Great Fun
My Grandaughter thought this was wonderful. We watched six times. She liked the fact that it was a real little girl and would like more Madelines just like this one

Great movie. My daughter loves it! Just as if Madeline had come to life! Frances McDormand is fabulous as Miss Clavel!

MadAboutMadeline!!!!!!
My 4 year old daughter and I watched this movie. Overall, it is wonderful.A point in the movie I disagree with, in the book, Madeline is NOT orphaned. In one book she is at boarding school where her Papa has sent Christmas presents.So..we know she is not a orphan. Also, since the boarding school is near the Eiffel Tower, one would have to assume that Miss Clavel should have an accent, as do most of the actors/actresses in the movie. However, she does not have an accent in the movie. I'm so used to improvising an accent when I read the books to my daughter, Miss Clavel's key line is always sitting up in bed and uttering, "Something is not right" and I like to believe she would say it like this, "Somesing iz not' rright." However, the actress in the movie sounds completely American. She does a nice job, I just wish she would have improv'd an accent. One last thing, when one of the boarding school girls is running around looking for Genevieve, she tells someone that Genevieve is a golden retriever, however the dog actor in the movie is clearly played by a yellow lab. Weird little oddities, but nonetheless noteworthy. Besides picking at this so badly, this movie is completely fun, touching and warm.

Exicting and charming.
My 4yo currently loves this movie, and we've watched it every day for the last few days. I have to agree with another reviewer who commented on one of the early reviews. Apparently, Madeline is the only one of the 12 girls who is an orphan. I got the impression it was a Paris boarding school consisting mostly of students from England. Lord Covington's wife was probably french (Marie Gilbert), but I'm pretty sure he was British. If you grew up with a fascination for boarding school (ie: Facts of Life fan), you'll probably love this movie.

Refreshing!
We have nearly every Disney movie ever made but our
3 1/2 year-old daughter loves this movie more than any other right now. It is one of those "happy" movies that are easy to watch over and over. It contains none of the off-color/adult-humor undertones that many kids movies like Cat-in-the-hat and Shrek have and which I find objectionable for tots. Highly recommend for both girls and boys.

Fun and sweet Madeline movie
My daughter, who is 3 1/2, loves this movie. Moreover, it is fun for adults to watch too. The acting is super, the charters amusing, and young Madeline is so spunky! If your child loves the Madeline books, she/he will adore this movie even more!

High Quality Family Entertainment
Madeline couldn't have been brought to life any better than this
delightful movie. Wonderful casting along with great acting make this a family favorite worthy of being seen over and over.

charming and fun
I grew up loving the "Madeline" books, and as a grown up I enjoyed the film. It had all the charm of the books, translated into today's film format. To my small children this was high drama. To the grownups it was a fun movie. This is one of those whole family films that is so hard to find (ie entertaining to kids without being too stupid for adults to enjoy).

set the record straight.
I am afraid that some of the reviewers have gotten their facts wrong. My daughter is 3 and sometimes we watch it twice in the same day. In this movie, Madeline is an orphan, but the other girls are not. This is made evident in several scenes. Also it must be a school, not an orphanage, since only Madeline is an orphan. Lord Covington is not the principal, he is the owner.

I have not read the books or seen the cartoons, but I am told that some of the storyline is the basis for several of the books. If that is the case, it has been interwoven wonderfully. Since I haven't read the books, I can't tell exactly where one book stops and the next one begins. As a matter of fact, I can't tell how much time elapses from the beginning to the end, other than I don't remember seeing snow, and I am guessing that it snows in Paris in the winter. I am guessing 3 months max and probably in the spring.
