The Playtex VentAire bottle helps reduce gas and colic. The patented bottle lets parents feed their baby virtually bubble-free. The leak-proof vent lets air in through the bottom of the bottle versus at the nipple like other bottles, so there are virtually no bubbles for your baby to swallow. That means less gas, colic or spitting up, and its angled shape promotes the semi-upright feeding position recommended by pediatricians to help prevent ear infections. The VentAire bottle is also easy to clean because top and bottom are removable and the vent is one piece. Wash by hand or in the dishwasher. The VentAire Standard Bubble-Free Bottle System is perfect for bottle-feeding babies. Bottles are available in 6oz and 9oz sizes, and in assorted colors.

Unnecessary
I was trying to get a Playtex bottle/nurser that didn't require liners, since the liners seemed like another unnecessary expense, but my baby liked the Playtex natural rubber nipple. However, I found these bottles confusing and the added features completely useless. They require a silicon nipple, and my baby couldn't get a good suck on it. It might be good for other babies, but not mine. I'm going to keep them around and try it out on her again, but I don't have high hopes for this bottle.

Mind your fingers!!!!!!
Hi all,
I wouldn't rate a product so low in the face of 139 great reviews. But this is when things go very wrong :(. I bought a 3-pack of this product and while trying to hand-wash them , cut my finger . Calling customer service was worse!!! Ask for the supervisor and she didn't even cut it for a rep!!!! She forced me to choose between coupons and a refund only after returning the bottles, not fair!!!! Somewhere on amazon, I read evenflo customer service was so nice, replacing bottles and everything...
I would strongly recommend checking the bottles before washing or using them..horrible molding!!!! Avent ones are so smooth to handle...not a rough spot..What's wrong with Energizer Customer Care???!!!!

horrible horrible -- leaks after a few washings
One of the biggest sources of my frustration after having a baby is just when I start feeding a hungry baby his milk, the bottle pours out over half of it all over a clean baby -- wasting breastmilk or formula, getting a clean baby dirty, his shirt all wet, and making him cry horribly because I have to pull the bottle away -- the bottles worked great for the first month I had them (I bought about 5 because I liked them) -- but now they are warped and the tops don't fit properly on I feel like I want my money back -- it's so frustrating to go to feed your baby and end up pouring the milk all over him.

Hold your horses
We bought these bottles for our infant daughter also hoping that it will help prevent spit ups. She didn't like it as it was difficult to suck on.

And don't even try using other brands of nipples with these bottles as they won't work. Here's why. Most bottles that have only one open end have 2 holes on the nipples, 1 at the tip and 1 on the base of the nipple for drawing air into the bottle. (And I'd thought it was air from my baby while sucking). These Playtex ones have only 1 hole for letting milk out at the tip of the nipple and at the bottom of the bottle is where dozens of holes are to draw air to compensate the vacuum inside the bottle.

My 18 month old is now using these as she hated them months ago.

My biggest complain is cleaning them. I have one of those special clean tools that's a brush with a sponge at the end. The design of the bottle at the area where you screw the caps is especially hard to clean without something small like a toothbrush as residue traps inside the bottle at this area.

Overall, aside from cleaning it it's a great product.

Use some common sense. Get these bottles.
Folks, any bottle will leak if you don't seal it properly.

We used the narrow VentAire bottles on our first child, and are now using the wide ones on our second. The only time we've ever had a leak was when we didn't screw on the bottom properly. It's not rocket science.

Some folks say these have a "lot of parts", or are hard to assemble. Bottle, top, bottom, disc and nipple. It's not like assembling a radio from a pile of transistors and a soldering iron. You want a bottle that's hard to assemble? Get a Dr. Brown's. Or try the Evenflow Elan -- I dare you to get the nipple in the ring on your first try.

Go to Target. Get a couple of the baskets for the parts (the kind that the nipples go in the top). Don't overfill the baskets. Put them in the top rack of the dishwasher along with the bottle itself. Wash them, be happy.

These bottles are great at preventing a vacuum from forming in the bottle, reducing the amount of gas that baby receives. Of course, your baby will get SOME gas and will still need to be burped, but it's a whole lot less.

Great Bottles!
Would recommend.....clean great, work well as long as they are screwed together properly.

