User Submitted Jim Henson's the Storyteller - The Definitive Collection Reviews October 17, 2008 Great for reinforcement! This is a perfect way to reinforce understanding of some of the stories. The quality of the DVD is superb and keeps viewers entertained.
October 3, 2008 Still Incredibly Interesting After All These Years! This is one of those things I vividly remember from childhood that I think all children should be exposed to. The fanciful stories aren't all puppy dogs and rainbows, and I think that's very important for kids to learn. No matter what the story was, there was always a positive note at the end to keep kid's imaginations and hopes alive. The creatures are still just as spooky as they were when I was a child, and the stories are still just as breathtaking as they were. The only difference is that now as an adult, I can truly appreciate the vocabulary.
September 16, 2008 Fabulous! I am keeping all of Jim Henson's Storyteller DVD's for my grandchildren! The series is wonderful, especially with the dog in the each introduction! I love that old stories have been brought to life in such a magical way! Thank you!!!!!
September 1, 2008 A Fantasy Fan's Nostalgic Favorite I remember watching "The Luck Child" over and over on VHS after recording it from TV when I was young and the series had just been released. As a HUGE fantasy fan it was all I could ask for. Many years later, long after the tape had been lost and DVDs had become the commonplace I had never forgot the joy this series had brought me in my youth and after much research found this DVD. This disc is NOT for the people who are looking for flawless animatronics or modern CGI technology... however, if you want delightful stories of myth and fantasy that are told by a witty storyteller and his "fearless" dog by the hearth then buy this today!!
July 6, 2008 Storyteller collection This was a gift for my son's 23rd birthday. His amazed delight upon opening this was, for me, just the best. "Where did you FIND it?!" Jim Henson's Storyteller was possibly his favorite TV show as a small child. Listening to him excitedly describe it to his fiancee made me feel pretty good. This may have been his favorite birthday gift.
July 5, 2008 Still good for nostalgia I got this series of short stories because my kids watched it when they were small, and they loved it. The special effects aren't as fantastic as they are now with CGI, but Henson as always, picked stories based on what they could teach young children--the Aesop of the 20th century. The stories presented are still charming, quaint and teach valuable lessons. There's no question they will enchant another generation.
June 17, 2008 I loved these little short stories as a kid I loved these little short stories as a kid. I got the DVD for my kids. Jody Bissoon
April 28, 2008 jim henson's finest jim henson's legacy has so far not diminished. always innovation and imagination for thought provoking entertainment. The storyteller offers delight and amazon offers an unbelievable price. what fun.
April 18, 2008 A Wonderful collection of Jim Henson's Storyteller The Definite Collection of "Jim Henson's The Storyteller" is really great. It contains both the first and the second season in two dvds.I had seen it on tv when i was a child and i was excited to see it again.I would like to see some extra features to it but i don't complain, it's amazing that i found it on dvd afterall.
April 6, 2008 Storyteller Revisited I remembered seeing this series years ago on TV. The tale I best remembered was "The Soldier and Death". I wasn't sure if this was too much for my four year old to deal with but thought my seven year old would love it. As it turned out they both love it. Especially when my four year old discovered the original tale that Cinderella was written from was included. With the stories being filmed in 1/2 hour segments it makes it perfect for a sit down family show on a weeknight.
