Now digitally restored and remastered with state-of-the-art technology, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is deeper, darker and more brilliant than ever just as Tim Burton originally envisioned it. Can Christmas be saved? Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, longs to spread the joy of Christmas. But his merry mission puts Santa in jeopardy and creates a nightmare for good little boys and girls everywhere! Bonus Features THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is the first full-length stop-motion animated film ever created. The movie contains more than 227 animated characters. Santa Claus' head has more than 50 different working parts, and Jack has more than 400 separate interchangeable heads, each handcrafted with a different facial expression. The smallest working puppet in the movie is a doll from the "real world" Jack visits that is only one inch long. Sally is wearing a real miniature dress laid on top of foam latex so that the fabric doesn't move too much on screen. At the height of production, the animators produced only 70 seconds of finished film per week. To create Halloweentown's twisted look, the design artists often made their sketches using their nondrawing hand. What's This? User Submitted The Nightmare Before Christmas (2-Disc Collector's Edition + Digital Copy) Reviews October 6, 2008 the nightmare before christmas this movie was cute, a little too scary for my kids ( under the age of 5) The item shipped to me quick and everything was great.
October 5, 2008 'Tis truly A nightmare Before christmas Another one of my friends got this for me as a gift. Again, I was giddy with delight (they all know me so well)! While I thought it odd that Disney would reproduce something that was fairly dark, it was so great to see this movie again, as I hadn't seen it in years. The remaster was wonderful as the colors were more vibrant. I especially loved all the bonus features like Frankenweenie, Vincent and The storyboard to film comparison. I thought the cost was high at first, but when I saw the 3D bust as the cover and all the extras, I realize the cost was quite fair. This is a great buy for followers of this cult classic or anything Tim Burton.
October 3, 2008 in time for the holidays! amazing family classic. The video and audio are top notch and although it might lack some extras the digital copy is a nice touch. Highly recommended
October 3, 2008 A MUST HAVE!!! This is my first Blu-Ray purchase and I couldn't be more pleased. This is one of my favorite films, even though I only had it on Laser Disc before this. Will watch this many more times!
October 3, 2008 Excellent This Blu-Ray Disc version of The Nightmare Before Christmas is a must buy for any fan of the film. It has the most amazing picture and sound, along with plenty of extras to go with it. And at about the same price as the DVD, why not go with the Blu-Ray? I highly recommend this product.
October 3, 2008 Blu-ray brings out detail Our family has had a copy of this movie on some format or other for a long time, so it was a natural addition to our Blu-ray collection. The high definition is great for this film because it lets you see the detail of the models so much better.
It's also our first experience with the digital copy feature, which I like because the kids can run the movie on the PC without having to fire up the home theatre or handle the disk.
My interest in Danny Elfman's music predates his film scoring career, so I found it fascinating how he worked with Tim Burton to get the songs written before a script actually existed. It's my favorite portion of the bonus features.
October 3, 2008 wonderful of course this movie was purchased for my boyfriend and he loves it! I am so glad i got it. The picture and everything is wonderful
October 2, 2008 Very creative movie, fun to watch I bought this for my two little girls, who love the movie, but I find myself watching it every time it's on. I especially love the musical numbers in it, and I'm just amazed that this wasn't done on a computer! It's incredible, the amount of hard work that went in to this and it's quite impressive. I highly recommend it for all ages, and there's nothing scary about it for the kids. At least not my 5 and 6 year old!
October 2, 2008 great movie but bad digital copy great movie but bad digital copy. I have the widescreen vhs version and the dvd here but the movie is out of sync. There seem to be lines that flash in my copy the tape is ten times better then the dvd so dont buy this one buy the vhs copy in widescreen its so much better.
October 2, 2008 Must Have If You're a Fan.. Otherwise: Very Entertaining I loved the movie long before it became popular, so I was excited to find out that some of my favorite artists were covering the Nightmare Before Christmas songs.
The genre of the album is mainly rock... 'tis why I loved it so much. Keep in mind that this album is coming from a movie that is a bit of a musical, so you'll hear a dialogue in some songs and will sound like a typical "musical" soundtrack.
Amy-Lee is awesome as always. I'm upset with how short the song was but wuddya gonna do; I just kept repeating it. You can definitely hear her style come out. KoRn does his thing with "Kidnap the Sandy Claws"--I loved it, it was very entertaining, and I'm a big fan of the band. I've never heard of "The Vitamin String Quartet" but be assured I will definitely look into their music. I never really liked the original "Oogie Boogie's Song", but I loved what Rodrigo y Garbriela did with it. They made the song enjoyable for me. I don't like All-American Rejects AT ALL, but I liked "Jack's Lament". They did a good job. I can go on about how great this album is but I'll cut it short and will let you know some of the bad. (it's the reason why you're reading this, I assume).
I can say I was disappointed with a few songs. #7 "Town Meeting Song" by The Polyphonic Spree... this song lasted about 9 minutes but I couldn't get through the first 3. It was too "musical" for me and way too slow. The song naturally had dialogue in it (and if you saw the movie, you know what I'm talking about) but they just didn't do anything interesting with it. This song was my least favorite.. actually.. it was even a favorite. I just hated it. #9 "Jack's Obsession" by Sparklehorse... holy crap this covered song should be buried in the archives of crap. I'll never look into Sparklehorse's other works. There was so much you could've done with the song, but it was acoustic-y and high pitch squeaky vocals. Garbage. #12 "Nabbed" by Yoshida Brothers was also 7 minutes long and I got through 6 minutes of it before skipping. This song had a jazzy-feel to it.. I'm not a fan of jazz. Yoshida Brothers, unfortunately, wasn't able to stay true to the melody of the song for most of it. It did in the beginning but then I got lost and couldn't recognize that this harmonic artwork was from Nightmare Before Christmas. It was bearable... but bad. #15 "Christmas Eve Montage" by Rjd2 didn't sound rock to but like... that purely synthesized stuff (forget the genre.. I hardly listen to that stuff anyway). It's Bass/Beat prominent, but I liked it because it stood true to the melody of the original song. That's my only beef with this song. #17 "To the Rescue" by Datarock... also purely synthesized.. good if you like stuff like that. It's was pretty good and exciting.
The artists I'm unfamiliar with received bad reviews (by me in this review you're reading right now)I guess partially because of the fact that I'm unfamiliar with them. A song can sound bad but I may say it's good because the artist that covered it is one of my favorites. It's just how the mind works and the familiarity of their style. If you LOVE Datarock, Sparklehorse (god save him), Yoshida Brothers, The Polyphonic Spree, and Rjd2, then forget what I said and get the disc. I didn't like what they did because I would never listen to their music.
I gave it 5/5 stars because I love the movie and the original songs. I truly love what most of the artists did with it; with the exception to the artists I don't like.. if I had liked them then this album would be flawless, and I'd give it an extra star if possible.