Too difficult for a newborn to suck.....no good for the first month at least.
Initially, I thought these angled bottles make a lot of sense so I put different sizes into our registry. However, when our baby girl (1 week old) first tried to suck the milk out from the bottle, it did not come out. My husband had activated the vent and did everything according to the instructions. He thought the holes were not big enough since he did not see any on the nipple, so he put more holes on them but still nothing came out. He finally found out the way that these bottles work are not the same as a traditionally bottle does. The hole will not open unless pressure is applied against it and hole will get sealed back again when released. Baby has to use their tongue to push against the nipples in order to open up the hole. For a newborn infant, it is too difficult for them to figure out how to get the milk out especially if you are bottle feeding only. Luckily we had two Avent bottles (with the traditionally hole idea) so she is doing very well with the Avent bottles and she still loves them a lot. We ended up returning the unused VentAir bottles and got a lots of AVENT bottles but still stuck with the opened ones. I do not recommend these 'difficult' bottles for newborn. Baby should not need to 'think' how to get the milk out.

For leaking problem, we do not have any issue with the Avent bottles. When it leaks, it is usually because the nipples have not been properly placed (push all the way though the ring) or the ring has not been tightly screwed. We also found out if you use a warmer to warm the bottle, you have to unscrew the ring once and screw it all tight again after the warmer. It is because the theory of heat with expense the plastic bottle which creates a gap between the ring, nipples and the bottle neck. This works 99% for us with no leak.

We are the fans of the AVENT bottles.

These are my favorite bottles so far but......
First let me say that I have tried many different bottles.

When my first child was born a few years ago, I used Advent bottles. I didn't like the straight shape, although cleaning was easier and I loved the wide neck. Unfortunately if you don't screw the top on just right on those things - whammo - formula/breast milk/juice all over you and your close neighbors! (I don't even want to mention what this can mean when you are sitting on an airplane). And let me just say that I could never quite figure out when this was going to happen. There was absolutlely NO indication that the top was not on correctly. It looked right. It felt right. After being completely disgusted with the unpredictability of those, I switched to a bent-necked J&J bottle that is no longer being made. I liked those, but hated cleaning the narrow bottle - it never seemed to GET clean.

With my next child, I chose the playtex ventaire natural shape. There are several things I love about them:

1. Wide bottles are a MUST for ease of cleaning. You don't even need a special brush which is nice when you are travelling/camping/backpacking

2. I agree with some other reviewers that having all those separate pieces actually makes cleaning easier and as long as you have a little dishwasher cage to collect them all it's not a big deal.

3. The crook-neck design is great for the carseat/stroller/whatever.

What I hate about these bottles:

1. What's with the cover? Can anyone else get them to stay on? I simply abandoned them completely after wrestling with them for a few weeks with no luck

2. They do leak sometimes. It has only happened a few times but when it does - Yikes! Another reviewer mentioned a slow leak that happens over time in your car/diaper bag and that has definitely happened to me. Perhaps only 10 times in the year and a half I've been using them, but STILL annoying. and MESSY and what happens when you only brought that one bottle and there it has spilled all over the floor of your car?

3. After about 11 months of use, all of the bottles started cracking in the dishwasher and they all had to be thrown away and replaced. Which come to think of it could have coincided with the slow leak issue...Now we just put the bottles on the upper rack (was this in the instructions to begin with?) and haven't had a problem yet (been about 6 months).

4. My son bites through the nipples and I have trouble finding replacements. Babies R Us is the only store around that carries the nipples (not Target, not the Grocery store) and then playtex has so many designs, it's tough to figure out which one you really need. Made all the more challenging by screaming baby and impatient 5 year old. Right now I am frantically searching the internet for suppliers as BabiesRus is out of stock and I only have 4 functioning nipples.

With all of that said...I really love the concept and wish they would solve their quality and availibility issues.

Beware! These bottles leak
Great bottles, but they leak. And you have to get the rubber "gasket" in just right to make sure that the bottom doesn't leak. Also, there are many little parts to wash. Good side is, they do decrease the amount of air that enters your little one's stomach. And the nipples are great. It will not cause nipple confusion if you're breast feeding. The ergonomic shape is great.

These bottles are GREAT! BUT...
With the exception of one (fixable) issue, I love these bottles. My baby doesn't have as many gas/spit up issues with these, and the nipples don't leak, as some others do (quite annoyingly, I might add). Like some others have noted, at first nothing would come through the nipples. I sterilized a safety pin, by boiling it, and carefully poked it through the hole of the nipple. voila! No more problem!
