The Soothing Motion Glider Seat takes a close second place to Mom's arms. The seat glides in two directions in a steady motion reminiscent of a parent's cradled arms. The seat is multi-position, laying flat for sleeping babies or sitting partially upright position for playing or feeding. Soft and comfortable, it's covered in the coziest of fabrics and includes a canopy. Plus, parents can comfort their baby with ten soothing tunes. A must-have for newborns.
User Submitted Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter Bunny Reviews December 30, 2008 Great for sleeping, but eats batteries, mechanical issues. This was a lot of fun for about 2 weeks. Sadly, it eats batteries and the motor dies frequently. Eventually, despite replacing batteries multiple times, it died completely. We've had the bouncer for 3 months and we only use it as a place for our baby to take naps now. He far prefers it to his crib as it cradles him cozily. He has slept up to 6 hours in it when swaddled, as opposed to 4-5 hours in his crib, but we're working on that. It is also somewhat bulky. Not happy with the extra "features" but love it as a temporary bassinet. The fabric cover machine washes easily.
December 13, 2008 good stuff I bought this for my daughter who loves to be rocked to sleep. It works best for us if she's already fallen asleep and we want to put her down (keeps rocking her so we can rest). It's a life saver. Also I wanted this one verses a regular swing because it's more reclined and not too fast for my newborn.
December 7, 2008 OK as an infant bed Well, I guess every kid is different. I saw reviews saying their babies love it and can be soothed to sleep, not the case with my son or daughter. They can sleep in it, but if they are awake, they wouldn't want to stay in it and neither the gliding nor the music would please them. It's still ok as an infant bed. So now it's in our living room as a spare infant bed for my daughter.
November 25, 2008 Our most used piece of baby equipment! The motion glider I have is a hand me down from my sister who swore it was her saving grace for her second daughter who had reflux. Because the chair is bent upright, it is a great place for newborns who have reflux to sleep. We've been using it since day one for our four month old son and he loves it. In the beginning we did use it primarily for him to sleep since he did have a little reflux and slept better being slightly upright. Now he likes to sit in it and play with the toys on the toy bar. We've added a few more toys for him to bat around. It is great to have around the house because it is an easy and safe place to put baby down for a few minutes and usually it will keep him distracted. If my sister hadn't given the motion glider to us, I would have bought one in a heartbeat.
November 20, 2008 Too slow to sooth baby This product is not versatile nor effective enough for me to recommend it. We got it as a gift and I tried using it every day for about two weeks and my baby would just look at me thinking "are you crazy mom!? there is NO way I will sit still in this!" She would just squirm around trying to get out. It is much too slow to do anything for a baby and is bulky and ugly and heavy as well! I got a lot more use out of the Baby Bjorn Sitter which is a little more money but my baby likes it, sits in it for at least 10 minutes (that is a lot for her!) and it folds flat and does not require batteries.
November 10, 2008 Best thing ever for newborn!!!! I have a colic infant with reflux. This has been my saving grace. He hates the basic swing, papasan swing, and bouncer. He LOVES the gliding motion, and only lets me put him down in this machine. I highly recommend getting the boppy noggin head rest to lay in the inside of the glider. It really keeps them in place, and helps to keep their head from getting flat. You won't be diappointed.
November 4, 2008 kinda loud this is a nice chair but it is loud when it is on. Its heavy to move between rooms. I bought this for my Second baby so I could keep her up high and out of the way of the crazy 2 year old. Great for small places. The fabric is kinda scratchy not as soft as I would like so I just put a blanket over it.
October 24, 2008 Infant seat/bouncer I love the looks of this seat, but the only thing that holds the seat to the base is 2- 1" screws. My fear is that the weight of the base will come sdisconnected from the seat while carrying the seat with the baby in it, possing a fall/trip/injury risk.
September 7, 2008 Great for Sleeping I bought one of these soothers for my sister's baby because it is the most helpful little chair to new moms. I have one that my 3 month old still sleeps in next to our bed, and has been using since she was 3 weeks old. She never spits up, and falls asleep so fast with the slow rocking movement. Its moveable and comfortable for the baby, not too loud, it actually puts me to sleep too! If your little one is having trouble sleeping, or spitting up...you really should try this out!
August 28, 2008 Worth every penny I was wary of spending this much money on yet another chair (at the time we already had a bouncer and a baby papasan). But my daughter wasn't fond of either, and I badly needed a safe place for her to hang out while I showered! So we got this. Hands down this was the best buy we made in the first 6 months of our baby's life. (And looking back, the only chair we really needed.)
As it turned out, one of my daughter's favorite things to do in her pre-sitting up days was to lie back in that chair and rock back and forth while listening to music. Sometimes we'd even get a nap out of it.
When she was too old for the chair, we passed it on to some friends of ours. They reported that it soothed their daughter to sleep very consistently as well.
