User Submitted Mommy's Helper Kid Keeper Reviews November 6, 2008 No more zapping! My kid likes this much better than the taser gun I was using to keep her in line. I prefer the taser.
October 24, 2008 Good Basic Harness I bought this for my 16 month old. It fits him well, and would adjust to fit a much bigger child. He doesn't mind having the harness on, until the tether keeps him from getting into something that he was determined to have. This product is not a panacea. It will not make a child who wants to dart off docile, but it will help keep him/her safe, which is why I bought it. I like that the clip that attaches the tether to the harness is easy for an adult to get on and off, so that I can put the harness on him before we leave home, but only attach the tether when I need it (the clips on some other harness I've tried are so stiff that they're a real pain to do and undo). My only criticism is that you can't adjust the length of the handle loop. I'd like to be able to tighten it around my wrist rather than having to hold it in my hand all the time.
August 5, 2008 harnesses are not evil!!! The people who say putting a harness with a safety strap on a toddler is evil OBVIOUSLY do not have (and probably never have had) an active toddler!!! The first time your toddler refuses to hold your hand, and then darts off in a crowded place or near a street you'll understand the need for products like this. Until then, maybe you should worry about yourself instead of being so critical. I'd rather do this then keep my child at home all day and night or cooped up in the stroller the entire time we are out!!!
June 16, 2008 Not as good We bought this harness and the Kiddopatamus harness and this one isn't as good. The shoulder straps rub against the kids' necks. There also isn't any padding so the nylon digs in a bit. We wouldn't recommend this product.
June 15, 2008 Great for dogs. If you are looking for the right leash to control your canine, this is for you. On a kid? How evil and embarrassing.
April 18, 2008 Prevent falls and runners with secure leash This is the best ever to keep your toddler close at hand, and to keep him from falling.. Having tried 3 leashes (Dog with leash, new item blue/green backpack leash which seams broke after one month of my rebellious strong toddler)
Pros: 1. Velcro enclosure is snug and secure (dog one is so loose at 2.5 years) for babies and toddlers (length adjustable and girth too) 2. Placement of leash and snug velcrow is great to prevent falls--baby suspended in air 3. Hot weather: This is great-strong over the head leash with little warmth. 4. Wrist leash and removeable back leash are great options.
Cons: 1. Cannot grow with the toddler (will likely be snug on my 3 year old) 2. No backpack feature to carry stuff. 3. Not as cute or as warm/hot soft as dog leash in 100 degree heat at amusement park. 4. Wrist leash is useless for my strong toddler who removed it.
January 30, 2008 Quiet Child Es útil para viajar con los pequeñines sin que puedan escapar muy lejos.
It's practical in order to travel with children, they would not to escape too far with this product.
December 23, 2007 SAFE KIDS... PARENTS CAN BRITH... First I bought this for my nice,(she droves crazy trying to fallow the fire crackers in New Year... now for my daughter... no more worries in crowed places...
August 6, 2007 Great product -- I just ordered a second one I have a big (~22#) very active 14 month old daughter who has been walking for several months. She's very fast and usually fearless -- and she will readily zip off to explore the world on her own, leaving her parents in the dust!
We purchased the first harness about a month ago. The first time we put it on her at home (-- a "test run" --), she didn't like it -- but that's not unusual for small children. However, she got used to it quickly and it has become standard-operating-procedure for her to put it on before we go out to the car and go anywhere. While she likes to explore things, she also recognizes/respects the boundaries it establishes. I also find that the waistband makes a good handhold when giving her piggy-back rides. Unlike another reviewer, I have not had any difficulty with the velcro not holding or the child opening the velcro -- however, that difference might be caused by the difference in the age or temperment of the children.
The two suggestions that I would offer other parents are: (a) Allow the child to become accustomed to the harness BEFORE going out in public -- take the child for walks around the house or in the yard -- and (b) keep the shoulder straps very loose -- as the harness is much, much easier to put on and take off that way, and there is no functional reason that the straps need to be tight.
The only suggestion I would offer to the manufacturer is to include padding sleeves to put over the shoulder straps where they go along the neck. This would prevent chaffing if the shoulder straps are kept tight. (However, as a note to parents, if the shoulder straps are kept loose, chaffing is not an issue.)
April 16, 2007 I did not like it! Well the fact that it is a leash was really not the problem, cause I mean when you buy it, you already know that! LOL
My daughter would have more tantrums wearing it than not. Every time I would put it on her, she would scream and beg me not to put it on. It was really heartbreaking. On the plus side, this item really taught my daughter to walk next to me and listen to me LOL
We used it a couple of time and put it aside. She really hated it and I felt that it caused more tention than it is worth.
