Great monitor and worth the $$ -- wouldn't want to have a little one without it
I have been using this product for 7 months now and love it!. It is worth every penny we paid. I researched several models and opted to give this one a try even though it was a new product with few reviews to use to help in making my decision. I have listed the pros and cons of my experience using this device:

Pros
**Great picture quality -- We haven't seen any issues so far with blurry picture, but then again the monitor is directly above my son's crib. I haven't seen a change in the picture when he moves and crawls around inside.

**No interference from other wireless devices -- We have quite a few...phones, routers, etc...and use them while the monitor is active.

**Automatic, smooth transition from color to night vision

**Belt clip is great to keep the monitor close at hand

**Volume adjustment is an important feature -- Static from the monitor is sounds almost non-existent during the day. However, at night the sound on the same setting as used during the day is a little annoying when I first put my head on the pillow. (I tend to be a light sleeper though so this might be the issue too.) When the sound is too annoying to alleviate the problem, I turn down the volume to a one or two setting. Doing so allows me to hear my son but not hear the static.

**View button works well -- You can check on your child without getting up in the middle of the night. We have found most often that our son is either adjusting during his sleep or making noise to make noise. It's nice to make certain he is okay without getting up to check on him.

**Dorel Customer service very helpful -- The view button on the parent unit recently stopped working. Given the timeframe from my date of purchase, it was still under warranty, but I could not return it to the online store from which I purchased it. So I contacted Dorel directly. They were really helpful and only too happy to replace the parent unit for me. I received in a few days.

Cons
**Battery life -- The longest battery life I have experienced is about 5 hours tops. However, this can quickly be resolved by keeping it connected to the power cord. It's just inconvenient when you're trying to work in other areas of the house.

**Interference when using the microware -- If I am using the microwave and the parent unit is on, there is interference if I get it too close. This too is resolved if I keep the unit 10 feet or so away from the microwave.

**View button stopped working, but as aforementioned the manufacturer was quick to send me a replacement.

Overall I would recommend and have recommended this product to anyone having with a little one. It's worth the money. Even though I did not pay the full retail value, those folks who purchase it now can get a reduced price.

Great product
As a VERY panicky new mom I wasn't really into the idea of my baby sleeping away from me, in a different room, but I also needed to be able to eat dinner (or do anything) with my husband while the baby sleeps. This camera adds the security of being able to see my baby in his co-sleeper for the few hours before we go up to bed, or while he naps. I have found it to have great range (we can be in the backyard, though the screen is hard to see outside and in sunlight), and literally no interference from our cell or cordless phones. The night vision is clear but the 'pan and zoom' don't actually pan the camera, but rather the digital range of what the image shows. I still love the feature though, zooming in is key for me. I have come to accept the few seconds it takes to view the image after you hear something and want to look. You can view for 30 seconds and then need to hit 'view' again to see. This feature is not a problem, though I wish I could view for longer.

My only complaint is that while the hand-held monitor has re-chargable batteries and can be disconnected often, the camera unit does not. We go through alot of batteries when it is unplugged, but honestly, this is not a real problem compared to how useful the product is.

Finally, my overall favorite feature is that it is a closed circuit digital camera, and no one can accidentally 'tune' into our channel like other monitors. That was most important, and we are very pleased. We actually bought a second so we can have two cameras in different rooms so we don't have to move them all the time when our baby falls asleep in different places.

Awesome, just awesome! Easy to use.
Ordered this yesterday at about 8pm and it was delivered today at 4pm. All you do is add in the rechargeable batteries, plug the unit in and the two 'see' each-other instantly. This this is idiot proof.

I have signal issues in my house as the baby's room is in the interior, rear of the house and a concrete wall divides her part of the house and the master bedroom. Have tried other monitors - had the Sony multi-channel thing and it had horrible coverage, beeped all the time. This monitor works flawlessly and the video is just too cool to have.

The picture is great and the monitor is small enough that I can have it on my belt while I do yard work and still have good signal. This is one 'must have' for new parents although this is my second child. The Sony was $140 years ago so this one at $203 is a deal.

Awesome monitor!
This monitor rocks! We live in a 4 story townhouse and this is the first monitor to work with no static! There are four noise settings and if you chose Level 1-3, there is absolutely NO static at all. Incredible! We have tried four other monitors and this is by far the best monitor out there!

Two cons: 1) The green light on the baby unit blinks constantly. I called the company and there is nothing I can do. It has to blink for the night vision camera to work. That's fine...I am sure my daughter will get used to it. In fact, it does not bother her at all right now, since the camera is on a table next to her. 2) It does affect the connection to our wireless router about 20% of the time. No problem though...I turn off the monitor, connect to the internet, then turn the monitor back on.

Even with the two cons, this is the BEST monitor. We love not having to listen to static or to rearrange the monitor to just the right position to avoid interference!

Love it
Love this product. By far superior to an audio monitor. Its great not having to get out of bed to check on the little one and the quality of it is great. The picture is good and audio/video options are awesome. Only thing is that the light on the camera unit flashes and makes my little girl suspiscious! Also, it does interfere with our internet, but if you put the unit on the other side of the room it works fine.

Way beyond expectations!
I was hesitant to buy this monitor because of the price and seeing the poor quality / performance of friends video baby monitors. We've been pleasantly surprised at how well this system works. The camera looks great during the day in color and at night in the dark the picture is crisp and clear. The sound quality is good and is easy to see what is going on and if you need to go and check on the baby. There is zero static / interference...zero it just works! In fact we are able to go over to the neighbors house 3 doors down and take the monitor and be aware of any sound or movement. Battery life is good and it just takes rechargeable AA so is cheap and easy to add more / replace batteries.

