User Submitted JJ Cole Premaxx Sling Carrier - New Edition Red Orange Reviews August 24, 2008 not as easy to use as I thought The sling was not very easy to use and never seemed to reall work right
October 9, 2007 Useless! My baby hated as soon as I put him in this carrier. It is so claustrophobic for him that he looked miserable inside. Plus it is impossible to carry for even 5 minutes with only one shoulder strap. It is somewhere in the garage...I already forgot where I put it...
June 16, 2007 Good quality, but needs some design work... I ordered this before reading the reviews, or else I may have made a different choice. The materials and workmanship are great, which I would expect for the price. I am short (5'2") and did manage to get it to fit me comfortably, using both clips, although it does seem a little excessive to have the strap cinched all the way. I have an infant who can't hold his head up quite yet, and I have managed to get him in comfortably and support his head adequately, but not the way the instructions said to do it. The design could be a little more conducive for supporting smaller babies, which is why I wanted to use a sling in the first place (I felt the carriers like Baby Bjorn are for use later, when the legs/hips are more developed, not for tiny babies/preemies who still have "frog feet"). I use it okay, but wouldn't highly recommend it.
May 12, 2007 Great disappointment. I purchased the Premaxx baby carrier for a client. She found this product difficult to maneuver. Uncomfortable for baby. Fortunately, I followed my instinct and also purchased the trusted "NOJO BABY Sling" by Dr. Sears. She and her husband asbsolutely love using it. I personally experienced using the "Nojo" for over a year. A tried and true product. Premaxx has proven to be a disappointment. I blindly purchased the Premaxx because it looked so inviting in the ad. You know, glossy with all the bells and whistles. I learned a valuable lesson. Check it out in the stores before you purchase on-line.
May 9, 2007 Not what I thought. I bought this sling to help me with my newborn while helping my 3 year old. I received it when she was 2 weeks old. She looked very uncomfortable in the sling and cried the entire time. Now that she is 8 weeks old (11 lbs) She feels to heavy to have her hanging in it around my neck.
March 23, 2007 Mine broke I had this when my daughter was first born. It worked OK but she seemed pretty curled up in it. When she was about 2 months old we were out walking and one of the buckles snapped-- luckily I had my hand under the sling and she did not fall out or anything. I was able to return the product, but I bought the Snugli carrier instead-- I would not recommend this or any other sling that has plastic buckles.
March 6, 2007 Its Ok I just bought this sling for my nearly 3 month old daughter. I have the baby Bjorn but wanted to be free to do more around the house without feeling like I would dump her out while bent over. Although she falls asleep almost instantaneously in this sling, the adjustable strap is thin and it is what supports the weight as it sits on your shoulder. If I were to design it I would have made the shoulder strap much thicker. Also, you can't breastfeed discretely with it. I see other slings allow you to do that. However, this sling feels sturdy and as long as you tie a knot on the toggled ropes I feel confident that the baby is fine. I've only used it for a few days though. I think I might return this sling and try another. I have a feeling I will have to try a variety before I find the right one.
September 11, 2006 Don't give up! I love this sling! But I'd like to stress as other people have done that you have to practice with it to find what works for you. It may be too big for your newborn. I started using it when my son was 4 weeks, but he was a large baby.
I've found the key is wear it high! The instructions say the you and your baby will be more comfortable with baby at chest height. It's true! If you try to wear it with the baby hanging a little lower near your stomach it's going to hurt your back and shoulder and wear you out and he/she's going to squirm and be uncomfortable.
I used it every day of my sons 3rd month when we were in hotels between moving. Now I used it every time I grocery shop because as soon as he's in it he falls asleep, no matter the time of day. If I try to push him through the whole store sitting in the cart in his carseat he'll start screaming but if I put him in my sling I won't hear a peep out of him the whole trip.
And you have to admit it's so cute and stylish! Several people have stopped to ask me where I got it and I love directing them to Amazon!
June 12, 2006 Huge Disappointment! Waste of Money! I bought this for my daughter while I was still pregnant, thinking that it would be helpful thru the first few months (as well as later) in terms of being able to keep up with my daily chores and my 2 1/2 y.o. son. It certainly wasn't cheap, so I assumed that it would be a good product, and appeared to be safe and comfortable for younger infants. Don't let the product description fool you! Just as it says in some of the other reviews, it is very possible for your child to fall when in this sling, because of it's crappy strap tightener. My daughter was a small newborn, only weighing 8lbs at nearly 2 months, which was the first time I tried using the sling. And even being that small, for the 2 minutes I had the sling on I could already tell that the strap was starting to loosen. (Definitely NOT safe!) Aside from that, this item is so big and bulky that I literally could not even see my daughter in it. I might as well have just put a duffel bag over my shoulder and plopped her into it. There wouldn't have been much difference between the two. I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE THAT YOU DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT! I want to get rid of mine, since it's brand new, but I threw away the box so I can't return it. And I absolutely cannot, in good concience, sell it to anyone else for their child. So, I have no choice but to just bite my tongue and throw the product in the trash. Don't make the same mistake I did!
May 30, 2006 not designed well I bought this sling when I was still pregnant. After my son was born I tried putting him in it but he just didn't seem secure, so i threw it in the back of the closet. When he turned one, I dug it out again, thinking it would work well as a hip carrier, but it is even worse for this! I had him in this a total of five minutes and it was awful. First of all, the buckles should not be placed so they hit the wearer either on the neck or the shoulder bone, it is very painful with a heavier baby. I took him out of it and will never touch the thing again.
