Disappointed
My daughter was bored by this one. It just didn't seem to flow like some of the other Baby Einstein videos. Also, the music didn't seems especially Christmas-y or festive. I would not recommend this one. Buy Baby Mozart, the First Moves or First Signs videos instead.

American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television under age of two years!
The name "Baby Einstein" can lull you into thinking it's okay or even good for babies to watch t.v., but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television at all to children under 2 because so many studies have proven its harmful effects on children. Studies have shown that:

- for every hour of television a baby watches a day, their chances of acquiring an attention deficit disorder increases by 10%.
- among babies ages 8 months to 16 months, every hour spent daily watching programs such as 'Brainy Baby' or 'Baby Einstein' translated into six to eight fewer words in their vocabularies as compared with other children their age."
- brain wave activity in babies is slower when watching television than when sleeping.

I believe television should be used SPARINGLY and with caution, and without any delusions of it increasing baby's intelligence. As for making them more intelligent, Dr. William Sears says, "relationships, not things, make babies smarter." The easiest way to make babies smarter and calmer is to carry them a lot. Slings, pouches and carriers help make this more manageable. Studies have shown that:

- carrying babies an extra 3 hours a day resulted in 40% less crying.

Babies who are frequently carried are proven to pick up verbal skills faster, and develop better core muscle strength and balance. My Listmania list "Natural Parenting for Baby's First Year" has more information on babywearing, or you can google "babywearing" or "television and baby studies" for your own research.

Crown Crafts The Original NoJo BabySling by Dr. Sears - Black Chambray is a great starter sling.

Finally, I'd suggest "SIGNING TIME" videos - not to be confused with "Baby Signing Time" - as a last resort for OCCASIONAL viewing instead of other baby videos because at least baby can learn sign language. Communicating in sign language is proven to:

- reduce frustration and tantrums
- accelerate language development
- promote parent-child bonding

I found the entire series at my local library. I especially liked Signing Time! Volume 4: Family, Feelings & Fun DVD and 'naming' feelings also increases emotional intelligence in babies.

A Delight!
We originally found Baby Santa after our son's first Christmas... but bought it anyway, as we were afraid we would not be able to find it again. We played it for him for his second Christmas, and while he was older than the usual ages for these videos- it was a great way to introduce him to the sights and sounds of the season. This year was our daughter's first Christmas and I started playing the DVD in November for her. Like her brother before her, she loved the Baby einstein series- particularly Baby Mozart and Baby Santa was certainly no exception to the rule. She's 9 months old- and sat quietly watching the video- with her 3 year-old brother at her side- pointing out things to her and interacting with her and "teaching" her about Christmas. Whoever said this video was a disappointment was not looking close enough... These videos are meant to be seen through a child's eyes... and my children loved it.

The baby loves it. We watch it together. I laugh because she laughs at different parts. Great for anytime of year.

WONDERFUL Baby Einstein DVD's
Grandson has ALL the Baby Einstein DVD's. Although I purchased in April, he saw it advertised on one of his other DVD's and kept asking for this Christmas DVD. He has learned SO much. At 4 years old, he can recite the alphabet BACKWARDS. All babies should be introduced to the Baby Einstein DVD's. Brady watches all of his Baby Einstein DVD's over and over and over.....

Baby Santa is a MUST for your children's DVD Library
We have the entire Baby Einstein set...and this DVD was repurchased by us so that we could have a copy in two places...

Our children absolutely adore the sweet scenes of Christmas, with the wonderful renditions of holiday music accompanying the puppet scenes.

Our children also love to see other children on screen, as they dance and sing along to the music and the puppets.

Highly recommended as are all the Baby Einstein videos. Enjoy!

Christmas All Year Long
I didn't open this dvd for months just because it was a christmas dvd. One day when my son was particularly fussy, I popped it in, and it has been his favorite Baby Einstein dvd yet. He loves it more than the rest, so it has been baby einstein christmas year round for us.

Happy Baby Holidays!
Baby Einstein's Baby Santa's Music Box
One of the earlier releases in the now popular Baby Einstein video series, Baby Santa's Music Box is an unpolished version of the wonderful videos to come later in the collection. Relying more on music and visuals as the sole entertainment than some of the others, Baby Santa began the formula of the Baby Bach and Baby Beethoven videos with stimulating visuals set to music. Unlike the more advanced videos in the Baby Einstein series designed for older babies and toddlers, this one is entirely non-verbal and will appeal to infants as young as one month of age. Visuals rely heavily on the Baby Einstein Puppets albeit the earlier versions, visuals of ornaments and Christmas decorationas, animals playing in the snow, and lots and lots of children. The soundtack is holiday instrumental musical tunes from different countries around the world such as England, Ireland, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, and the United States yet all rendered in similar orchestration by the Baby Einstein Music Box Orchestra. Appropriate for ages 1 month and up, the simplicity of the video combined with some more engaging puppet visuals will likely entertain your baby until around the 18th month. The video is short, but you have the option to "repeat play" as well as play the music without the video.

Like most of the other videos in the Baby Einstein series, this one is designed as a `video board book' for your baby and offers you the opportunity to interact with your child in the same way you do with books as well as act as a distraction for that deeply needed parental bathroom break. Most of the DVDs in the series have the option to "play" or "repeat play" and are about 20-30 minutes in length -- the repetition being very stimulating and comforting to the younger set.

While I don't think viewing Baby Einstein DVDs will make my infant "smarter" she sure does enjoy them! They give me a great way to interact with her as well as a few minutes here and there to get a few things done around the house. Their ability to calm her when she's fussy is already legendary in our household.

Here is information on all the current 21 Baby Einstein DVDs including suggested times to introduce them to your little one. This information IS NOT available with the DVD sets but I gleaned it from several sources for my own use. You may like to print this out for future reference.

Note: All the Baby Einstein DVDs are "region 1" which means they only play on machines in the U.S. and Canada.