Excellent Monitor, Destroys the Graco iMonitor
I purchased the Safety 1st High-Def Digital Video Monitor 08280 a few months ago for use with my newborn. I already had the Graco Digital iMonitor and had been using it for 1 1/2 years with my son, and was desperate for something better.

Due to the layout of my home, without a monitor, I cannot hear a crying child unless that child is in full-blown, screaming hysteria (especially if I am alseep myself). For each of my kids, I wanted video and audio monitoring in order to give myself the greatest peace of mind possible. I prefer digital technology to 900 MHz for safety reasons (don't want someone else looking into my kids' rooms or listening to the happenings inside my home).

First, my complaints with the iMonitor. The parental unit shuts itself off with no warning of any kind and at any given time. At first I thought that perhaps the battery was dying, but as it turns out, the battery beeps loudly when it is running low, so that wasn't it. I wondered if it had to do with having the monitor open or folded closed, but that wasn't it. Graco's customer service was very unhelpful when I repeatedly called to ask for troubleshooting assistance. They essentially denied that I was having this problem. The monitor experiences frequent interference resulting in severe tiling of the image, so that you cannot see the child at all. The monitor also tends to show the child for a few seconds or minutes, then the screen goes blue and a message comes up that reads, "initializing video..." No video or audio monitoring is available during the initialization process. Since this process can take 10 seconds for every 1 second of actual imaging, the monitor can be completely useless for extended periods of time. It also loses its connection to the nursery unit and must paired-up again. This also happens for no apparent reason, and without warning. Knowing that the iMonitor has these problems has caused me to sleep very lightly, even after my son started sleeping through the night. I frequently jerk myself awake to check to see if the monitor is still on, and if so, to make sure that the monitor is working properly. I paid $200 including shipping/tax for the iMonitor.

Now the Safety 1st monitor. I paid $192 including shipping/tax for this monitor in July, a few months after my daughter's arrival. I love this unit and have only 2 minor complaints, so those complaints before the long list of pros. The unit interferes with my wi-fi. If I use my laptop within a few feet of the monitor, I lose my wireless connection. I have found that my laptop must be at least 10 feet away from the monitor to keep my wireless connection. This is somewhat annoying, but I can live with setting the monitor down 10 feet away from my computer workspace, confident that I can hear my child through the monitor at that distance, even if I can't see her. Also, the light on the nursery unit is a large light in comparison to the light on the iMonitor. The light flashes and is very bright. Once my child is old enough to be annoyed by the light, I'll have to do something about it, but right now she is oblivious to the light.

This monitor is amazing. The monitor has a crystal-clear image, and has never tiled on me. The monitor nevers shuts itself off (unless the batteries die), and has never yet lost its connection to the nursery unit. The monitor can be set so that the image is always on (even when using battery power, which the iMonitor does not offer), or to remain on for a set number of seconds, up to 25 seconds. When using this option, the monitor can be set to bring the image on if the child is making noise (parent sets the noise-level sensitivity). If the child is not making any sounds, but you want to look in anyway, a push of the Video button on the front of the monitor immediately brings up the video of the child. The Safety 1st is very sensitive to sounds, so I rate the audio component as superior also, even when using it on its lowest setting. The monitor displays a color image when there is adequate light in the room, and then displays a night vision image when the room is dark. Both types of imaging offer superior quality video.

I have been using the Safety 1st monitor and the Graco iMonitor side-by-side for a few months and have noticed that when the two monitors are near each other, the Graco iMonitor absolutely cannot get past the "initializing video" stage, which means that it does not work at all. Even in close proximity to the the iMonitor, the image on the Safety 1st monitor has never so much as flickered. The Safety 1st is rock solid.

I have just ordered a second Safety 1st to replace the Graco iMonitor in my son's room. This time, the best price I could find was $230 including shipping/tax.

Don't like it at all
I don't know if I received a factory reject, or if the product is just not up to my standards. The picture color is so faded that it almost looks like black and white. Large bright red toys appear to be an extremely faded pink, and no other color is visible at all. The night vision looks like the static you would see on an old TV that has lost most of its signal. When trying to look at the screen when outside in sunlight, the screen is completely black, and nothing can be seen at all, making it nothing but an audio monitor when the receiver is outside. If the receiver is set for the video picture to remain on continuously, the battery lasts for less than 10 minutes. The audio gives a constant hiss, even when there is no sound in the room where the camera is, and when the monitor is set to the lowest volume possible. I was so unhappy that I returned the product. Although the zoom and scan features work well on this product, I would look for those features in a different product altogether.

WAY TOO LONG TO SHIIP
This item took almost two weeks to ship to my home - ! Not worth it, I would have just gone to Babies R Us and picked it up. Not sure about the product because it STILL has not arrived.

Well worth the high ticket price.
Although this particular model comes at a comparably hefty ticket price, it's well worth the investment for the quality you receive. Setting up the monitor and handset is a breeze even if you need to move the unit to another location in the house. The camera is impressively versatile and the zoom is pretty good. The only minor complaints I have about the product are 1) there's no battery life indicator on the parent handset and 2) night vision sometimes comes in a little fuzzy. Overall, however, it's a fantastic product; great for home use and travel.
