User Submitted Joovy Groove 2 Stroller Green Reviews January 6, 2009 Very Disappointing I ordered this stroller (from a different retailer) to cart around my 2 year old, and my soon to be 6 month old baby. The few reviews I could find online were generally positive, and given the relatively lower price for this stroller compared to the others I was looking at (Maclaren Twin Techno and Baby Jogger City Mini Double were both upwards of $300; this one cost me $200), I figured it was worth the gamble. Well, I gambled and lost. Admittedly, I did NOT ever take this one the road. I never made it there because it was so ridiculously hard to open it, adjust the recline on the seats, work the brakes, and then reverse all of my hard work to close it back again, that I decided it was going to be way more trouble than its worth. I have an active toddler and a squirmy 6 month old. There was no way I could afford a "break-in period", or to be fiddling with adjusting a million bells and whistles just to run errands or take a stroll with my kids. If you are like me, you need something that will come out of the box pretty much ready to roll, with features that are intuitive to operate. This stroller was not that.
I am returning the Groove 2, and will be getting the Baby Jogger City Mini Double instead. Its a little more money, but having test driven it, I can say with confidence that the Mini Double is -- for me -- worth the extra $$. Sometimes you do get exactly what you pay for, or even less; and for me, the Groove 2 fell in that category. Joovy got it right with the Caboose and I look forward to buying one when my 2 year old is too old for a regular stroller, but they've got some work to do on the Groove 2.
I recommend either paying the additional cash for a more heavily reviewed and tested brand of double stroller, or get something less expensive but simple to operate. I now know why there are so few online reviews of this stroller.
November 1, 2008 Great for my 6 month old and 3.5 year old! Pro's, very manuverable, stylish, super quality fabric, lots of storage, compact when folded. The fabric they sit on is reversible for either cool fabric or warm fleece for here in Alaska. Con's like others stated would be the little clip on the handlebars that keeps the thing folded, and the sunshade inside joint that is really hard to set or release. Also a little hard to open the stroller. I feel all of these complaints are very minor. We bought this for an upcoming trip to disneyworld. I was surprised when looking at their strollers to see that they were all really hard plastic and not soft for younger children. I was nervous opening this stroller in the parking lot of our halloween bazaar (my test run) since it was very rocky and ice/snowy. The stroller took it like a champ with both my kiddos loaded up. The seats are super cushy and it's so nice to have one sat upright for my daughter (who's an in and out of the stroller kinda kid). My son just kinda chilled looking at his sister happily for a couple hours and my back wasn't aching from my bjorn with his chunky lil butt. For me the stroller was a great surprise in quality. I looked up reviews on everything, and had a really hard time ordering this one because there just aren't very many reviews out there. My main goals for this stroller was being able to fit my 28 lb 3 year old and my son at 8 months (with potential for naps), plus we needed a sunshade and some storage. The only prob I ran into at the halloween fest was trying to get adults to pay attention so I could get out but it was nutty and way too packed. Overall I DEFINITELY recommend!
August 28, 2008 Not worth the price. I was very excited when receiving this stroller, however, it is not worth the price. The stroller itself is VERY heavy compared to other side-by-side umbrella type stroller. It is at least 27lbs (without the canopy attached). The quality and built of the stroller is not what I would expect for the price. The lock to keep the stroller closed is just a piece of plastic that hooks the handle to the frame, not like other stroller in this price range that automatically lock when folded. The seats are not comfortable and awkward. I would compare this to Cosatto/Avalon Luna Twin stroller which is a better deal and was sold for $199 (similar features as this one but also includes adjustable leg support, footmuffs, and raincover). Very disappointed. I don't mind paying for quality, but the price/quality of this product is not up to snuff. I ended up returning the product.
August 14, 2008 great stroller Great compact umbrella stroller. The wheels were a bit squeaky but easily fixable. Also, the closure to keep the stroller folded is awkward. However, the sun protection from the canopy is wonderful. As a twin mom, I have tried more than a few strollers and this one is great! While I loved the City Mini Double jogging stroller the most, the seats were too reclined and my little ones didn't like sitting/lying so far back. The seats on the joovy are more upright. All in all, a great stroller for the price.
