Take your family to Bloom County with the quirky perennial favorite Opus n' Bill in A Wish for Wings That Work, a whimsical, wacky cartoon treat that's as funny for grownups as it is fun for kids! From Pulitzer Prize-winning author-artist Berkeley Breathed, it's a merry, madcap romp with Opus the earthbound penguin and his brain-fried feline cohort, Bill.
Wrestling with an unfulfilled wish to soar through the air like any other self-respecting bird, the plucky penguin decides there's only one person who can make his aeronautic dream come true: Father Christmas. Bill the Cat coughs up a wild idea that just may bring a holiday miracle, but when ol' St. Nick finds himself in hot water on December 24th, the fate of Christmas itself suddenly depends on the kind of heroism that only comes in a penguin-sized package! Will Opus come to the rescue and learn the value of being true to oneself?
User Submitted Opus N' Bill in a Wish for Wings That Work Reviews November 11, 2008 Opus and Bill rule! A Wish for Wings that Work is our family's favorite Christmas movie. This movie is hilarious, and you'll be quoting it forever.
February 11, 2008 Why isn't this a more popular Christmas movie? We love this. It's funny, not too long, and keep you entertained all the way through. I don't know why this isn't more popular. I'd never even heard until a few years ago Fortunately, it was released on DVD and we now own it in DVD! It's the first Christmas special we watch every year. I was never Bloom County fan, but I am a big fan of this DVD.
January 21, 2008 opus and bill wish for wings that work it rocked for anyone who is nostalgic for bloom county its a great gift
January 19, 2008 Video This is a show that was aired only once on network television. We were lucky enough to find it on VHS, and upgraded to DVD this year. It is a must have for all fans of Opus, Bill and the entire gang!!
January 19, 2008 Lobotomy Coupons Is this your typical Rankin Bass holiday special? No. Is it better or worse? Nope, just different. I wore out my VHS copy of this watching this every holiday season. So happy to have it on DVD.
In tradition with Berkley Breathed's writing style, this offers a fabulous collection of old school Bloom County wit. The voice over artist who plays Opus is wonderful and parts still make laugh out loud every time I watch it.
A friend of mine worked on this back in the day. He said that there were tons of problems with several teams of people brought in to put a bow on it. That seems to have translated a bit into the final product. There are a couple of missed gags, but all in a all a very enjoyable venture.
January 18, 2008 OPUS AND BILL A WISH FOR WINGS THAT WORK THE MOVIE IS EXCELLENT, MY SON LOVED IT AS A LITTLE BOY AND NOW HE FINDS IT REALLY FUNNY AT THE AGE OF 17, WAS THE BEST PRESENT HE GOT ,A BLAST FROM THE PAST
January 18, 2008 Opus N' Bill in a Wish for Wings That Work This is a classic movie that was originally released in the 90's on VHS. A must have for any fan of Opus, Bill and Bloom County.
January 15, 2008 For those who really miss Bloom County.... ...this is an awesome tribute to the masterful yet poignantly insane perspectives of Berke Breathed. It is a shame this is the only animated version that was ever produced of these characters, and honestly, I would have preferred a version that was true to the original Bloom County that included Milo, Oliver, Binkley, Steve, HodgePodge, Portnoy, Cutter John, and the rest.
But at least Opus and Bill are here, and IMHO, this tribute does a fantastic job at depicting Opus' compulsive insecurities, profound insights, and elightening monologues without forgetting the pathetic hilarity that is "Bill!"
Also, the disc is well mastered, no fluff, and gets right to the show - though there are no extra materials to enjoy, so it all ends rather quickly. I was also happy they used a full DVD case instead of some of those cheap sleeves or flimsy thin-boxes that are becoming more common.
I would easily have ranked this a 5-star if only it had been about the earlier strips and had more than a half-hour show, but nonetheless, this disc is a must-have for any Bloom County, Opus and Bill fan. Do not pass it up!
January 14, 2008 Opus and Bill ride again! OMG! This is so funny and most didn't know it was out on DVD. It rarely is shown on tv and The copy I have on VHS cut off the ending. Great buy if you're into Bill the cat and Opus.
Robin Williams among others voicing charaters. Great.
January 8, 2008 Outstanding A Wish for Wings that Work is a fantastic holiday movie. My kids watch it again and again each holiday season. And it's got a great message. God gives each of us special talents and abilities. They may not always be what we wanted or hoped for, but if we trust in them they are exactly what we need. Buy this movie and watch it with your kids if you have them. It will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit.
