Big Bird and Telly Monster lead young viewers through the alphabet, letter by letter, in a magical and imaginative half-hour discovery of letters and their sounds. The perfect tape for young Sesame Street fans who are just beginning to get the hang of what letters are all about, it includes short skits, songs, and other bits of business--some original, some culled from the Sesame Street show--featuring a variety of Muppet characters as well as the human residents of that famously educational thoroughfare. --Marshall Fine
User Submitted Sesame Street - Learning About Letters Reviews September 30, 2008 Love this! Both my 22 month old son and his mom love this! Very cute with the characters and clips from the Sesame Street I grew up with and enjoyed. The son is learning the letters and loves ""Cookie".
September 4, 2008 A Household Favorite 'Learning About Letters', 'Learning About Numbers', and the '25th Anniversary Special' are the household favorites. This DVD was really well done. 'Learning About Numbers' is still my favorite. Maybe try both?
May 5, 2008 Excellent Learning tool This is an entertaining DVD that has helped all my kids learn the alphabet. I highly recommend it!
November 22, 2007 Quality lacking It's all the friends we know and love but the quality of certain scenes of this DVD are grainy and lacking. My 2 yr old doesn't mind of course. Don't expect much Elmo, mainly Big Bird and every other character.
November 14, 2007 Learning about letters An oldie but a goodie, this Sesame Street ABC is very entertaining for my 3 year olds (a little less so for the 6 year old, but still a fave of his). C is for cookie is an all-time favourite clip. All the letters are covered in such a variety of creative ways it keeps kids interested. A classic.
September 17, 2007 It really taught my son the alphabet! I personally like this video because it is nostalgic for me, I'm the same age as the show Sesame Street and I remember many of the muppet skits from when I was a preschooler. It is a compilation of various Sesame Street skits produced before Elmo's time.
This is my 21 month old son's favorite video and he has started recognizing and saying letters of the alphabet as a result of watching it. The video goes through identifying all the letters giving certain letters specific attention such as a song or a story. Also there's a part where the camera finds and zooms in on each letter of the alphabet A to Z on the streets of 1970's New York City, ie, on manhole covers, street signs, etc. while kids shout the letter name. Later on, the alphabet is run through again in a cartoon form with a voice singing the letters. This is my son's favorite part as he often sings along! There is plenty of repetition which kids need but it teaches in an entertaining way.
I wish there were more vintage Sesame Street videos like this because I get a kick out of going down memory lane. I would trade in annoying characters like Baby Bear to get Kermit the Frog back anyday!
August 8, 2007 Sesame Street-Learning about Letters This is the most entertaining way to learn your letters. My Granddaughter wanted to watch it over and over again.
July 26, 2007 I HATE THIS DVD This is the worst dvd that I own from SS. It is old & they are sellin it like it is brand new. It says 2004 but the quality is the worst like it may have been made in the 1990's.
My son did not pay it much attention either. Get the All-Star Alphabet that one is fantastic... We both love that one...
May 23, 2007 My son loves this classic He just can't stop watching... and singing "C is for cookie thats good enough for me, C is for Cookie thats good enough for me, C is for cookie thats good enough for me, Cookie - Cookie - Cookie starts with C".
The classic Sesame Street characters you know an love. And catchy songs too. Oh and it is educational.
May 12, 2007 Learning can be fun and easy My granddaughter who is 22 months old recognized Big Bird (aka: big bo) on the dvd case immediately and could not wait to have it played. She interacts with the Sesame Street characters as she watches, and is always wanting to practice her ABC's with her parents and grandparents. This is from the earlier (1960's)Sesame Street productions, and I feel that it is even better than the newer dvds that are being produced. I feel its so important that children start early to appreciate that learning can be fun, and this dvd is a good tool in the learning process. My granddaughter gives it a big thumbs up (she hugs the dvd case, instead of actually doing a thumbs up...but it means the same). Great educational tool that is fun too.
