This baby bottle sterilizer gets the job done right. Dishwashers just don't get hot enough to eliminate harmful bacteria. But the Avent iQ 24 Steam Sterilizer reaches the recommended temperature of 212 F for fast, easy, and reliable steam sterilization. Its six-minute cycle will have bottles ready in no time, and its digital display, electronic countdown, and sound alerts let you know when it's done. It can accommodate up to six 9-ounce bottles, and can also be used for the washable components of your breast pump.
User Submitted Philips Avent iQ24 Sterilizer with 2 Bottles, 9 oz Reviews November 22, 2008 My work horse I LOVE this product. I use it all day and all night to sterilize my bottles, nipples and breast pump accessories. I have never had one issue with it and I could not live without it. I'm a hard person to please but this product is amazing. Boiling everything took too much time and I hate the way the dishwasher makes everything smell. This little machine answered my sterilizing prayers.
September 16, 2008 Nice unit Product works as great as is advertised. Easy to set up and simple to use. I like the feature that allows you to leave bottles in the unit and keeps them sterile for hours.
September 8, 2008 Bottle sterilizer We bought this for our son's family use. His wife said it was posh since it was so totally automatic and easy to use.
September 6, 2008 Important "Phased Out Item. DO NOT BUY! Philips Avent iQ 24 is a great product but this model has Bisphenol A commonly abbreviated as BPA. It has been proven medically that this has acute toxicity. It leads to physiological effects on the body. You do not want it for your child. It has already been banned in various countries.
Philips has replaced this product with BPA free model (manufactured in England). You need to look for BPA Free Philips Avent iQ 24 and avoid this.......
August 27, 2008 Happy with product but not with Amazon Thank God the sterilizer is easy to use! When I got the shipment, it lacked a user manual, warranty card and citric acid sachets that come with the package! talk about efficiency of ordering via Amazon!
August 26, 2008 perfect! Absolutely perfect product for those first weeks after arrival of your baby. No need for pots, boiling water on the stove top...etc. Just toss your items, pour desired amount of water and push the button. Return to it later when you have time! Highly reccomended.
August 25, 2008 Simple and easy to use I got this from Amazon at an amazing price. It works great . Its simple and easy to use and gives you a piece of mind knowing that your baby's things are sterilized
August 25, 2008 Works perfectly with Born Free bottles as well The sterilizer fits 6 BPA free Born Free bottles and their associated accoutrements (nipples, rings, caps, valves). It works flawlessly thusfar!
August 14, 2008 Excellent. Time Saver. It is time saver for us. It takes only 6 minutes to sterilize and can accommodate lots of items at once. We really like it and would recommend to everyone. It is more expensive than microwave varieties but i wouldn't use microwave for my kid.
August 14, 2008 Great Product but doesn't sanitize toys pacifier holders etc. I can't think of anything bad to say about the product itself in terms of how it functions etc. It is fairly straight forward to use and it served me well when I was sanitizing scores of bottles and pacifiers upon their initial purchase.
The way it works is you put the stuff you want to sanitize (bottles and/or their accessories and/or pacifiers) into the huge bin. They have a way to support bottles but I never used the mechanism because I used Dr. Brown's bottles and the bottle support mechanism only works with Avent bottles. So I just threw my Dr. Brown's bottles and accessories and pacifiers into the bin. Measured out 90 mL of water (measuring cup is included) put the lid on the thing, plugged it in, and pressed the button so that number 1 was selected (I never used the 24 hour sterilize option, for which one would select number 2). Then I released the button, pressed again (until the display would indicate that it was working), and that is it. When the unit is finished it will beep 5 times, and then you carefully remove the cap and wait for the items to cool. After you remove the contents, be sure to empty the water that remains in the unit, so that next time you can use it without worrying about dumping the water after you've loaded up the unit. All in all it's very easy. (See my comment in the end about the water.)
I definitely think this product is better than the microwave versions, which are cheaper but which I believe are a bit disgusting and risky for the baby. (Risky because we don't really know how the microwave affects the baby, and disgusting because one can never really disinfect the microwave properly.)
However, I must say that the product is useless now, which is why I gave it one star. I tried to use it to sterilize the MAM pacifier holder and it melted it. That is when I realized that the steam is too strong for most plastic toys etc and even if the steam doesn't destroy the product, heating it to such a degree may cause the baby harm (the heat may cause a chemical reaction that was not intended by the manufacturer when they designed the product).
I realize that what I should have bought was the Germ Guardian Nursery Sanitizer. It's cheaper than the Avent one and it can sanitize pacifiers, toys, and bottles. It's really a wiser choice in the long run. Now The Avent Sterilizer is just taking up space (it's rather large) in my kitchen cabinet.
And as the baby gets older, it ends up throwing almost everything on the floor, so I end up throwing all sorts of toys (even electronic ones) into the laundry, which takes time and deprives our baby of her toys.
If someone does decide to purchase this item, I suggest using DISTILLED water. If you use regular water (even bottled) there is a residue that remains in the unit (and it is better for the unit in the long run).
