Love the pouch
We used the hip hammock for our daughter from about 10 months until 19 months, and it has been a great experience for all of us, Mom, Dad and Baby. She is just now getting too big for it at 33" tall and 28 pounds. I find that I hit her legs with mine as I try to walk, and I get the feeling she is a little uncomfortable being squeezed in. Up until now it was so nice to have an extra hand free when you needed it. She was always very calm in the pouch, not fidgeting like other times when I carry her or in the cart or stroller. The best part was feeling so close to her when we were out and about. I didn't have to worry about her in a cart or stroller while grocery shopping, she was right there with me.

I also noticed that people seemed to go out of their way to help me (hold the door, get an out-of-reach item at the store) while she was in the pack. Plus, lots of smiles from the older folk!

Love this!
This is great for whenever but especially when your baby is sick and wants to be on you every second of the day or when your shopping and baby gets fussy.

not worth the time or hassle
my child is only 20 lbs and it doesn't save your back. It is cubersome to put on and remove. My daughter screams at the sight of it. My suggestion is to get an umbrella stroller or just carry them.

Great Product! Easy to use.
This is a terrific -- much easier to use and more comfortable than the front carriers. Only complaint is if you wear the shoulder strap as they show in the picture, when you raise that arm the strap shifts up closer to your neck, so it's just easier to leave it there.

So glad I found this carrier
My almost 10-month old daughter loves to be carried, but as she's gotten bigger, carrying her has gotten a bit more difficult. When she was little, she loved the Snugli, but now hates it (too confining, I guess). I tried her out in a sling, but she hated that too. Then I remembered the Hip Hammock...

I've had this for less than a week but it's come in quite handy several times already. Once you get the hang of it and get the straps adjusted to your preference, it's really easy to use. I can unroll it, snap it around my waist and get my daughter settled in it in less than a minute. When I'm in a hurry and not wanting to deal with a stroller or shopping cart, this Hip Hammock is a lifesaver. I plan to carry it around with us wherever we go, and anticipate using it at an upcoming wedding to help keep the 10-month old happy and somewhat quiet while sparing my back and left arm a bit.

As a side note, I have the deluxe version as opposed to the regular version. From what I've read online, the overall design and concept is the same, however, so what I've said about my deluxe version can apply to the regular version.

Two years of use ... and counting
My kids are close together and I love this thing. I bought this when our first was 8 mo. old and now our second is 18 mo. old (30+ lbs.) and I'm still using it!

What I like about this product:

- Rolls up small. I keep it in the car.
- EASY to put on and take off.
- Fit my waist fully pregnant with second child (I was big!) and now back at my normal size 8.
- Saved my back and hips lots of strain.
- Great for shopping when the cart has lost it's luster.
- Comfortable for me and babies for times under an hour.
- I can push a cart with it on and use my hands.
- Still looks new.
- Toy hook.
- Cuddly.

What else to expect:
- For longer times, it starts to weigh on your shoulder. Good for shopping or walking short distances, not meant for hiking.

Finally Found The Perfect Carrier!!
I read all sorts of online reviews, talked to friends, asked the members of my favorite parenting message board, and the Hip Hammock kept coming out on top. Make sure you get the newer version, which cups the shoulder instead of going around the wearer's neck.

I, too, used a Baby Bjorn-type carrier when our son was a small infant (and loved it), but now that he's 16 months and 23 pounds, it simply doesn't work anymore. The Hip Hammock has been a great solution.

My biggest concern was -- Is it easy to put on and take off when I'm alone? A resounding YES! I could use a lot of other slings and carriers out there, but it always required a second person to get it right. With the Hip Hammock, you just strap the carrier around your waist with the inside of the back support facing out. Then, lift your child onto your hip like you would normally carry him/her. Finally, pull the shoulder strap over your child and yourself, and pull the front strap to tighten the shoulder strap. To take it off, support your child while you loosen the front strap (easy with one hand), and pull it back over the two of you.

We like to hike, but we've learned that trail maps and reviews don't always describe the trails well, and we found ourselves struggling to get our stroller up rocky, steep slopes. With the hip hammock, we're able to comfortably carry our son for long periods, and he feels snug and secure against our bodies while we hike. (Notice I say "we" and "our" because Daddy likes it too!)

I keep the Hip Hammock in the car because I also use it for quick trips to the grocery store, into the second-hand baby store (where the aisles are narrow) and anywhere else we want to go and I don't want to drag out the stroller. We even use it for an afternoon walk around our neighborhood.

Our son likes it too. When he isn't feeling well, he wants to be carried a lot, and the Hip Hammock lets me carry him while I'm doing dishes, laundry, etc. Like another reviewer, he often falls asleep in it too.

The key clip and toy holders are added bonuses that make the Hip Hammock that much more functional.

Definitely a good purchase. You won't regret it! Compared to MUCH pricier slings and carriers (can you believe what they charge for a square of cloth with four scarves on the corners?!?), this one is still superior.

Twins and flying
My husband and I purchased 2 of these to go on vacation with our 1 year old twins and 3 year old son. We were originally going to put the girls in individual umbrella strollers to go through the airport, but with three kids it was then, one more thing to carry when it was time to board the plane. I first purchased one to try it out and wore it everyday for 6 weeks and did not experience any pain and my girls loved it. The only complaint that I have is that the staps need a little more adjustment, I am an average person and they didn't go quite small enough for me, and my daughters are tall and thin, but they seem to feel secure!! Great product for the money!!

This is bad for your neck
I tried adjusting it many times and followed the directions but there is no way to take the pressure off the neck. My baby is big at 20+ pounds and this thing was torture. The neck strap has a pad on it but once it twists (which it does frequently and quickly)you have bare strap cutting into your neck. It feels like your blood supply is being cut off. Please dont buy this product unless you have a lot of percocets on hand.

Does the job
Needing something to help keep my hands free while holding my daughter (9 mos, 20 lbs, 29 inches long), I purchased the Playtex Hip Hammock. For $29, it does the job. Despite the shoulder strap being padded, it does dig after awhile, but as the instructions state, if I hug my daughter or sit down, the tension eases. I wouldn't recommend wearing it for hours on end, but to walk the dog, run into the store, etc., the hip hammock works.

The interior fleece lining does get warm, but for the most part, my daughter is happy riding in the hammock.

I tried the "new and improved" version which is just out in the stores. Playtex redesigned the shoulder strap by taking away the padding and putting in a "contoured" should strap that is supposed to lie on the ball of the shoulder, further down on the arm (so not on your neck, but more on the area where your shoulder and arm meet). I DID NOT LIKE this redesign: the strap wouldn't stay on the ball of my shoulder, it bunches my clothing, and cuts ciirculation to my arm. Also, and more importantly, it inhibits movement of the arm-- I couldn't raise my arm.

In all, the orginal design for the shoulder strap works better and for $29 the hammock will work without breaking your bank account.
