AVENT IQ BOTTLE WARMER SCF260/11
User Submitted Philips Avent iQ Bottle Warmer Reviews November 17, 2008 Helps keep your sanity! This bottle warmer works great. I bought two for my twin sons. So far the biggest bottle we have warmed is 4oz. We set it at the fridge setting for the premixed formula bottles we have in the fridge in the middle of the night and 2oz. over whatever is in the bottle, like previous reviews said, otherwise they don't quite get warm enough. Warmer is easy to use even in the middle of the night.
November 10, 2008 iQ = mentally retarded I don't normally post product reviews, but I found the Philips Avent iQ Bottle Warmer to be so insanely frustrating to use that I am compelled to warn others about its bad design.
This product violates the basic rule of product design that interface buttons should only have one function. On the iQ, it has only 2 buttons to control several unrelated functions. Either the marketing department thought that having only 2 buttons looked cool or the accounting department is being overzealous in cost cutting.
Moreover, instead of giving the user a useful error message when something is wrong, all the lights on the front of the bottle warmer blink inexplicably. The bottle warmer will not operate until the user (a tired parent in the middle of the night with a screaming baby), pulls out the manual to troubleshoot the device.
I first thought the iQ was broken because you have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds to start it. After managing to turn it on, you have to push the same power button several times to cycle through the modes (as indicated by tiny hard to read lights). You have to set it each time because the iQ will not remember what mode you last used.
You then have to repeatedly push the other button to select the amount of fluid to be heated. If you pass your desired setting, you have to start the process all over gain. After repeatedly mashing the second button, you have to push and hold that same button to start the bottle warmer.
Most annoyingly, the bottle warmer interface will blink at you when there is a problem. The warmer will not start, and there isn't an error light indicating the specific problem. Not enough water added? Angry blinking. Lid not completely closed? Same blinking. Warmer needs descaling? Blink blink blink.
With a crying baby on my shoulder in the middle of the night, I have found it hard not to throw the iQ through the window in a fit of rage. Many times I have resorted to heating bottles under running tap water. I have no idea how the designers of this product expected the parents of newborns to master this device. Clearly they don't have children of their own.
November 7, 2008 Works great, best This warmer works great once we figured out how it works. We use Dr. Brown bottles, and we have no problem getting them to the right temperature. There is a button for whether it is from the fridge, freezer, or room, and one to choose the amount that is in the bottle. We found that it warms up the milk to warmer than room temperature, which was good, since we didn't want something scalding. If you don't take the bottle out as soon as it beeps, then the bottle will of course keep heating, so make sure that you check the heat once you remove it. If you find that the immediate removal has the bottle too cool, leave it in until you hear the second beep, etc. Very very handy, and quite fast-within 4 minutes, maybe faster. Easy to use-just keep the water level right. Too bad our kid now prefers milk from the fridge unwarmed.
October 13, 2008 Not worth the $ I bought this item before our baby was born, thinking it would be useful for warming up bottles. While it definitely is useful for that, it has a few major design flaws that, had I known about, would have caused me to purchase a different (and much less expensive) alternative.
The cons: 1. Complicated operation - ideally, a bottle warmer should be intuitive and simple to use for those 3 AM feedings when one can't even see straight. We have been using this warmer for over three months and still need to use the instruction card for operation. 2. Operation requires 2 hands - a major problem when you have a screaming baby in one hand! 3. Perhaps we just got a lemon, but the unit stopped working after 2 months use - we got a replacement from Babies R Us (where we originally purchased the item - sadly it stopped working just after the return period) and it has worked for the month we have had it
Ultimately, I think this product ended up being a waste of time and money - we do still use it, but I wish we had purchased a simpler, less expensive version, such as those offered by The First Years.
October 7, 2008 A must for frozen mild/food. My wife breast feed so my son was used to milk on demand so when she was away and he got hungry it was important to have milk heat quickly. This will do frozen milk, or chilled. It also has a setting for room temp stuff. You can also put food in it so you can extend the life of the product by using it longer. I admit the price seemed a bit high but looking back it was worth every penny when your child is crying and needs warm milk.
September 14, 2008 don't buy for europe It literally lasted thirty seconds? Why? Because I got it for my European friend who had an american plug but European voltage. She threw it out shortly after that, nobody was able to repair it.
September 6, 2008 Disapointing Never mention in the information showed if this product was 110 v or 220 v. Very poor information. Now the product is useless for me
July 25, 2008 ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!! THIS IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE ITEMS WE HAVE PURCHASED SINCE HAVING OUR SECOND CHILD. THE WARMER IS GREAT!!! WE PUT THE BOTTLE IN STRAIGHT FROM THE FRIDGE, AND ONCE WE HAVE HIS DIAPER CHANGED AND OUR HANDS WASHED,, THE BOTTLE IS READY. OF COURSE, AS HE'S GROWING AND NEEDS MORE FORMULA, THE WAIT IS A LITTLE LONGER FOR THE BOTTLE TO WARM UP,,,, BUT STILL ONLY A MATTER OF A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND WAY BETTER THAN ANY OTHER METHOD WE HAVE TRIED!!!! THIS PRODUCT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY OUR HOUSEHOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 27, 2008 Undependable and frustrating to use I was optimistic when I purchased this bottle warmer. At first, it seemed frustrating to use, but I kept trying. The buttons on the front took some time to figure out - not user friendly enough where you could have someone use the warmer without instructions, which I found absurd for a seemingly simple appliance item. Once I read the instructions and learned what the symbols meant, it was equally difficult to get it to work. Once I DID get it to work (be sure to snap close and add the proper amounts of water - this varies depending on the day) the warmer would then just go on the fritz and stop working. I am so aggravated with it, I want to just toss the whole thing and buy a different warmer. Warming baby bottles shouldn't be such a frustrating task when you're in the midst of taking care of your infant and thinking about other more important things. Do yourself a favor and avoid this warmer.
June 21, 2008 Could be better. This bottle warmer doesn't do a great job. But it does get the milk close to the temperature I want so it isn't horrible. I would expect it to do much better considering how much it is. I like that it has auto-off, so if I am too busy and forget to turn it off it is no big deal. It fits all kinds of bottles. I have even warmed my medula breast milk bags in it and it worked fine. Its faster than putting it under some water in the sink! If I had it to do over again I wouldn't buy it. I would get one of the cheap ones.
