User Submitted DEX Products Sound Sleeper SS-01 Reviews November 2, 2008 We love it We've heard complaints about the sound level not being loud enough on this machine. We have not had that problem. We did find tho that if you press and hold the volume button it won't get louder... you have to tap it to increase the volume. If you do this, it gets plenty loud. We are glad we bought it. It's a great background noise machine and we sleep like babies with it. We have no complaints. We would definitely buy another one. :)
October 14, 2008 sound sleeper This product was great for the first six weeks I had it but now it doesn't work....so I think either I have a defective one or they need to work some bugs out.
September 9, 2008 Life Saver My daugher is 15 months old and is a very light sleeper. When my older kids walk past her door talking, she wakes up. I ordered this product when a family member suggested a white noise machine might help. I was willing to try anything and this really, really helped. My daughter loves it and I have no problems getting her to sleep. Some stuff still wakes her up, but it's really loud noises or yelling. If you are having the same problem, I absolutely recommend this. We leave it on the random setting and she sleeps very soundly for three hour naps now.
August 24, 2008 Nice sounds; does not block out external noise I bought this to use in my baby's room and I do like the relaxing choices of sounds. I always leave it on the ocean waves. However, it doesn't block out external noise/sounds as much as I hoped it would, so I still have to use another machine that sounds like a whirring fan (white noise) so she won't hear the TV, etc. It is great in the car, though. So small you can just pack in the diaper bag and turn it on in the car to help the baby sleep.
August 22, 2008 So So Product I read every review and thought I would give it a try. The sounds are fine but the volume does not go up very high at all. We don't have any other kids, so our home is quiet for the most part. I think the baby will be able to hear it, if its close to him but I don't expect it to drown out any other noises in the house. It's too bad because I think some of the sounds are pretty good, some however are kind of weird just white noise. Its okay for the money. I am probably just going to deal with it rather than return it.
August 15, 2008 Good background noise I really like this machine for my baby. We turn it to Rain and she's slept much better since we got it. It's also fabulous for when we travel. My 2 yr old is used to listening to a fan at nap time, so instead of hauling the fan everywhere we can just bring this. SO much nicer!
July 17, 2008 Wish I'd Paid Attention to the Reviews! I read the reviews and wanted to believe the good ones - but the ones who tell you the volume level is useless are absolutely correct! Don't waste your money on this, it is barely audible. The sound selections are also poor and some of them are downright irritating. Another minus was buying this via Amazon from the vendor BabyAge; that was a bad experience. It took them over four weeks to ship it. To return to them you have to go to their website for an authorization number - by sending them an e-mail from there. Waited a couple days for a response and it was a nice e-mail telling me that I would be sent the authorization code but that I needed to understand that I would be given a store credit since they could not refund to me directly through Amazon. I had to request the store credit be converted to a refund after they received the item and issued the store credit. While they were nice and did tell me the refund has now been submitted, it's a lot to keep up with and pursue to get your money back.
July 15, 2008 Great product--I want one for myself I bought this to help my infant son sleep through the night. I was a bit worried when I read some of the other reviews, but the price was right, so I bought. Thank goodness I did!!! My baby loves it and the sounds help to soothe him to sleep, and more importantly KEEP him asleep. In fact I'm seriously thinking on buying another one for my husband and I to use in our room. It's that soothing. And, by the way, I've had the Sound Sleeper for 5 months now and it still works perfectly. The volume is perfectly adjustable, so it's not too loud or too soft.
June 28, 2008 Too quiet & other problems I got this as a white noise machine for my baby. We used the Conair Infant Sound Machine- SU7 and clock radio for our older child and were happy with it, but she still uses it at age 3. (I would recommend that over this - in addition to working better as a sound machine, it is cheaper and has more features).
Here are the main problems with this device: - it's WAY too quiet and it seems like the womb sounds are the quietest of all - it doesn't "remember" the last volume setting it was at and always starts at the quietest setting when turned on - the volume controls are annoying - just two buttons for up and down so you don't really know whether you are at the loudest setting (which you will want to be if you want it to have any effect at all), so you find yourself repeatedly pushing the up button just to make sure - the sound combos so highly featured are not as great as they sound - there are only 4 sounds that you can combine with the others (and those 4 you would never use on their own), you can't just combine any 2 of the 10 sound options, like I had hoped.
Other comments: - I personally find the timer feature annoying because it is easy to accidentally switch it to this and the noise will go off after 1 hour, waking the baby. - Some of the sounds are in fact very soothing (just too quiet!)
June 27, 2008 Don't Be Fooled This sound machine is not loud enough for one. Each time you turn it on, it is back at lowest level, so you have to push the button several times before it is back at the level you had previously. No way to tell what volume level you are at anyway. Has a silly "demo mode" button on back that is too easy to push on and sound only plays for a handful of seconds. Imagine doing all of this with a newborn baby in your arms.