July 23, 2008 Finally found a great stroller for our 2 kids! We did a lot of research looking for a good stroller for our 6 month old and almost 2 1/2 year old girls after getting frustrated by the weight and bulk of our Kolcraft Contours limousine and decided, based on tons of good reviews all over the web, on this Joovy Groove 2. It has the best combination of features that were important to us - lightweight (it's all relative with double strollers), great sunshades, easy to fold, reasonable price, comfortable and adjustable for the kids, tall enough shades for our toddler to have plenty of room, and small enough to fit through doorways... and it looks good too!
The only downside we've found so far is that when folding it up and locking it, the little locking mechanism is hard to get to and pops off completely sometimes when unlocking it.
Other than that, it seems pretty durable and we hope it will last a good long time!
May 22, 2008 love it!!! I love my new stroller. It is so easy to push and also turns very easily. I have a 6 year old and a 10 month old and the size difference between them does not affect the stroller. Although the stroller is only guaranteed for 40 lbs or less in each seat, we needed something for my older child too (60lbs). Since there are not any strollers out there for older children, this is the stroller we decided on. She has plenty of head room. Her legs are a little long if she wants to lay back, but there is not a stoller out there that would fit her (she is tall for her age).I love how the stroller reclines in 4 positions and it is fairly easy to adjust. I didn't have any problem folding or unfolding the stroller, however I don't like where the latch is located to keep the stroller folded. It is between the two canopies and kind of hard to get to. I absolutely love the huge canopies that adjust to different positions and stay there, they also keep my fair skinned girl completely shaded. The baskets are an average size. I also love the handle locations, I can push easily with one hand. I wish I had one of the single groove strollers when my oldest was a toddler!!
May 12, 2008 joovy groove 2 stroller this troller is ok. not worth the price. the canopy keep falling down all the time, not easy to fold. but it is light and easy to move
March 14, 2008 Love the stroller; hate the tire marks on the canopy I love this stroller. I am a mother of twins and it is so easy to maneuver and fold up when needed. The only downside is that when you fold the stroller to put back in your car, the tires rest on the inside of the canopy covers and leave black tire marks! I am a bit of a neat freak so this really bugs me.
February 26, 2008 Great side by side, especially for traveling I bought this stroller after trying the Sit and Stand style with a 3 year and an infant (6 months). My infant wanted to be able to see the toddler so side by side was better for us. We were headed to Disney World so I wanted something that would fold down small, be able to hang multiple heavy bags on the handles, be sturdy, shade the sun well and allow the kids to sleep in it. This stroller does all of that very well!! It is a bit heavy but it folds VERY easily - it was never stiff at the beginning. We did have a bit of trouble with the latch to keep the stroller folded up as it is a bit hidden between the two seats and we almost lost it once. It is removeable. When I realized that I should keep it clipped down at the bottom neat their feet it was easier to find when folding the stroller. My husband wished it stood up when folded like the Combi but no umbrella does that. My infant took six naps in it at Disney so that speaks for the comfort. I really am happy. If it had a shoulder strap it would be easier to travel with but I guess you could add your own. On the whole - I love it and the kids love it.
December 15, 2007 Best side-by-side out there! I never write reviews, but thought I should as I am so impressed with this stroller. I am an avid researcher, and rely heavily on reviews, so unfortunately, I only had one very positive review to go by. That being said, the review covered all the info I needed!
I test drove the Maclaren Techno, Combi Savvy, Baby Planet and Peg Perego Aria twin... They all had positives but also had many negative qualities. The Joovy Groove 2 beats all of them! It is a bit heavy (I would say the weight of the Maclaren Techno), but is so durable and maneuvers so well, that you don't notice the weight unless unloading/ loading it out of the car. Plus, it folds so compactly (almost as small as my single umbrella stroller!), the weight doesn't really matter.
The fabric is almost waterproof, it's so durable! I think spilling juice or a diaper blow-out has nothing on this stroller! The reclining function is like none I have ever seen. It's very easy. The pockets in the back are a good size. The cup holders are great for sippys, water bottles, or even a Starbucks (but you have to order a grande, shucks!). The sunshades are great, similar to the Maclaren's, but the bottom part isn't plastic, which I like, more coverage. The other thing is that you can fold the bottom part back, where the Maclaren is all or nothing.
The only negative feature is that the lock that holds the stroller together when compact is in an awkward spot (between the shades). It is also heavier than the Peg or Combi, but again, it doesn't drive heavy like most of those tandems or joggers.
This is definitely worth the money and far outweighs the positives on any side by side. It comfortably fits a 2-yr-old and an infant, and is made SOOO well! You will not be dissapointed in this stroller!
