A message from John Walsh: I'm the host of a television show that I wish wasn't needed. But it is. Thankfully, 38 missing children have been recovered by our work at "America's Most Wanted." In 1981, the lives of my wife Reve and I were changed forever. Our beautiful son Adam was abducted from a mall in a nice area of South Florida. Sadly, two weeks into the biggest search for a child ever in Florida, our son was found murdered. In my quest to find justice and fight back for victims, I lobbied Congress to change the laws and to change how police search for missing children. I'm proud to say that the movement I started is still going strong. There's a national organization dedicated to helping children (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) and now this country and its media are beginning to understand that our children need to be informed about how to stay safe. In 1981 not much was known about child abduction and exploitation. Parents knew very little and, tragically, children knew even less. Today we're proud of the awareness that children have about the dangers that face them. Children see images everywhere of kidnappings and exploitation. We only need to think about what we've seen in the past year--pedophiles in the clergy, Internet predators, and others who are in positions to take advantage of children's trust in them--to know that kids are still being victimized at an alarming rate. I hope that's about to change. As a crime fighter and host of a popular TV program that has saved lives, I'm proud to be teaming up with a woman who knows how to teach children. Kids want to know what to do, and parents need to be prepared. Like me, Julie Clark is a parent who cares. She has a proven track record of teaching kids. Her passion and experience make this series of safety videos for children something that parents and kids will want to watch. Now parents and kids will do what I've been doing for more than 23 years--they'll fight back.
User Submitted Stranger Safety Reviews September 19, 2008 Stranger Safety...A MUST! This was intended for my 4 year-old. He is very into it. And my 2 year-old daughter loves to watch next to him. I have to wait and see if he practices the theory. But as a Mom I LOVE IT. It is done smartly and carefully not to scare them but it does create an impression. So important now a days. Don't think it any more, just get it! Another plus, is having the OK of Julie Clark from all the Baby Einstein's videos.
August 28, 2008 Great video This is a great video for children. It is quite corney for adults, but of course it is for children. If it helps keep our children safe then it is worth a million dollars!!!
August 14, 2008 Outstanding! I have a 4 1/2 year old and had been struggling with how to have the stranger danger talk with her. This video presented the subject better than I or her dad ever could.
Initially she didn't want to watch it, but about 5 minutes in, she said, "I love this movie!" She was eager to talk to me about it - the video really helped her understand who she can trust and who she can't.
The way dangerous situations are depicted are great - realistically, but not scary (I didn't want her to be terrorized, thinking all strangers were out to hurt her).
I can't recommend this video enough.
August 13, 2008 Fun and informative My kids love this DVD. It is fun, and yet extremely informative about staying safe in a very uncertain world. The lessons are so fun, they just stick in your head. They even stick in the head of all the adults:) Highly recommend!
July 18, 2008 Great help in teaching kids about strangers The video is kept my kids attention the whole time. The "safe side super chick" is a little wacky; however, the lesson was learned and my kids want to watch the video. I would recommend this to any parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles etc., just be sure to watch with your children.
June 27, 2008 IT'S JUST OK......... EXPECTED IT TO BE ALOT BETTER!! This dvd is a good start to practicing safety measures with your children. To me, there's just way too much goofy stuff going on to where the children loose the concept of the safety measure being taught. I watched it with my 5 1/2 year old daughter. Sometimes "Super Chick" talks too fast & with all the different charactars she takes on during the video it becomes confusing. I think she's trying too hard to be funny & silly to get the kids attention but it ends up taking away from the safety lessons being taught. I expected it to be ALOT better.
June 22, 2008 Great video Great video to start talking about stranger danger with young kids. It isn't scary and they learn more as they watch the video over and over again. My kids ask to watch it all the time and each time I can see that they pick up something different each time they watch. Highly recommend!!!
June 18, 2008 Great for children I purchased this for my (sometimes too friendly) 4 year old niece. She enjoys watching it and interacts with the video. The CD songs are easy to remember and therefor helpful. I depend on customer reviews myself and felt it important to write this one.
June 10, 2008 An excellent supplement to real life experiences... I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this. I was looking for something to help my overly friendly four year old understand that not everyone is who they may appear to be. After watching it twice, not only was my son understanding the concept behind the CD but he was eager to make a list of safe side adults and practice kind of knows and don't knows. While my 3 year old loved and laughed at it, she is still a little young to comprehend it fully. I highly recommend watching this as a family and taking the time to discuss such an important topic with your children.
June 4, 2008 It definitely helps! Short and simple - this video serves a purpose and helps to back up what a child's parents have taught them. My 3 1/2 year old has been wanting to watch this movie over and over and over for 2 days. It's the first thing she requests in the morning and has wanted to watch it several times a day. The main character is a little overboard, but I'm the mom, not the kid! I can understand that she's acting a little goofy to hold a child's attention (and it definitely holds my child's attention), but I think she does a great job getting her point across. I would recommend this video.
