Very Little Spanish Teaching
I bought this due to the good reviews here and was very disappointed. This video is a montage of images -- puppies, flowers, wooden toys -- and does not teach anything. If you want a video that's basically a collage of unrelated items parading across the screen, then you'll like it. If you want your child to learn something, then the Sesame Street in Spanish or The Whistlefritz DVDs are a better buy. I'm donating Do Re Mi Nino to Goodwill.

Happy mom
I bought this DVD three weeks ago and my daughter watches it every day. She absolutely loves it. As soon as I pop in this DVD, my baby is captivated from start to finish. It is very entertaining and educational. This DVD was exactly what I was looking for on my quest to teaching my baby all three of the languages I speak. I highly recommend it.

Excellent dvd series
My cousin got a DVD by "A la vivora de la mar", Los colores de Rufino, as a joke and we ended up taking it as our son loved it. These videos are well done, with traditional Spanish songs and a lot of cultural references, which other DVDs don't have.
Son excelentes videos para asegurarnos que nuestro hijo este expuesto desde temprano a aspectos culturales latinoamericanos.

A must have DVD for babies under 3!
First all all, I have to say that I write a column reviewing DVDs and CDs for babies and kids in a small monthly publication. As you can imagine: I've seen them all!

The A la Vibora de la Mar series truly stands apart in every sense: the beautiful images, the soothing music, the catchy songs, the engaging sound effects, the poems and rhymes... every little detail in these videos reveals a high quality production (this, sadly, can not be said for many DVDs in this category). They also expose a deep understanding of how babies learn.

I decided to write this review (my first one for Amazon) only because I am convinced that there should be at least one of the A la Víbora de la Mar titles in every household with babies under 3! (My enthusiasm comes not only from my research, but also from using this series with my own child).

Fortunately for babies, these DVDs do not intend to constitute a traditional foreign language program. (Do not expect the "pollito-chicken" structure or the tedious repetition of words and phrases...) And this is just great! Babies do not need language courses!! At this age, their brain is biologically prepared to grasp language NATURALLY... Anything else, may actually become more of a hindrance in his language-acquisition process. The best way to teach your baby a foreign language (whether you speak it, or not) is to expose her constantly to the SOUNDS of that language as early as possible, hopefully before they are 3 (optimal: before they turn 1!).

I can not emphasize strongly enough how important this is. It actually constitutes the "trick" in language learning. Vocabulary and grammar can be grasped at any age: there is not a big time-constraint for this: as adults, we continue to learn new words and we can easily learn or correct a grammatical structure... This is not the case with SOUNDS. If we were not exposed constantly, as infants, to the sounds of a foreign language, we may never be able to reproduce them (or even "hear" them... thus our impediment to reproduce those sound).

So it doesn't matter if you as a parent do not understand what is being said (babies who watch a DVD at an early age, do not understand what is being said in their own language either... it just doesn't matter). What matters is that the complete inventory of Spanish sounds is presented throughout the DO RE MI NIÑO DVD, embedded in song and rhyme, not in isolated words and phrases, which, alone, do not help much during this stage. Furthermore, the sounds of Spanish in this whole series are presented in the type of speech to which infants respond best: melodic, soothing, rhythmic, using "parenthese" strategies, and just a tiny bit high pitched... The DVD makes use of repetition as a learning tool, but in a nice pleasant way that is never boring.

Another plus: it is entirely in Spanish. This is completely desirable in foreign language videos for this age range (babies 0-3). Needless to say, only native speakers are involved.

Also from this series: Los Colores de Rufino and 123 Cuentame un Cuento

very stimulating for our baby
I received as a present the complete collection of A LA VIBORA DE LA MAR, and started with Aprendiendo Tempranito (2 to 24 months) followed by Do Re Mi Niño (6 to 24 months). Our baby is 6 months old and I have to say he absolutely loves them!!
Right from the start our baby responded to the images and music with a lot of attention and grateful surprise: he smiles, "talks" back, and kicks his legs in great approval... my husband and I have such a wonderful time just watching our baby enjoy the video, and the lyrics are so beautiful that we keep singing to him throughout the day!
It is quite evident that these videos are created for a specific age group, so I can't wait till our baby is ready for the other ones...

not so happy with this dvd
please see my review on the 'cuentame' dvd in this series. do not purchase this dvd unless you are native spanish, not just fluently speaking/conversational, because even YOU as an adult would be lost to the story line in this kid's dvd. speak too fast, and no clear words used, all rambled together and no words on screen to help.

My baby loves DO RE MI Niño... and so do I!
I discovered the A LA VIBORA DE LA MAR series when I received 123 CUENTAME UN CUENTO as a present for my newborn baby. A total delight! After that, of course, I bought the whole series, including this one. They are all beautiful, and involve a lot of language. The songs are catchy, yet soothing, the images are beautiful, the sound effects engaging...

One thing has to be said: these are full immersion DVDs, originally designed for Spanish speaking babies. Do not expect a Spanish course. However, I am convinced that this is way more usefull in terms of exposing little ones to the sounds of Spanish from early on. We have discovered that this helps immensely afterwards in terms of developing an "ear" for the language. (Needless to say, only native speakers are involved in this series).

I highly recommend every title in this collection for babies 0-4 years of age: great for hispanic families who will enjoy nursery rhymes from their heritage, and for non hispanics who wish to introduce their babies to the sounds of Spanish and to real Latin American culture.

PS: LOS COLORES DE RUFINO is our favorite one at the moment!

Not what I expected
I had expected this entire series of DVDs to be a thorough exposure to Spanish for children, but I was disappointed; not only was the Spanish not clearly articulated, my kids just didn't relate to the videos and lost interest after a few minutes. Nothing stood out.

Do Re Mi Nino
I love this whole series. I've always thought I would be opposed to my child watching T.V. but I was wrong. My husband is from Peru and my spanish is not very good but I want our daughter to be bilingual. These videos are wonderful and we can't stop singing the songs. I'm learnig so much and all of her words are in spanish.

Not so good for non native spanish parents/learners
My 3 1/2 years old son requested that I turn off this Do Re Mi DVD and put "Chiquitita" back after watching Do Re Mi for only 5 minutes. If you are interested in teaching spanish to your kids and you are not a native spanish speaker, I would recommend "Carlos and Chiquitita". Not that I want to bash Do Re Mi, by the way . The reason is simple, I am highly proficient in both written and spoken Spanish- I lived in a spanish speaking country for years and learned a profession in Spanish and making a living rendering services to Hispanics- and I could not hear anything in this DVD that I can repeat back to my children. No translation offered, no subscript in spanish or English. The background music is very pleasant to the ears and that is the only reassuring aspect of this DVD.
Once again, if you are a native spanish speaking parent, this DVD MAY be the one for you and your children. Otherwise, I recommend Carlos and Chiquitita or even Hola Amigos.
