An unforgettable story, breathtaking animation, beloved characters, and Academy Award(R)-winning music (Best Original Score, 1994; Best Song, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight") set the stage for the adventures of Simba, the feisty lion cub who "just can't wait to be king." But his envious Uncle Scar has plans for his own ascent to the throne, and he forces Simba's exile from the kingdom. Alone and adrift, Simba soon joins the escapades of a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warmhearted warthog pal, Pumbaa. Adopting their carefree lifestyle of "Hakuna Matata," Simba ignores his real responsibilities until he realizes his destiny and returns to the Pride Lands to claim his place in the "Circle of Life." Now extensively restored and remastered -- experience THE LION KING like never before, from its magnificent musical opening over breathtaking African vistas to its emotional climax. The all-star vocal talents -- including Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Ernie Sabella -- rip-roaring comedy, and uplifting messages of courage, loyalty, and hope make this timeless tale entertainment for all ages.
User Submitted The Lion King (Disney Special Platinum Edition) Reviews October 4, 2008 The Lion King The item's content was of course, excellent. The movie did come unhinged during shipping, which caused a loose, shaking noise inside before I opened it. I had to prevent the movie from hitting the floor when I opened it. Haven't actually watched the movie to inspect visual damage....more to come.

October 3, 2008 Extras not worth the hefty price. I'm a little at a loss for words... this set is almost $100 and it doesn't even include the other Lion King sequels? I love the Lion King movie, but sorry, I don't think any movie is worth that much money (no matter how many extra-never-before-seen-interviews-songs-videos there are).
September 29, 2008 FOR YOUNG AND OLD ALIKE.......... I DON'T DO A LOT OF CARTOON WATCHING, BUT, THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW THAT I ACTUALLY ENJOYED WATCHING WITH MY KIDS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASIONS.. A MUST SEE FOR EVERYONE
September 29, 2008 Never received the product and no communication- do not buy from this seller! I never received the product and the seller would not respond to emails. I could not recommend this seller!
September 27, 2008 One of Disney's best movies... but I don't know if I could take this much on a DVD I think I can safely say that "The Lion King" is one of my top three favorite things Disney has ever done. I love the story, the music, and the beautiful animation and color. It truly is an art form and any lover of the movie should be able to appreciate the platinum edition DVD.
And I do. I truly do. I can be quite the geek when it comes to DVDs, but this... it's kind of reminiscent of the marketing ploy that part of Disney has become.
Really, with all the marvelous extras this thing has... does it really need all the crap? The ads and too-long menus gave me something of a headache.
Still, I suppose it's worthy it to at least have this film gem on DVD.
September 25, 2008 The Lion King: The Greatest Disney Film Ever! Every day when I wake up in the morning and I see the sun shining so beautifully and so brightly in the sky, I begin singing to myself "Hakuna Matata" and I know that my day will go well and somehow I'll find a way to make the world a better place and I owe it all to this film. You see, this is a wonderful movie about bringing animals together. Simba is going to be king, only his nasty uncle, Scar, has other ideas and concocts a plan to kill Simba and his father, Mufasa. Fortunately, only Mufasa dies and Simba is scared off into the desert and told never to return. Now, this is where the movie gets oh so incredibly good because Simba meets my two favorite characters in the film: Timon and Pumbaa, a weasel and a warthog. Nathan Lane does the voice of Timon and every time I hear him, it makes me smile. This is where we get to hear the song "Hakuna Matata," which means no worries. This is such an important lesson for everyone, especially with the troubles in the Middle East right now with all the people who hate freedom. See, if you have no worries then you don't have any problems. Of course, Simba takes this a little too far because he ignores his responsibilities. This is where the wonderful song "Circle of Life" comes in. Later, when Nala shows up, we get to hear "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." I know I could! Really, when you think about it, this film teaches us how music can heal the world because every time you hear a song, you learn an important lesson. The greatest parts of the film, I think, are that we get to see monkeys and lions living in peace and harmony and when Mufasa comes to Simba in a vision, it's like Obi Wan Kenobi from "Star Wars" and whenever I think of "Star Wars" I get a big smile on my face. You'll feel kingly watching "The Lion King"!
September 25, 2008 Absolutely wonderful "The Lion King" is one of the best movies ever made. It should be cherished as a Disney classic forever. Mufasa is so wise and Jeremy Irons does a really great job of making Scar evil. I would have to say my favorite character is Simba...because he really had some struggles and he pulled through them. This has some really great lines: Ah yes the past can hurt, but the way I see it you can either run from it or learn from it. ~Rafiki How can I go back! I'm not who I used to be! ~Simba You are more then what you have become ~Mufasa Remember who you are ~Mufasa There are countless others, but I haven't the time to name them. This movie is really wonderful. The cast is superb and the comedy is really great. It is probably the greatest animated film of all time. Not to mention that the music in this movie is absolutely PHENOMENOL, especially in the scene at the end where Simba climbs Pride Rock. Whoever designed this music has some real talent. I love this movie, it is marvelous.
September 18, 2008 Must Have for any family This movie is sooo well known that my review will probably not make a difference in the decision for someone to purchase and own this video. It is a broadway classic as well and a must have for anyone.
