of our newborns.

I have read several reviewers say that the pump is sufficient only for occasional pumping sessions, but that has not been my experience. I actually stopped breastfeeding two of our newborns entirely until they were each about six weeks old and could latch on properly without damaging me. I used this pump to express milk seven to eight times a day for those six weeks and never had a problem. The motor kept on going strong until the last baby.

Now, all that said, I will say that I am planning on purchasing a double pump for our seventh, due in ten weeks. I anticipate the same struggles with breastfeeding him that I have had with all the others and I would like to be able to pump both sides at once. Pumping then feeding baby from a bottle can consume my entire day, and pumping quickly will be a welcome help.
