LEARN TO READ WITH PHONICS, VOLUME THREE: SIGHT WORDS/READING AND COUNTING Any child can quickly master the elements of successful reading with the use of Phonics. The Phonics technique is widely recognized by experts as one of the easiest and most effective ways of teaching the fundamentals of reading. With twenty-one years of experience behind her, Certified Reading Specialist Barbara Phipps knows how to make learning to read fun with a little help from her fuzzy friend Snoothy. Sight Words Your children will learn how to remember words by sight, recognize the difference between the past and present tense, and comprehend the concept of opposites. In addition, they will continue to work with blends, contractions, and word families. Easy-to-read stories, filled with humor and repetition, allow young readers to learn by watching other children perform the same tasks. After the stories, questions are presented to help your children review what they have learned. Approximately 43 minutes Color Reading and Counting Mrs. Phipps helps children to sharpen their reading and counting skills with the numbers one through ten. Additionally, Mrs. Phipps teaches children all about colors and how they can be mixed together to form any color of the rainbow. Kids will see how an apostrophe can show possession and can also stand for a letter in a contraction. To top this all off, your children will receive a lesson in good sportsmanship. Approximately 45 minutes Color Snoothy Played by JANE HALL Music and Lyrics Written and Performed by JANE HALL Produced and Directed by TOM KROUTIL A PKH PRODUCTION ?1991 Barbara Phipps
User Submitted Learn to Read With Phonics, Vol. 3: Sight Words/Reading and Counting Reviews November 3, 2007 Unimpressed As a pre-k teacher I am very unimpressed with this DVD and the others in this series. The instruction is SLOW and boring. The one cartoonish character in the series is ok, but doesn't play a big enough role. The teacher is overly methodical and BORING. Furthermore, the producers should have made the class of students more representative of most classrooms in America. I kept looking for any student that wasn't white, but never found one! Of course, I haven't made it past the first couple of lessons on any DVD because they were so boring. Perhaps the lessons get better, but I seriously doubt it!
October 31, 2007 Made in 1991 but looks like 1971 Don't be fooled by other reviews. This video is a poor copy of a VHS into DVD. The picture quality and sounds is terrible. The original recording is from 1991, but the poor quality makes it look like it's from 1971. The teaching can not keep my son's attention for more than a few minutes - and he loves to watch these kind of videos. Don't buy this recycled junk.
September 20, 2006 Great DVD Great product.
I love the interface with a teacher using a writing board and a story book. This gives this dvd the edge over all other phonics dvds.
Thanks
