User Submitted A Christmas Carol Reviews November 8, 2008 A Must for Christmas Lovers Patrick Stewart is the PERFECT Scrooge. I own this version and watch it every single year. It never gets old. It's one of the best "A Christmas Carol"'s I have seen. It always puts me in the Christmas spirit. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Christmas movies. It's a perfect movie to watch over Thanksgiving weekend to get yourself in the spirit.
October 23, 2008 A wonderful version of a classic. Patrick Stewart is masterful as Scrooge. Stewart's Scrooge is rich and true to the written story. In addition, Stewart is supported by a wonderful cast including Ian McNeice as Fezziwig, Richard Grant as Bob Cratchit and Saskia Reeves as Mrs. Cratchit. Although relatively minor characters in the story, McNeice, Grant and Reeves are perfectly cast and enrich the production. In particular, I found Saskia Reeves' Mrs. Cratchit to be absolutely wonderful. She played the part so beautifully that she WAS Mrs. Cratchit. I have seen many productions of the story, but Reeves' Mrs. Cratchit was the best. Richard Grant was a first class Bob Cratchit and Ian McNeice gave a sterling portrayal of "old Fezziwig." Of course, many have noted the quality Joel Gray's Ghost of Christmas Past and he was excellent in the part. With the support of such excellent actors, and a first class production...costumes, sets, etc., this was a wonderful version of a classic tale. Stewart is a great Scrooge and in my opinion, this version of Dickens' story is one of the very finest every produced.
September 18, 2008 Most accurate, awesome movie! This movie was the closest Ive seen in comparison with the book. I love this famous Christmas story, and since there are so many different variations out there, I couldn't help but read the book. I was very impressed with how close this was with the book. I really love this version.
February 17, 2008 Another Retelling? I was leery of another retelling of a classic that i have enjoyed on the stage and yet I was stunned by what i saw.
Patrick Stewart IS Scrooge, his long time experience in a one man show has perfected his Scrooge down to the gruff bah humbug and the rusty old man cackle. Pure Enjoyment is as close to how i feel about this movie.
Not since the theater days have i found a Scrooge worthy of the part and here is one that shines above all others.
February 9, 2008 Patrick Stewart Shines Patrick Stewart shines in this faithful adaptation of the Dickson's classic. Stewart has a great supporting cast, especially in Bob Cratchit and family. But for the multi-talented Stewart, this is a tour-de-force. Whether you're a Patrick Stewart fan (and who isn't?) or a Christmas Carol fan, this movie is a must.
January 23, 2008 A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge I have been a fan of the Alastair Sim 1951 version of A Christmas Carol for many years. It is a family tradition to watch it on Christmas Eve to get in the 'spirit'. I decided to purchase the Patrick Stewart 1999 version just to see if the movie could have been improved upon. IT HAS!! I like the concept of a younger Scrooge who really has a chance to improve his life and the lives of those around him through learning the meaning of Christmas simply because he will have more time to do something about it. Stewart's Scrooge is at least 10-15 years younger than the Sim character. A very enjoyable update on a classic movie.
January 12, 2008 A Great Version! In my opinion, after the 1951 Alistair Sim version, this is next one of the best interpretations of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." Patrick Stewart plays a wonderful Ebeneezer Scrooge, and the supporting cast is equally good. A "must have" for the true "A Christmas Carol" connoisseur.
January 9, 2008 Christmas In comparsion to the Alastair Sim & George C.Scott's versions of this Classic Christmas Movie this only has clever special effects with good not excellant acting .
January 3, 2008 Great casting! Patrick Stewart was the perfect Scrooge! This version of the story was perfectly cast.
January 2, 2008 Not the best, but definitely worth having. If you sat down and compared all the aspects of this movie to others, you'd find lots of things that were done better in other versions, such as Alistair Sim and George C. Scott. But if you just sit down and enjoy it, you will be rewarded. There are several things in here from the book that weren't done in other versions. And Stewart's acting is great, as always. It definitely holds it's own with the other versions. My one complaint, the ghost of Christmas yet to come looks like an oversize jawa.
